If I could give it zero I would. We launched our own kayaks at the state park oened launching area. This Jersey Devil kayak and canoe rental vehicle pulls up. We had 21 kayaks to launch and we were hustling. The one guy was acting like he opened the ramp. Telling us to "hurry up. Get put of the way" and, "we are on a tight schedule" well his schedule is of no matter. We were moving and launching as quick as possible. He acted like we were ruining his day. But whatever and off went the group. The group has always finished at Sweetwater, loaded the boats and then ordered lunch & drinks. 21 people eating and drinking would easily top $1000 for the place. This year the guy at the end point proceeds to tell us its $10 bucks a canoe or kayak to end and pull out the boats. They didn't lift a finger and wanted $210 to pull out and wanted to charge us for parking! Never in the past were we charged. We ask to speak to a manager. He goes on about damage kayaks do..the ramp is concrete and its bulkheaded how are kayaks doing damage? He's talking about pricing and costs going up..what a joke..we asked about eating there and he acted like he couldn't care less. $20 was paid but the restaurant was not going to happen and it was 100% the fault of their policy...the entire group has vowed to never visit there again. They rent kayaks for $65 pp and you get 2:45 to complete the trek and $50 charge for taking too long. Id never recommend this place for a family outing. Hard pass...
Read moreThe 4-hour, 4-mile canoeing adventure from Sweetwater Marina was an excellent experience.
Parking was easy. There was a family running late for the 10am departure and Jersey Devil Adventures waited for them - a nice touch. The transportation to the kayak/canoe launch left promptly at 10am.
Jersey Devil Adventures had everything very well organized. It was smooth sailing (paddling?) from booking, to arrival, to the very end of the trip.
The 4-hour, 4-mile trip has one beach upon which to picnic. It took my partner and myself roughly 2.5 hours to canoe the entire 4 miles. This was with the wind against us at times and the tide going out in our favor. We also chose not to stop at any beaches, instead enjoying the water.
Three miles of the trip were in small tributaries. The last mile was a wide section of river that proved challenging on occasion to paddle through. Lots of turtles were spotted throughout as well as late season flowers. The beauty of the environment can't be overstated!
The bus driver that day, Lou, was a very pleasant conversationalist. His presence added a nice touch.
All in all, I would gladly book through Jersey Devil Adventures again and would recommend this adventure for those that have experience with a kayak or canoe and those that don't. It was a very pleasant way to spend a late summer morning...
Read moreThis was so much fun!! I found this local company via an Instagram post and we're so happy we did. Their website is so easy to use and tells you everything you can expect about your upcoming trip on the river with numerous options available. We booked the 4 mile Sweetwater River Trip. Matt, our guide, was very educated on the area and shared his knowledge with us on the shuttle to the launch site. He explained all the do's and dont's with great detail. The bus driver, Lou, was also very friendly. They got us set up and away we went on the river! It was beautiful and loaded with wildlife. We completed the 4hour trip in about 3 hours. We stopped many times to just take in our surroundings. Once we reached The Sweetwater Marina & Riverdeck at the end of the tour, a young gentleman employee, I forget his name, helped pull our kayaks up the boat ramp. He was very polite and made sure to ask how our trip was. All the employees are wonderful. Book the trip! Even if you've never kayaked, you will enjoy this! What a great team. We will be back! Thank you Jersey Devil...
