We stayed here for a week with family as a time-share swap. While we had an excellent time, it was despite, not because of, the accommodations
the doors & locks are so funky. We stayed in a 2 room suite. We were issued 4 key cards, 2 for each door (bedroom and living area). In addition there were 2 patio doors to the parking lot and a door between the rooms. First, if you use the wrong key in the hallway doors it deactivates them all. Sometimes the keys randomly don't work. Since we were at the end of the hall we several times had to trek down to the front desk to get keys fixed. Once was at 10;30 at night, after the maintenence guy had left and the manager hadn't arrived. An hour later, with two tired babies, we finally got in. The patio doors lock automatically and have security bolts. The front doors have deadbolts that automatically open when you push the lever handle from the inside, but not the slide locks or anything so my toddler could let himself out into the hall at will. There went my hopes of having him sleep in one room while we slept in the other. So there were 4 of us in one bed. Tight squeeze. Also because the 2 room suite is 2 adjoining rooms that were converted, the door between them is actually the 2 one-way doors with a handle only on one side. So my toddler could lock himself in one room. It was really annoying. Oh and about half of the external doors to the hallways that were supposed to be key card entry only were either just unlocked or propped open by the full-time residents who would go out to smoke and walk their dogs (often a smoky smell wafted into the room)
the place was really run down. Stained and frayed carpet throughout. The knives were very dull in the kitchenette. The Jacuzzi tub jets didn't work. The ice machine in our hall was broken. The window shades were broken. The comforter on the bed was really dated and tacky. The mirrored sliding closet door in the bedroom was off the track. One of the hot tubs in the pool area was closed. Lots of smokers around
the staff was pretty friendly but not very knowledgeable about things to do in the area or what their amenities were. Was told there was a free chair lift nearby, but they didn't know the hours. Went up there and it was closed. Called the resort ahead of time to find out about our room layout and it was described very differently than the actual room, if I'd known better I would have been more prepared to travel with the kids. The whole key card fiasco...
we were there in the summer. There is no air conditioning. They provide fans, but the temperature outside fluctuated from the 40s to 80s, so the temperature in the room fluctuated accordingly. So we were constantly fidgeting with opening windows, or putting the heat on, trying to keep the baby from sticking his fingers in the box fan or out of the baseboard heater that had a wire closet shelf fashioned in to a grate over it.
the staff at the on-site restaurant was great, but the actual place looked really sad. Ok little salad bar. The on-site general store/gift shop and salon were always closed. Maybe because it was summer, off -season?
The resort was built in the late 70s/early 80s and I don't think it's been renovated since. I feel terrible writing a negative review since my in-laws treated us to this awesome family vacation. But it was just so meh, I have to warn others.
Oh and there are two giant taxidermy bears in the lobby that have absolutely nothing to do with Colorado. So random. My son insisted on bringing a spoon to bonk them when we...
Read moreWe had a pretty bad experience this weekend from the minute we showed up at Inn at Silver Creek. First of all, we showed up at 345pm and they said "check in is at 4pm but we'll probably be quite a bit later than that before we can get you a room, as it's our busy season. Okay, so I gave the guy at the front desk my number so he could call us when our room was ready. He said probably 415. We went and got a beer in the bar and waited around until close to 5pm before finally going to the front desk and they said "sure, your room is ready." No call or anything - just poor attention to detail/service.
Next we got an incorrect room. We booked the room through Expedia and it said specifically that we were supposed to have a fireplace in the room - that's the reason why we chose this place. We got to the room - key didn't work and once we got a key that worked there was no fireplace in the room. Front desk said at the rate we paid there was no fireplace offered, so we called Expedia and they said we should have gotten a fireplace as the reservation specifically noted "fireplace in room." We had Expedia call the front desk to explain the situation and two separate people at front desk just said "sorry, hotel policy says that the rate they paid doesn't warrant a fireplace." At least Expedia gave us a $50 voucher but the hotel did nothing. All the hotel had to do was give us a fireplace room and that would have solved the whole thing.
We then tried to go to the pool the next morning at 10am, when it was supposed to open, and the front desk lady said the maintenance guy had to uncover the pool (it was cold and snowing outside). We said okay and went down there, waited for 15 minutes, and the guy finally uncovered the pool but we couldn't get out there as we needed a special "athletic center key" to use the pool. We didn't have this key so we said forget it and went back to the front desk to check in our towels and leave the place. The front desk lady said "yeah, you should have received the athletic center key upon check in." But we never got anything like that. She said, "if you had read the pool sheet that you should have received, it would have told you that you need the athletic key...so...yeah."
Now, we're not people that normally complain or write bad reviews, but this place employs multiple people that seem to have little regard for actually helping a customer out. They simply want to get you out of their face as quickly as possible and won't listen to you or go beyond the packaged phrase of "our policy is...." Communication is poor and it creates a very mediocre experience overall.
The rooms were okay but needed updating. Bath tub/shower had crusty and cracked caulk and our entire floor smelled like pee the last morning. Aside from all of this, the resort is huge and could really be a cool spot if the employees and managers would simply put forth a little effort and solve customer issues on the spot. The lackluster attempt at service means we'll never return here on future trips to the...
Read moreCouldn't have picked a better place to stay at for our first trip to the rockies in Colorado. Brett, the owner was amazing from the beginning. We booked our reservation about 5 or 6 months ahead of time, from there he made sure all of our questions were answered in detail and helped us find spots to explore. Being a photographer my questions gravitated around lookout spots and scenery and he provided me with many locations to scout out. He was also able to setup an easy payment method since our group split the cost between the members. I stayed in contact through email and he replied back promptly within 24 hours every time. I also shipped a large set of cameras and lenses to reduce the cost of airline baggage and the staff there kept everything safe until I arrived. The staff during the stay was also very helpful and easy to work with. We arrived around 5 or 6 am and was greeted with smiles all around. The only issue we had was a non working key card but the staff provided us with extras and then came to our room to make sure the lock was working right. Turned out someone in our group had locked the door from the inside. Thank fully we had two doors to use.
The room(s) themselves were furnished very nicely. There was a nice little fireplace to use that kept all but one of our members warm (the one was sick so that doesn't count). The little balcony wasn't the greatest view for us since it was just a parking lot, but it was nice enough for us to relax in during the morning before we left to go explore. The kitchen amenities and appliances were perfect and made our trip that much more affordable since we didn't have to rely on outside food all the time. Every thing worked perfectly and the kitchen was stocked with all the pots, pans, cups, plates, bowls, knifes, forks, spoons, and paper towels we needed.
There was also a nice entertainment system, if you have HDMI devices they can be plugged right into the TV. If you have a newer mac or ultrabook make sure to bring a Display Port to HDMI adapter. The small receiver and sound system provided us with music, though bring your own AUX or 3.5mm to stereo RCA cable. Not sure about the other rooms but this one's receiver didn't have HDMI but just having the receiver was a huge plus.
The two rooms had three beds, one was setup as a bed room the other two were hidden. The couch/bed was especially hidden considering the first day we didn't even realize it was there in the couch.
Overall it was a great place to stay and really helped us get accustomed to the new place we were in. Felt like we were home the whole time except for the 9,000 ft difference in elevation and 60 degree difference in...
