The Bunkhouse Motel, Guernsey, Wyoming, is a delightful, affordable, and comfortable prairie gem you must not pass up. I was traveling on the Oregon Trail, June 2025, and knew Guernsey, Wyoming, was centered on many historic sites on the Trail. I try to patronize America’s Ma and Pa motels and knew the Bunkhouse Motel is directly on the Trail and also on US Highway 26.. The motel surprised me as to its quality, affordability, and comfort. It also has a wonderful quirkiness about it too.| I have three important criteria of any lodging property, be it a 5-star international resort or a quaint Ma and Pa motel: 1. Safety, 2. Comfort, and 3. Value. | For safety, the Bunkhouse Motel is in the small rural town of Guernsey. Not a lot goes on here after 5 p.m. The quiet peaceful town lends itself to a comfortable place to stop. The one-story motel has external doors with cut-key locks. The inside of the door does not have a security chain system, but rather a deadbolt system. The solid entrance door shut and locked well. Inside, the sink and mirror are separated outside of the toilet and bathtub/shower. The bathtub/shower does not have grab bars, but is an easy step over and in. All appliances in the room worked and were in good condition. In short, I felt safe in the room.| For comfort, the bed. pillow, and bedding, were flawless. Slept well. Towels and washcloths were fresh, folded, and spotless. A quirk is a saddle stirrup is a towel holder. Nice touch. Lots of hot water too. The rooms have coffee makers. I did not use any available WiFi.| For value, I couldn’t beat the price: less than $100 a night as compared with higher lodging east.. Also the motel has a delightfully clean and inviting dining area for the delicious and hot complimentary breakfast. Home made cinnamon rolls and superb breakfast burritos. Plus freshly ground coffee. What a treat!| In short: the owners of the Bunkhouse Motel clearly take great pride in their property, and it shows. Please give it a look if you are in that part of Wyoming or on the Oregon Trail. I wish Trip Advisor would give a .5 rating too: such as 3.5, 4.5, etc. I could give the Bunkhouse Motel a 4.5 rating if I could. | One last thing: Say hello to “Garth” the...
Read moreMy husband and I enjoyed an overnight stay here this past September. The Bunkhouse Motel was full of "Old West Bunkhouse charm" - if a bunkhouse can be considered "charming"! Conveniently located on the Oregon Trail, less than a block from the North Platte River on US 26 in historic Guernsey, this small, rustic motel is an excellent place to "hang your hat", relax, and explore the beautiful, interesting area.||The Bunkhouse Motel is well maintained, and its owner is friendly and very accommodating. Our room was exceptionally clean, had ample storage and 21st Century comforts, including private bath/shower, mini-fridge & microwave, coffee maker, cable tv and free wi-fi. The motel's "cowboy" feel extended to our room's decor, with cedar cross-beamed ceilings, saddle stirrup towel holders, and hitching post clothes posts. No bedrolls here: the beds were very comfortable. The Bunkhouse is 100% smoke-free, and all rooms are on one-level with "at your door" parking. ||A delicious, full "cowboy breakfast" is served daily. We enjoyed homemade biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage, potatoes, and burrito fixin's, as well as yummy fresh cinnamon rolls. All is freshly prepared and available with juices, milk and coffee in the main office building, in a nice, separate breakfast room. ||The owner is very knowledgeable about the Guernsey area and Wyoming. We greatly appreciated visiting with him and learning more of the town's history. Guernsey State Park, Wyoming's largest, is within 5 minutes of the motel. Other places worth a visit are all within a few minutes from town: Oregon Trail/Guernsey Ruts; Register Cliff State Historic Site/ Pony Express Site; Fort Laramie National Historic Site; Hartville, oldest incorporated town in the state. For golfers, 9-hole Trail Rut Golf Course is just south of Guernsey, on the N. Platte River. ||We recommend The Bunkhouse in Guernsey, Wyoming to fellow travelers, and will stay here again when we return...
Read moreWe stayed here one night to break up a long drive. The accomodation and decor is a little dated and tired, and there was a bit of an old room smell, as other reviews have mentioned, but our room was clean, spacious and everything worked the way it should. It was comfortable and we slept very well. Our room had a coffee maker and a refrigerator, but no hairdryer.||The owner and his staff are very welcomimg, hospitable people, and a lot of effort clearly goes into the breakfast that is provided to guests at no extra charge. The coffee is good, and there is fruit and yoghurt, as you'd expect, but the owner also prepares, fresh each morning, a range of baked items. During our stay that included biscuits and gravy, breakfact burritos, cinammon bread, a baked apple slice and also a baked rhubard dish. These were really delicious and you feel like you need to try a little...
