There are several hikes you can take to reach Mt LeConte Shelter or Lodge (Alum Cave, Boulevard, Bullhead Rainbow Falls, and Trillium Gap trails). I've made this hikes more times than I can remember, and have reached the summit via Alum Cave, and the Boulevard Trails. The iconic areas to see via the Alum Cave are Arch Rock, Inspiration Point, and Alum Cave Bluffs. Via the Boulevard trail make sure to take the side trail just past the junction with the Appalachian Trail right 0.4 miles to the top of cliffs at the Jumpoff, with striking views of Charlie’s Bunion and upper Greenbrier Cove. Read moreStayed at the shelter one night on a 3 day hike. The shelter was clean, well maintained with a privy and bear cables onsite. A great water source is located down the path at the Mt. LeConte Lodge area next to one of the big cabins. No view from the shelter and is right off the BLVD trail. The fireplace is bricked up with a strict "no fire" policy due to a previous fire. We’ve put up a tarp to make the 4th “wall”. The hanging system to keep our stuff away from bears was awesome! A short walk to Cliff tops for sunsets and a bit longer one to Myrtle Point for sunrises.
