The Country Inn exceeded our expectations! We needed nothing more than a room, 2 beds, heat, and a shower.... for as little $$$ as possible. We were able to book a last-minute room in the motel section. We were given simple instructions for a late arrival since the office was already closed. For $75 per night, we really didn't expect much, but we were really impressed as soon as we opened the door. The room temp was perfect, everything was clean, no bugs, no stains, comfortable beds, fresh linens, the shower was not small at all as noted in other reviews. There was also a small fridge, freezer and microwave in the room. Is this a 5-star hotel? Of course not. But everything about our stay was perfect, and they take care of their customers! We will definitely stay here again next time we visit Fredericksburg.

We were excited to stay here based on previous reviews saying it was great. However, we had quite the opposite experience. Upon getting the key to the room we went to open our door and the door handle was broken. Resulting in the door only being shut when locked with the deadbolt. In addition, the room smelt terrible, was hot, and dirty. The place needs some serious renovation in order to meet the reviews left originally. Despite the unfortunate experience with the room, the lady at counter was very helpful and polite. The manager however was very difficult to deal with and kept changing the amount that she would be charging us. The location is not within walking distance of Main Street so if you’re looking to be close this is not the location for you.

I returned home today wanting to post while my experience is fresh. First, I want to say that the outdoor environment is great. There are elk, Axis deer and free range cows whom you may see off your porch. The scenery is wonderful. The staff at the Inn who are your contact are very accommodating. This isn't the cottages as you check-in to the Inn first, pay and pickup your key. Please be informed of the cancellation policy beforehand. I wan't completely aware, nor had I rec'd my confirmation email with considerable information. They recorded wrong email address. Once corrected, I was taken back at their policy and request that you "have to honor" your commitment if 10 days or less out unless they can rebook. Chances are slim. Even then, a fee is kept. We stayed in cabin 5 which is part of the original Itz family homestead house. It is now #3,4,5 cottages. #5 biggest of all. A plaque inside shows the date 1891. When researched I read the Itz family settled in 1856. They were one of the original 120 German families promised 10 acres and a home in town if they came to settle. There is a treaty between a Baron and the Comanche Indians. If you look the name up locally, the Itz name has many companies. At one time, the place was called Palo Alto Creek Farm. One could rent the entire homestead. From my research it became something of a b&b of sorts. The pictures on this site show the interior which has NOT changed. I say this as the current owners are not named Itz, and must have purchased from the Itz family, or belong somewhere in the family tree. I believe they are new owners. We met a lady who stated she was one of the owners of 25 years, her son, too. The decor in cabin 5 was nice in it's day. The kitchen took me back to the 70's, as there haven't been updates. The oven amenity no longer has temperature numbers to determine temp, was filthy with considerable bacon grease pooled at bottom. I requested this be cleaned which was just wiped out. When I went to bake my pie, smoke bellowed from the oven that would have set off modern day smoke detectors. We opened 2 doors to vent the smoke along w/exhaust and let the oven burn off rest. The frig is a 70's color with broken light at top & loud. Ice maker is not hooked up, but ice maker across the way. I can't state enough how filthy the kitchen was. I found pieces of pots/pans, plates, glasses, flatware strewn in the many kitchen drawers. The dishwasher had caked dish soap at bottom and smelled. The coffee pot had sludge drip from it when I moved. We brought a Keurig and I was glad we had. Do not use coffeemaker. All the kitchen decor was filthy and had a dirty gummy film. I washed some things that were around food I prepared. The can opener was filthy.Toaster wasn't much better. I had to call the Inn to request a clean blanket for our bed. The bed.. I don't know what the person(s) who wrote about the comfort of their beds slept on, but ours was uncomfortable and older. There was a bed topper under our sheets to my surprise. The original leather couch, loveseat and chair are same when Itz family advertised their rental and possibly a hunting cabin, prior. Heaven's nows how long ago this was. The carpet must be from this same time frame as old, ratty and dirty. The loveseat has a large tear and the chair has a well worn area where one places their head. The couch in our bedroom was also torn on both corners. Nothing looked like it had been dusted as dust caked on. The owners need to fire and hire new help. This got to me as not an isolated incident. The bedlamp was made with antlers that again had the gummy dusty film. Sad as this was nice in it's day. Don't rent cabins 1,2,3,4,6. Trust me. New cabins look clean and bigger. #1 has massive ram's head in tiny room. Many items broken. #6 from family making whiskey and wine in steep cellar. No room. #5 biggest. Russell, Mene Remington statues awesome & from Itz family. Jacuzzi worked near 1&2 only. OWNERS: great place that can be greatly improved on. Pls put $ & time in #5 & #1, that I saw. Hire new...

We stayed at the country inn to celebrate my birthday. To start off, the only complaint is that the showers are tiny.... With that out of the way, the beds were comfortable, it got cold at night in the middle of June, it was a quiet stay, parking wasn't a hassle. They were very friendly and accommodating at the front desk, such amazing customer service. Unfortunately on my trip,my husband left his ring on the sink just before we got the last of our luggage in the car, we didn't realize it was left behind until we got back to San Antonio. I called and they said they would put it on hold in the lost and found should we be able to make it back although we couldn't. They happened to be in San Antonio and offered to drop it off but I was asleep and missed the chance to get the ring back TWICE. I told the owners that its ok if we don't see the ring again as shipping it would be the cost of postage and I would rather him have a new ring that fits better. Although my husband is bummed because he loves the ring and would rather have me pry it off his cold dead fingers, we bought him a new one in place of the one that was "lost".

It's now August and I checked the mail and I see an envelope with "country inn & cottages" marked as the return address and my face lit up. I video called my husband who just went to break and I let him read the envelope and his reaction was priceless. I opened the mail and dug the ring out and showed it to him so he can see that it really was his ring and he was so happy. His reaction, his response, his smile made me happy. We are so thankful for how much the country inn has helped us get back my husbands ring. It's very inexpensive and very affordable, but it's the ring that he loved, the ring that he wants to keep forever because of the sentiment. Gas would've cost twice as much as the ring just to get it back when we would be able to get one that fits better rather than keep the one that slides right off his finger 😅 now he has a new ring that fits perfectly, and his original that we're going to keep locked away safely.

We appreciate everything the country inn has done to get the wedding ring back to my husband. Thank...

This review is for the motel, which is owned by the Country Inn and Cottages. They do not have a separate listing for the motel, but are responsible for the cleanliness and hygiene of all properties and this is something all future guests need to be aware of. We came to the Country Inn motel for a wedding. The entire facility was blocked for the wedding guests: the cottages and the motel. When we arrived, the room seemed clean enough. However, at 2am we were woken up by BUGS crawling all over us. To our horror, there were dozens of bed bugs covering our pillows. Absolutely disgusting. We immediately removed our belongings from the room and attempted to contact the manager. We called the emergency line and spoke to he gentleman on call who let us know that the office opened at 7am the next morning and we could come by to discuss the issue. The only issue: there were no vacancies at any other hotel in Fredericksburg that night. Thankfully, we were able to sleep on the floor of a friends room after driving around from hotel to hotel at 3am. The next morning, the person on duty looked at the room with us and determined that YES in fact, there were bed bugs...there was even one on the bed when he was there. Unbelievable. We were issued a refund, but we're still unable to find a vacancy in enough time for us to attend the wedding and check in. To my knowledge, management did not inform any other guests of the infestation. There is no way I believe that it is contained to just our room...room number 11 for reference. I am disgusted, disappointed, and outraged that what should have been a wonderful weekend has now turned into a bug hunt: I will have to throw out our clothes and luggage to avoid an infestation. Do...
