Wingate by Wyndham Newell — Hotel in Grant District

We stayed here.in a king suite,.check in at 3, I arrived room was not ready until 420. Housekeepers called off. Short staff. I was patient as could be and understanding...I asked if I could get my hour back in the morning which should have been offered without asking. She agreed. Should have automatic door or offer to help when watching guests come in a lone and struggle with cart and 2 doors. I watched this happen, it wasnt just me. Key card deactivated everytime i left. And I didnt have it anywhere but my pocket, empty. Room was spacious, but Although the room was spacious, bed was comfy, but carpets are ripped. Just need some maintenance and updates, fridge was lopsided and when tried to open would pull completely out, so much dust and they had "just cleaned" around the TV already and stand.. pool area was nice, but freezing.... then breakfast...my biggest complaint.. on a Saturday... posted breakfast 6-10 we arrived down at 815. Biscuits were done for the morning but was gravy, eggs, potatoes, French toast sticks.. I thought maybe they are out, truck hadn't come, but a couple that had been there ,said it happened the previous morning, did a batch and said they werent making more. no biscuits. They did have sausage patties the previous day. We did not today. The breakfast host, brought out soggy French toast sticks and was noticeably upset when she saw the eggs were gone, brought a small amount of potatoes and wouldn't do more biscuits.. at 830?? When breakfast is until 10. I could understand past 930 MAYBE but if breakfast is until 10, have stuff until 10 and do not be upset that people are eating it. Very little in the bread and pastry shelves. The weekends you think would be fully stocked. Everyone in the breakfast area was annoyed and I watched from the pool area while my kids swam ,as more guests came and had the same opinion. I wouldn't be making such a long review had the breakfast host not been SO rude about everything. Openly rude, sighing heavy when she'd have to fill something. I know it's hard to find good staff, amd people can have bad days, But to hear it wasn't just today, nasty staff makes...

I do not recommend this hotel unless you call first and make sure everything is working! I booked this room on the 29. My kids wanted to go swimming. So I booked a room for me and my children. So they could go swimming. Before booking the room, I found this hotel. Rooms looked great! Said it had a pool, and the pool looked nice. So I booked it. Come in to check in on the 30th. My friend went and looked at the pool and there was a note on the door. That's when the front desk agent informed me that the pool was down due to the heater being broken. I already paid for the room, just for my kids to swim. And now they can't swim because the pool is out of order. We did not stay in the room that night. It's said there is no refunds. However in a situation like this where you're not told that something is broken and you can't use it so you didn't stay, then you should be refunded! The hotel doesn't want to refund me, it's bullshit and bad business. I booked through Expedia and they've been trying to contact the hotel for a refund but claim they can't get ahold of the hotel. Stayed here overnight while visiting attractions in the Northern part of West Virginia. Our room was clean and beds were comfortable . Bathroom was nice and shower stayed warm. The bathroom featured Dove soap products in pump bottles including ones in the shower. The breakfast featured numerous hot and cold items. Loved the omelets and sausage links. The staff at the desk including the manager{ he even greeted us for breakfast and made sure we had what we needed to eat} were pleasant and helpful. The hotel does have a fitness center and indoor pool. The only disappointment was the pool water was too cool { was told they recently added water }. |The hotel is conveniently located near the local attractions which were the Mountaineer Racetrack/ casino, The Worlds Largest Teapot and Homer Laughlin China Factory { Fiesta ware}. There is also a Dollar General next door. | Would gladly stay here again if in the area....
