This historic hotel is gorgeous. They did the restore right- preserving the history while updating to fit all modern needs.
20 rooms total with a mixture of king, queen, double queen, and suites. There are 2 handicap accessible rooms on the first floor. It's important to know there is no elevator here. The old staircase is beautifully restored and that takes you to the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms.
Each room has antique furniture along with; microwave, fridge, coffee maker, ceiling fan, TV, vanity area, iron, luggage rack, desk, leather chair, and local/historic art. Cool. The bedding is super comfy, as are the beds (which have new mattresses-not antiqueš). Toiletries provided. Shower/tub combo in the private baths.
My suggestion is that if you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs and a sleeping mask. Sound carries in the building. They do not have curtains (blinds instead) so it doesn't block all the light.
A nice continental breakfast is served in their community room on the first floor. They offer the most generous breakfast times I have ever encountered. 6-1030am. Wow! That is so smart. You get real utensils, cups, and plates, too. An upgraded continental selection in a beautiful setting.
There is also a full service bar, lounge area, and access to a restaurant next door. Outdoor patio seating shared with either a fireplace or fountain going depending on the season. The original flooring, woodwork, and phone booth are intact in the lobby! In my opinion- this would make a great wedding or reunion event space with all they have to offer. It was lovely just for a 3 night solo stay, too. I know they have hosted everything from business retreats to bus tours with great success. It is seriously a wonderful choice for so many different occasions or events or holidays.
It's a fantastic redevelopment. I have traveled extensively, and this hotel is just as nice as any in Europe, big U.S. cities, and VRBOs. Price is typically $110-$140 per night when all the taxes and fees are applied so it is fair pricing. I got in on a winter special and had a crazy low deal. You should ask about any specials when you reserve!
We used the Mary Wise room for our family Christmas and it was perfect. I do mean perfect. Only $135 to rent for most of a day. They have all the tables, chairs, linens, etc. Bathroom super close, bar super close, beautiful space.
Greenfield has a surprising amount of entertainment to offer. Plus the town is so quaint in general. All kinds of in and outdoor activities, several restaurants, movie theater, Warren Cultural Center, museums, shopping etc. The townspeople are incredibly welcoming. (Well except the older gentlemen gathered to have coffee the one morning- lol! They were...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot pleased. Stayed here in April. My boyfriend and I was excited to go visit my family in Greenfield and stay at this historic hotel. I decided to splurge and get the best room with a balcony. We called ahead and placed a room on hold. When we arrived the young front desk woman was lovely. She checked us in. I asked if we could pay on our way out and she stated I could. The following morning there was a knock on the door (We had a do not disturb sign up). I did not get out of bed right away.. 2 older women then began to enter my room. I hopped out of bed. They stated there was an issue with the payment. I let them know I was told I did not have to pay until leaving. They were rude and had an attitude when they told me my card did not work. They had a form with them; they copied a single number on my card wrong. I corrected their mistake and they thanked me. I then recieved an email stating I was charged for the room. I was none the least furious and appalled that i was charged 2 days before checking out. While returning to the hotel later that day we walked in on the ladies talking about me and my boyfriend. I was hurt. I stayed in the most expensive room for multiple days and this was the service and respect we got from the staff. We will not be staying here again. Next time we visit family we will need to stay in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stay at Hotel Greenfield every year we come to visit family -- the one time we didn't we got an AirBnB in Winterset, because the hotel was housing the Emergency Services and volunteers who were helping Greenfield after their devastating tornado. Anyway, they've done a great job renovating the hotel... it's got an old vibe, because it's an historic building and they've done a ton of work to revive it. The staff have always been friendly and accommodating to us, and their front desk also serves as a bar for folks catching up in the lobby. They offer basic breakfast items like bagels, cereal, and coffee, but across the Public Square is Moe's, which has great breakfasts and lunch items, and they're open very early. The lobby has books on the history of Greenfield and Adair County with an interesting collection of old Sidey Collection photographs. Despite the 90+ degree July weather, their air conditioning and in-room ceiling fans keep the rooms very cool. We'll definitely stay here for future trips...
