I have stayed at the Gerber Guest House several times starting in 1963 when our family relocated to Fremont as an engineering/research consolidation at Gerber Corporate Headquarters (I was 11 years old at the time). Around 2020 my wife and I hosted a mini-reunion here which was wonderful; management was different at the time (e.g. we saw management, visited with them, tours provided, etc). My latest visit was July 2024 and the house seems to be under new management (i.e. Jay & Mieka). I was approached at least 2 times to make this post... so here it is. The house and each room are now controlled by self-check-in keypads (no manager on site) which wasn't an issue since I knew the layout of the facility. People unfamiliar with the house may be disoriented. The Dan & Doty Room did not have A/C the first of two nights... pretty bad in early, humid July. The folks I emailed (Jay & Mieka) did fix the A/C problem the next day and communicated via email. I did not "see" any management during the 2 night stay. The washbasin drain in the Dan & Doty Room did not drain well (I doubt the founder of Gerber Products... his room... would have put up with this!). Also, the water from the same bathroom washbasin was terrible to the taste... I wonder if it was safe to drink. The room had not been made-up for the second night's stay (i.e. bed wasn't made, trash wasn't removed). There is no breakfast per se; there are make yourself instant oatmeal cups. Bottom line, the Gerber Guest House is a centrally located, historically unique place to stay in Fremont, Michigan. The management is new and certainly persistent in generating online comments... so these are my thoughts after the 2-night July stay. They would be wise to focus more on fixing the facility utilities, be onsite, conduct daily room care & maintenance, and less interested in generating...
Read moreStaying in Fremont to visit relatives, The Gerber Guesthouse was recommended to us. It has a history with the Gerber (Baby Foods) family and the house, built to look like two houses, is a perfect mid-Michigan family residence now being used as a guesthouse. The internals of the house have been kept in an interesting style, with period features and delightful, if squeaky, wooden floors. While our room was spacious, it could have done with desk and chair, or a table, but that's really only a suggestion, not a complaint. There are lots of common rooms on the first floor, and there are two family kitchens available for guests to use, as well as some breakfast snack foods, tea and coffee for overnight guests. The small yard and patio were equipped with a barbecue, a log stove and lighting for use at night, and the whole place would be great as a wedding venue or for a larger family gathering for something like a graduation party. We stayed two nights at the end of May 2024 and would happily go back again. The Gerber Guesthouse is highly...
Read moreI wasn't planning on leaving a review, but here it is since I was requested to leave a review multiple times. The check in was smooth and easy. Simple instructions for where to park, one code for the main door, one code for the room. Also, the house looked fantastic and has some cool history. However, when we got to the room there were a few main issues that led to my 2 out of 5 star review. First, the Wifi didn't work. It's possible that was user error, but I don't believe it was. Next, the bathroom sink wouldn't drain. It didn't drain for the entire night. We noticed this the first time we used it when we were washing out hands. So, we did not cause the clog. The fan only worked on the lowest setting. Any higher and it felt like it was going to fall from the ceiling. Then the AC didn't work, or at least it didn't work well enough. I struggle to sleep when it is too hot and we couldn't get it to go below 74 degrees F. Overall, the room just didn't function in many basic ways. I think the Arabella room may just...
