We were blessed to have attended this grand opening yesterday. It was an amazing place to visit. It seemed everywhere that we went, each room had something unique and interesting to offer. It is beautifully decorated and incorporates many period pieces into the fine decor of this establishment. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. They were all happy to share a part of the vast amount of historical information on their building, its owners and its great legacy. This building has served many purposes over the years, each having a local and sometimes national historical impact. Built in 1896, The Historic Boxwood Inn has been the centerpiece of the Lee Hall area for over a century. With guests like W. C. Fields, "Blackjack" Pershing, America's first four-star General, and many others you can become a part of the history. They now offer fine dining, wines, crafts, an outstandingly lovely bed and breakfast, as well as a fully catered venue for all your special events. I would highly encourage you to check out their website and come visit these wonderful people. You will no doubt be well satisfied by the fine attention they put into all that they do. They had guests when we visited, so we didn't get pictures of all of their historic rooms. Many are shown on their webpage which also shows their ample room for hosting many guests. Check them out. Come visit. You will be glad...
Read moreMildewy and moldy environment. Son could not sleep in the residence due the the mold and mildew smell and had to stay outside most of the time. Old chicken wing with ants on the pantry floor, "gunk" on the bottom of the refrigerator. Just to name a few items. The mold and mildew had a major negative impact on my wife's asthma to where it was hard for her to breath even with use of an inhaler through the night. We explained why we could not stay there after the first night and received an angry response from the owner even after being advised that the conditions of the residence were affecting both my wife and son's health. I rated the service as a "poor" because of the management response to the situation. The gentleman that was onsite was friendly and knowledgeable of the area. His actions was what kept the "Service" from being...
Read moreThe Boxwood Inn is one of the most interesting places in Newport News. The owners are so proud of the history of the inn. It has gone from originally being a private home to becoming a guest house, a post office, a train station, and now back to an inn and lovely restaurant. ||||All the rooms are newly renovated and each has a private bath.||||The Lunch Counter located in the Inn is amazing. Even though we arrived just as they were closing for the day, we were treated to tea and some wonderful desserts. The banana pudding is wonderful, and I don't even like banana pudding! Everything is made on site, and although they are only open for lunch, they do have special luncheons at various holidays (Easter etc). ||||Definitely a must...
