El Rancho Motel — Hotel in Gurnee

UPDATE: KINDLY DISREGARD MY PERVOIUS FIVE STAR REVIEW IT WAS PREMATURE AND IS HIGHLY INACCURATE. If you are considering even a temporary stay at this slum hole PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE REVIEW BEFORE COMMITTING YOURSELF!! Myself and my husband were victims of a natural disaster in another state which cost us our home and everything we owned. When we got to Illinois we did not have a long-term local job history had 3 small dogs and difficulty finding an apt for these reasons. We answered a Craigslist ad for a studio apt located in Gurnee. Manager was very friendly when I first arrived. He showed me the room which is exactly what you get an unfurnished room and a tiny bathroom with a shower so small you can barely wash in it. Feeling pretty hopeless I gave the manager the first month's rent and a $300 non refundable security deposit for the dogs because of new carpet but the room was certainly not newly carpeted. We stayed in that specific room from February until the end of June. I did contact management in regards to numerous fang like spider bites i had received and he said he would contact an exterminator but no exterminator ever came. When a larger room became available we asked if we could move into that. We had agreed on a higher rent and the end June we relocated to the different room. Our old room was immediately occupied for 30 days by a man who ate from the dumpster. After he moved out it was occupied again immediately just in time for the bees to nest in a wall. Thousands of bees lived in the wall of our previous room all summer. The poor guy renting it was stung numerous times, told management, was promised an exterminator and no one ever came. He also pointed out to me his fang like spider bites Given the fact that maintenance and repairs and management's response to such issues repeatedly went unnoticed is one of the primary reasons that I left this establishment, I will get back to this issue but first let's talk about YOUR NEIGHBORS. The people that live in this place are drunks, pill poppers, pot smokers, child predators and registered sex offenders. THIS IS A FACT. During my stay there my room was robbed, things were frequently disappearing while i was at work, I was assaulted, my clothes were stolen from the laundry room, a man tried to hang himself and I had to call the police numerous times to file reports. Shortly after we relocated to our "upgraded room" we began smelling septic to the point that it was making us feel sick. Our toilet wouldn't flush nor did guy next door's. Everyone in the whole place was complaining about the smell and then finally when I started having feces come up in my bathtub a plumber was called. It was determined the pump was no good and would have to be replaced. The management tried to reach the maintenance man for several days. He finally came days later and they hired an electrician to replace the pump. Several other issues in regards to the plumbing came to light therefore it took a good week because the maintenance man was extremely inconsistent and came to work when he felt like with no concern as to whether or not the residents could use the toilet. Thankfully that issue was eventually resolved. We noticed rain coming in and damaging the walls in the new room. Heavy rains caused light fixtures to fill with water. Talk about fire hazzard. My next door neighbor also had reported issues. We were promised roof repairs. You guessed it. My ceiling caved in 3 weeks ago. Manager called maintenance. He never came. I got stuck cleaning up the mess of black mold and drywall. No offers of help from manager. It wasn't long before the roof was repaired but my celing is still not fixed three weeks later. I called management Wednesday night to inquire about the delay. He was not only rude but disrespectful and short. I paid my rent not only early but remained a month ahead, kept my area clean and was kind to everyone irregardless After that encounter I left immediately. Owner should be ashamed of himself....but then his reputation truly...
