OK, this is Grand Isle, this is not one of the more fancier resort communities; just keep that fact in the back of your mind as you read this. First of all the owner, Mr. Pat is just as friendly and helpful as can be. Secondly the house is really cool, it really is like staying at your grandma's house. It is back in the oaks and so far from the main road (LA 1) that you can't hear a thing. You would think that you are way out in the country somewhere. But like most grandma's (at least mine) the house is not on the cutting edge with all the digital technology...there is no wifi, you have to pay by check or cash. Now there is satellite TV coming to you on an old CRT TV that lets you play both DVDs and VCRs (of which there is a whole box-full next to the TV for your viewing pleasure)! Be aware that the "breakfast" is only a basket of store-bought pastries but you have use of a full and well stocked kitchen and a grocery store is just around the corner so you can make yourself as big a breakfast (or any other meal) as you want. The screened-in front porch is lined with chairs and swings to enjoy the evening ocean breezes. I found everything in working order and did not have any issues like some of the previous reviewers did; the water was hot and the A/C was cold. All in all, I think it is worth the stop; it really is a cool house. Remember that you are in Grand Isle, so choices are limited. But knowing what is available on the island and what you awaits you at the Landry House, you should have a nice visit as long as you are in the proper...
Read moreWe stayed one night at Landry's so that we could visit Grand Isle State Park and to see the Gulf. Landry Bed & Breakfast is tucked away among old oaks and palm trees on a very lovingly kept oasis on the island. Pat Landry, the owner, lives on the property and the bed & breakfast is next door. It is a lovely house, built around 1931. the house is old and has survived many storms. There are three bedrooms, each with a queen bed. There is a pretty little porch and a comfortable living room. We had the house to ourselves. |The house had a very musty smell that may bother some people. The hot water was not working and Pat warned us about it. He offered to let us use the shower in his house. We were not offered a discount or refund and were quite unhappy about the lack of hot water. Also, the "breakfast" part of bed & breakfast left us disappointed. Breakfast was frozen buns left in the refrigerator in case we wanted to make them ourselves. There was a coffee maker and coffee available. There were packaged donuts. There is no homemade breakfast here. |The bed was comfortable but the lack of hot water was unacceptable. We probably would not visit...
Read moreWe were there just before Xmas and it was very quiet everywhere on the island. The house is old and has been through many a hurricane with damage still evident in some places. There are 3 bedrooms but two are only seperated by a folding closet type door. The heater is very noisy in one of the rooms and kept us up. As noted lack of hot water and working stove is not good. Breakfast is mostly stale or buns or donuts. Also, was surprise to be charged $40 more than the stated rate on the website. After, making my case about the price advertised Pat finally agreed to abide by the "old" price. We would not stay there again. We thought it would be a good deal for 3 bedroom, but you get what...
