I do not recommend staying here. I stayed at the Blue Stem Lodge in mid October. I didn’t expect much given the price and reviews but expected a clean comfortable place to sleep.
When I got to my room about 1pm I turned on the air conditioner since the room was hot (it was about 85 degrees that day). A few hours later I came back and noticed the air coming out wasn’t cool at all and the room was even hotter than before. It was hotter inside the room than outside with the clock inside saying 91 degrees. I go to the office and ask if the air is working and she assured me she had turned it on that morning. A few hours later it had not started working and I go back to the office and she told me the boiler had been broke for a while and the air only worked from the office down the other direction. She said it matter of fact with no apology or offer to give me a room where it was working ( their was open room on that side). This seems like something she should have told me when I booked. The next day I checked out early telling her I could not spend another night in a 90 degree room and she didn’t even bother to refund the extra night I had...
Read moreI was overcharged, and the experience here was overall pretty terrible. Rhonda is rude, and she also smokes in the room connected to the office, which is illegal because it shares air with a public space. I could barely breathe, and I had to make my daughter wait outside. I don't care whether or not she got herself grandfathered into that law, it's the height of hubris for her to think that her own desire to smoke is more important than her interactions with the public, and it's the height of stupidity and selfishness for her to think it's okay to shove her personal, damaging addiction into anyone else's lungs. The first room we were given had someone else's stuff in it, so we had to get another room. Imagine if my daughter had entered that room first (she wanted to). If the guy was present and indecent, that would have been unforgivable and would have resulted in legal action. This is not a lodge, it's a seedy, dirty motel with a new coat of paint. I will never set...
Read moreIt could be much better with two improvements. One would be simple and the other costly.||||The Internet was far less than acceptable. It sort of worked at a slow speed. If you don't remember dial-up modem speeds, you won't understand. This would be an easy and inexpensive fix.||||The other problem was with the AC. I checked in at 9 PM and it wasn't until 2 AM that my room was cool enough for comfortable sleeping. Unfortunately it was a very hot day followed by a hot night, so it put maximum strain on the system. Most nights, this would be far less of a problem. This is an old building with old AC units. Upgrading would be expensive and not easy.||||Otherwise, everything was fine. My room was roomy and clean. It had a refrigerator and microwave that both worked very well.||||The price was very reasonable. I would stay again but if it was a hot night after a hot day would call ahead an ask them to turn the AC unit...
