Stayed here one night and enjoyed the stay once we settled into our room. We stayed in the Rock Room, and it was spacious and clean, with nice amenities including coffee, muffins, water bottles, and nice bathrobes. The property was nice and laid out like a bed and breakfast. We had beautiful Mountain views from our window.
The lodge sends over the external door code and a code to unlock your room earlier in the day of your stay. We arrived at around 9pm and found the actual check-in process to be messy and frustrating (which is why I’m subtracting 1 star, which I think is very generous given the frustrating experience we had on arrival); it took us about 20 mins to actually find and get into our room, which left us with a poor first impression.
Here are a few pieces of constructive feedback: Location instruction: on arrival we didn’t know how to get to the lodge, and Google Maps brought us to the Slackwater Inn (a motel off the highway nearby the lodge), but there was no road connecting to the lodge. We tried driving around the motel, trying different roundabout roads, and after 15 mins eventually had to call the innkeeper who advised us that we were to drive into the Adventure Company parking lot, on the side of which is a little road leading to the lodge. This apparently was listed in the email we received on booking, but could have been included in the text sent earlier in the day
Check-in instructions: We were told our room (the “Rock Room”) was on the second floor. On arrival, we went to the second floor and just saw a room labeled “Columbine sitting room”, which we assumed was a different guest room. We went to the third floor, then around the building to the first floor, figuring there must be another way to access it, but couldn’t find our room. A woman eating in the kitchen on the first floor said a similar thing had happened to her on check-in yesterday, so I’m sure this isn’t a one-off. I again called the innkeeper who seemed annoyed and was abrupt; she instructed me that we needed to go through the Columbine Room to access our room, and hung up. I walked to the Columbine room, and it was locked. I tried the codes I had been provided (for both the external door and my room) and neither worked to open it. I again called the innkeeper, and this time she didn’t pick up. I tried texting, calling again, waited for about ten minutes before she finally responded with multiple codes, one of which worked. Had this taken a few more minutes we would have left to find another place to sleep. For self-check in, better instruction absolutely needs to be included; had we arrived later and the innkeeper not been awake to respond, we would never have gotten to our room. Also, I understand it was somewhat late, but the annoyed attitude (given that the instructions on how to access the room was never provided) was not...
Read moreOur Hostess Brenda was great, very personable, super nice and helpful. I enjoyed our conversation while doing dishes left by some other couple.|The area is one we love and have visited many times through the past 15 years, we average every 6 months.|We were under the impression the room (Arkansas) we had was great for handicapped folks. The room is ADA Accessible, though the rocker is rickety and the desk chair on the verge of collapse.|What we found was only one rail in the shower and one by the commode, which is loose and can not be used, afraid of falling. Shower head faced up, no strength or height to twist it around and no seat, I'm in a wheelchair. The beautiful sink is way to tall, comes to my chin many families with small children would need a step stool.|The walk way to get to the building is horrible. I had to walk my wheelchair on it's large back wheels, since the front casters (wheels) got stuck, in the gravel and then the cemented area is uneven and I almost tipped over. The walker used bogged down and had to be somewhat lifted. The peep hole was so high neither of us could see out of it standing. We just wish the parking lot and walkways that are not ADA assessible or near being compliant, were either cemented or hardened with lime. This would not work for a quadriplegic as is since they are not able to navigate the gravel and concrete. My adult daughter will not be able to stay with us due to the issues, she is a quadriplegic, and can not stand at all.|When the van lights were left on the maintenance gentleman was able to jump start it and get us on our way. WE were so very grateful to...
Read moreJust stayed here to have a cute night in BV on the way to CB. My mom and I were looking forward to riverside views and the hot tub, both of which were not available.
The lodge itself is a few miles from the actual downtown historic area of Buena Vista and is not walkable from the lodge, as it looks to be on Apple Maps. We had a hard time finding the place as the address took us to a totally different area. The person who directed us to the lodge was very patient with us at least on the phone but there should be better directions in the text to ensure people don't get lost.
Johnson Village wasn't anything to write home about - very commercial area - and the lodge is situated next to a gas station coffee shop and what appears to be an RV park for the adventure company.
The room was comfortable enough, but AC cannot be controlled or adjusted so hopefully you're not hanging out in the room during the day time! Windows open at night kept us cool, but our room - the Yale room - was right next to a common area balcony and while I was reading in bed, I made unfortunate eye contact with another guest hanging out on a bench right next to our window LOL. Don't think he expected us to be...
