An amazing location with little else to like.
PROS:
The Inn is literally on the beach. You walk out of your room, down the stairs, and you're on the beach. Non of the other rental properties are that close, which makes enjoying the beach as easy as possible, especially if you have young children.
The efficiency rooms have a full kitchen, including stove, oven, silverware, fridge, and dinnerware.
There is free Wi-Fi that extends to the beach.
There is a parrot in the lobby.
There is a free breakfast everyday consisting of donuts, pastries, breakfast bars, muffins, juice, and coffee.
CONS:
None of the rooms have air conditioning. That's right, none. There is a ceiling fan, but if you'd like some fresh air you can either open the one window (in the bathroom), or keep the sliding glass door open that faces the ocean. The problem is that the sliding glass door opens to a narrow porch walkway that is shared by all the rooms on every floor, and its the most used stairwell for everyone to get down to the beach. As I write this review @ 9pm there is a person walking by my sliding glass door about once every 5 minutes.
There is not much sense of privacy. The rooms are on top and right next to each other, and with no air conditioning and the shared porch walkway, if you want to keep the sliding glass door open at night to get a breeze (you absolutely will in the summer) then you worry about the myriad of people that are always walking by going up and down the beach stairwell.
The ocean side porch stairwell has people constantly going up and down. At night it gets even worse because you not only hear them on the porch and stairwell, but you FEEL it too. Even after midnight on a weeknight we were woken up by people quite literally running up and down the stairs.
The rooms were outdated. Which, given the history of the inn, didn't add to it's charm. Instead it looked like the last time they were renevated were in the 90s. Wallpaper was separated at the seems, patched walls were glaringly noticeable, stains on the ceilings, previously repaired fiberglass tub areas were recracked, the carpet was old and made you want to keep your shoes on, the walls were thin, and the fixtures had obvious areas of rust.
WiFi was slow, and at most times unusable.
Beds were uncomfortable to say the least.
Ultimately, we were mostly unhappy with our stay at the Cape Ann Motor Inn. The great location wasn't enough to overlook the other flaws, especially as they were highlighted in the evening hours. The only thing I was happy with was that we only...
Read moreI would have loved to give a better review but based off of a recent visit I think I was kind. We have been here before and you can't beat the location and view which is why we came back. The rooms are definitely very outdated but functional. The problem we had was our room was not cleaned properly. One bed literally had a coffee lid under the blankets, along with hair and lord knows what these little red and black spots were. Our sliders had a nose print on it as someone had their faced pressed against the door. 🙄 Our larger mirror had hand prints on it as well. We did address the issue the following morning, in which they did offer to change the sheets which we didn't need done prior to leaving as we used the other bed. Was told management would know for our check out. At check management I think was there we did not get a discount or a reimbursement of any kind just a sorry we have had some issues with a cleaner and do you want a free mug. Seriously... a few years ago we stayed at a hotel in Syracuse NY and had to wait a hour for our room. They literally gave us a free stay for the inconvenience and it was actually clean. Definitely disappointed, at least offer a discount on a future stay as we said we would be willing to give another chance. Honestly if it weren't for the location and view we most likely would not go back again if we...
Read moreWhat a great experience staying at Cape Ann Motor Inn for three nights. A couple of my friends, my husband and I were talking how Covid has kept us in lockdown for far too long. We decided to each get a separate room and what a lovely time we had. We were able to social distance right in our own backyard which is the beach and the ocean!! It was not crowded, we were able to be and feel safe. we went for morning walks along the boardwalk social distancing, and lounged on their private beach.
An example of how hard the Inn management worked to prepare us for our visit during this pandemic.... When we first arrived we entered the office where they used all the necessary protocol to keep us feeling safe, masks, hands sanitizer, and plexiglass when reaching the front desk, etc. The staff and management were friendly and quite accommodating.
The rooms have been sanitized prior to our arrival and everything felt clean which took away any doubts for our safety and we had a...
