I was at site E-12, which is at the back corner of the campground and right up next to the road and the adventure park next door. As we arrived we were genuinely shocked at how crowded this place was. And I don't mean necessarily by the amount of people there, but by how tiny these sites can be and how packed in everyone was. Trust me when I say if you're looking to get away from people then this is not the place. We were pleasantly surprised to see that our site was actually far larger than many others, though being next to the road meant we had light shining at us pretty consistently. I feel like the only way you can have a somewhat peaceful experience camping here unless you were in our spot is if you come in an RV or trailer and can buffer out some of the sound of your neighbors nearby.
It was so windy. Consistently throughout the days we had gusts up to 35 mph, and our poor tent kept getting sand and dust inside of it no matter what we tried. It just went under the exterior tarp and into the mesh in our tent. This made it really difficult to cook with since there were so many particles blowing through the campsites and we had to set up a lot of containers around our Coleman stove to protect the flames and protect the food.
There were many families in this campground and there were a lot of kids even at 11:00 at night screaming and running around so I'm not sure if there was no security patrolling or what the situation was. Also some very large sounding person walked through our campsite around 12:30 in the morning and actually left handprints on our vehicle, filled with dirt, and a bunch of alarms went off during the night which makes me think that somebody was trying to break in or if nothing else cause mayhem with the alarms going off in the middle of the night. I yelled out into the night to get out of our campsite and the person didn't acknowledge me, and kept walking around. It was a bit scary.
If you want to stay at this campground I highly recommend our site, one of the only large ones in the entire area but remember you are next to the road. I don't plan on coming back here again.
As a side note though I will say that when we checked in they were all very friendly. A definite shout...
Read moreI've been to hundreds of campgrounds around the country. I've been camping 80 percent of my life. year round with bare essentials in established and primitive places.
I would suggest this to a retired traveling couple In a small camper or a hiker/biker
this is NOT for large groups or families.
This place is very pretty but isn't worth 30.00 in my opinion.
the biggest issue is that they require personal information and do not give you a privacy policy.
phone numbers, addresses and emails should NOT be required as you are NOT a government official and do NOT need it.
but, I just gave them fake information. sell THAT.
ok, moving on ...
The hosts are VERY nice and accommodating and I give them 5 stars.
the sites are on top of one another is the second big issue. I had people 20 feet from me.
when you are young and like to drink beers by the fire and not feel like you are going to wake Grandma it's a good time.
nope... I almost didn't want to move. the people next to me were complaining about some guy 90 feet away barely playing his acoustic guitar and they didn't say hello or good morning.
there are porta potties close enough to camp to be accessible but not so close as to be smelly or gross. they were clean.
the grounds, fire pits and picnic tables were well maintained and clean.
cell reception with Verizon is amazing if you live staring into your phone. well over 100mpbs.
I feel like 30.00 is a tad steep but would gladly pay 20 and stay...
Read moreThis place is wonderful! You have your choice of ways to stay. You can camp with tents or RV's, or stay in the hotel, cabins, A-frames, or yurts! The staff are very nice and accommodating. There's a bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets, and the lodge (reception area) is nice and cozy. There are a lot of activities as well - darts, billiards, ping pong, and there is a playground for the little ones. There are equipment rentals too - bikes, kayaks, and inner tubes for winter fun! During our stay they hosted a beer and wine tasting with local breweries that was fabulous. There are 2 campgrounds at Ft. Tuthill, 1 for civilians and 1 for military (active duty, and retired/Veterans) as long as you have a military ID. This review is for the military side. I drove through the other park and it is a basic campground w/o showers or flush toilets. It was, however, very clean and has a camp host and sites for tents and Tv's. The park itself, hosts a myriad of activities. During our stay, there was a Rodeo, 2 high profile concerts at the Pepsi Amphitheater, Highland Games, an Art Walk, and the County Fair! The park is located near Wal-Mart, and Basha's for those necessities you run out of, and very close to NAU and downtown for day excursions. Come stay for awhile... You...
