We did the murder mystery and stayed in the Cora Diehl suite on 1/17/15. After reading all these reviews I was shocked to see the 3.2 overall review. The ones who complained must just like to complain!! I'm going to give my overall review but want to ask and answer a few questions first. Would I recommend this place to friends and family? Absolutely!! as a matter of fact I did recommend the Stone Lion Inn prior to even getting home. Would I do the murder mystery again? You bet your ass!!! I had a blast and had a part which made me nervous but once we checked in and got dressed I really enjoyed every single moment. No spoiler alert here!!!! Should you do the murder mystery and stay the night at the Inn? Of course you should!!! DON'T HALF ASS A GREAT TIME!!! Now for the overall review... This house is over 100 years old and the feeling once you're inside is something only you can experience for yourself. If you don't like going into older buildings or you think its going to be or should look like a brand new building then you just need to stay at home. ITS OVER 100 YEARS OLD!! When we received our parts and a small explanation of every character going to be there we were like holy crap I won't remember all of this information there's just no freaking way. So we tried to review on the drive there and was still like "how the hell am I going to remember everything".. then when we sat down for dinner the small talk was a little difficult because I just didn't remember everything. So I cheated and took my phone out and would review the names of everyone in the room. I still had issues with everyone but when we went to the living room and the mystery actually began I could look around and remember everyone and even remembered their parts. Don't ask me how I just remembered!!! The narrator was awesome she played a character and kept us on track and then would fill in just enough for us to stay on track. The overall murder mystery was so much fun I would go again next weekend just to have a different part. The only disappointment to me (not my wife) was the room we stayed in was (by reviews) one of the most ghostly active room at the stone lion inn. I have ghost hunting equipment and set it up in the room. However, I never had anything happen or did I see anything.. So we will try again on another trip and see if we can stir up some ghost. If you are thinking about going then just make plans and go!!!! Go out and find costumes from thrift stores or where ever else you can and try to play the parts.. Its worth the time and...
Read moreI am rating just the mystery dinner that the Stone Lion Inn does, since we did not spend the night. The mystery dinner is a very unique experience to have in the OKC area and overall very enjoyable. My husband and I went together. When we arrived, finding a parking spot was a little confusing, as there weren't many spots. (There were still several guests to come after us...I'm not sure where they parked. At one point an employee had to come and ask someone to move their car, so it is kind of annoying, but a small detail, to be sure.) When we entered the hotel, no one was there to greet us, we kind of walked around until we found a person to tell us what to do. We waited for other quests to arrive for a little bit and just walked around the rooms. We were able to look at some hotel rooms that weren't occupied and they seemed cozy. One issue we had is my husband went outside to get something and couldn't open the front door. It was jammed. Another man went to help from the inside and they couldn't get it open until after SEVERAL tries. I also got had problems opening the bathroom door. I used the bathroom twice (pregnant...) and both times it took me several minutes to open the door. It was kind of unsettling, so be careful shutting the doors... Anyways, the rest of the experience was good. The food was good. They served hors d'oeuvres before we ate (meatballs & crackers with cheese and little bites of pepperoni with cheese and olives. When we sat down for the meal, we started with a salad. The main dish was chicken with vegetables and rice. The dessert, cheesecake, was to be eaten as we gathered into the main living area to "read the will." The staff was very friendly and pleasant. We enjoyed the experience. It's more fun and enjoyable if you really get into your part and play along. One more caution, my husband and I don't drink and I personally find drunk people annoying...so by the end of the night, I was SO ready to be home. The guests who got really drunk were really spacey and made it hard to finish the "game". While my husband and I had a great time, we probably would have enjoyed ourselves better if we were able to go with a bigger group of our friends. So, that's another suggestion. But, it is fun. They do a great job putting...
Read moreLast Oct I tried to get in touch with someone from the Stone Lion Inn to schedule a murder mystery dinner for my girlfriend who was getting married and did not want a wild girls night out. Nobody got back in touch with me. Instead we went on a ghost tour in Eureka Springs. Then a group of friends purchased groupons later in the year for the dinner. I had left 2 messages over the course of 2 weeks to schedule our group. On the third week I got in touch with the owner/hostess who essentially said that was not true. We scheduled a date, and she proceeded to give me a list of what was allowed and not allowed. The way the conversation went I felt like a child being chided for something I had not done. I think she could tell b/c she warmed up a bit by the end of the conversation when I was starting to regret having purchased the tickets. Not every one in our party received their confirmation letters with arrival information, and we had to request those be sent. I know some previous reviewers had a problem with the hostess at the dinner. I do think that is apart of her character and was not offended at that but the way I was treated prior.
Then during the murder investigation my characters only clue lines were skipped. At the end she accused me in front of the group of not having read my characters' information before I came b/c she thought I answered a question incorrectly. I was again offended because that was not true. I double checked the information I had received, and she was actually wrong.
The positive points were that the food was good. Even though I personally ended up not being involved in the group interaction at the murder investigation, it was still entertaining to watch. My husband did not want to go. On the way home though he thanked me, and said he had a good time. Other people in our group were at times laughing so hard they were tearing up. I thought it was really fun dressing up in the period theme.
I think it is a unique experience that can be as fun as you or your group makes it. I have wanted to this for a long time and am glad we finally got to. I am not sure if I would do this again at the Stone Lion though. I think if you can actually get it scheduled and the logistics worked out with the staff and make it there, you'll have...
