I am currently many hundreds of miles into a Coast2Coast Walk Across America for Veterans Organizations. This is a 3 year project that has me and my two Labradors walking into many states and communities. It goes without saying that the hardships we endure while living mostly outdoors causes one to dream of the comforts of home. That dream came true while traveling recently on Route 66 near at the El Reno West KOA Kampground in Geary OK (Exit 108). After 15 exhausting miles on the Motherroad we were looking for anyplace to rest our heads. The KOA here came to our rescue!! Not only was the cabin immaculate and next to a gorgeous lake but we were offered any amenity to allow our stay to be more comfortable upon arrival. Lisa Dean was an absolute top notch ambassador for KOA. She was professional to a degree rarely seen. I have stayed in countless campgrounds through the years and this KOA is at the top of the list!! I rarely bother with reviews but felt compelled in this trip to write one. Immaculate and modern bathrooms!! Many nice items in the KOA Store and right n ext door is the famous Cherokee Trading Post/Restaurant/Truckstop. My Labs who are fairly picky about where we stay where thrilled. Cedar trees full of squirrels and the quiet calm and scenery really made them right at home. On this epic Journey we have stayed in Federal Parks, State Parks, and in so many states... but this KOA is our favorite place so far!! If your ready for a great nights rest or on vacation in Oklahoma stopping here is a gem. I have high standards on locations and this one met them all. The entire staff is just amazing and the WiFi works!! LOL. On our return journey across America we will definitely stay here. Thank You KOA we are now joining up as members and look forward to stopping at several more. They have big shoes to fill in comparison!! 2LabsandaHuman Coast2Coast Walk Across America for WWP

Better than expected for a KOA. We stayed in a cabin and had a great night. The beds were super comfortable, there was a screen door and a door stop to prevent any extra from coming in, and air conditioning. The restrooms were in great condition and well maintained as were the showers. Plus there was a great view from the cabin. Would definitely recommend a stay here!

This is by far the very best KOA we have ever stayed at! ....And we have stayed at a lot! Great clean larger sites. Awesome cabins right on a lake. Even a tiny home. And a game room. The best is a great size pool that is from 3 feet to 9 feet deep! Very friendly staff. We just stopped for a one night but wish we had time to stay longer.

We stayed here for one night while traveling west on I-40. The campground is right off of I-40 (so yeah, there’s road noise). To reach it, you need to drive through a parking lot containing a gas station, the Cherokee Trading Post souvenir shop, and the Cherokee restaurant. Arrows painted on the asphalt guide you to the entrance road, which goes by a fenced enclosure containing a couple of bison, and then past the two KOA dog parks before you end up turning left to pull up to the office.

All of the full hookup pull-through sites are located in two rows in front of the office. All of them have asphalt pads and narrow grass lawns with a picnic table. There’s not a lot of space between sites: we parked on the left side of our site, and when another RV ended up parked on that side, our RVs were aligned such that they only had about 9 inches of space between the end of their steps and one of our slides. We had a few sewer connection options at our site (69), but the tops were all broken: we ended up just sticking the elbow at the end of our hose into the hole, which worked okay. The power and water hookups were at the front of the site. These pull-through sites are level and fully open to the sky: some of the W/E pull-through and back-in sites located along the other roads in the park looked like they got some shade from nearby trees, but I didn’t have time to check them out.

There are plenty of grass areas to walk dogs, but some of them have burrs, so for us it was simpler to just walk the gravel path to the dog parks, which seemed to be burr-free. Both dog runs, which share a fence line, have airlock-style gates and are lit by overhead lights at night. Both also have shaded park bench seating for the humans and a decent view of the bison enclosure.

In terms of cell service, the Verizon signal was decent but the network was congested: the download speed never got above 0.4 Mbps during the afternoon and evening (on a Friday). The next morning, before 6am, I saw speeds of 14Mbps down and 9 up with my hotspot with MIMO antenna. The best speed I got on my AT&T smartphone during the day Friday was 17Mbps down and 3 up. I did try the campground Wifi: it was better than the Friday Verizon connection, but not by much.

We were too tired to make our way to the Cherokee restaurant, but if we had, we could have showed them our KOA receipt to get 10% off our meal. Maybe the next time we’re passing...

The KOA itself is pretty nice. The cabins, back in sites, dog run and areas, and pond are all on the plus side. The RV pull throughs...are trash, and I mean terrible.

The pull throughs are far to close to one another, putting your darn near in the position to step on the neighbors sewer hose as you step out of your own rig. Our neighbor didn't wanna put the effort in screwing their hose elbow to the sewer flange, left it just freely laying and draining, with the sewer open. The sewer gas smell that smacked you was fabulous upon leaving our own rig, especially with the nice heat wave going on. The sites are far to narrow to have a table (there was no anyways) or do any sort of food prep. Not to mention the close vicinity of the sewer. The sites a pretty unlevel as well.

They do have multiple sewer hookups per site though. So if you have a rig that has multiple or different sewer connections, these make it a breeze.

With that being said, it would be a benefit to stagger the entry of each camper so that their respective sewers were on the same side. They have the room.

The dog runs were cool, decent sized, one for small dogs, and one for large. Lots of "goat heads" though (stickers). There are also plenty of grass areas that are open where they allow pups to go as well.

The kids area looked dope. I wish I was young again. That "pillow" thing looks like a load of fun. The area was really clean.

We didn't use any other facilities as we merely stayed the night. Overall, the grounds were clean and well kept. The staff during check in were nice.

The trading post was pretty cool and stocked with Knick knacks. The restaurant was just meh, good service though! The Bison were also pretty cool to check out.

I probably wouldn't stay here again, simply due to the tight spaces. Although, site #74 (I think) is a pull through, with a patio area, and fire pit with grill. Had we known it was available, we would have paid the extra. We basically paid 45 bucks to dump poo and have a/c. The heat and wind was pretty ruthless as well, and there is no shade for the pull throughs. The lake also had some "stank" to it, but gives cool scenery. Slight road noise with a/c on as well, but right of the I-40 (North or West bound side)

If you do stay, I would recommend the one pool through site with the patio, or the back in sites as they have some shade. The back ins do not have sewer, so keep...
