After arriving for our 2 night stay at 12:30 PM, on June 4, 2025, the woman in the office, was extremely nice and helpful, told us to come back at 2 o’clock and she would have our room ready early for us. She also explained that the next morning we would need to change rooms for our second night, but that they will make it a point to get our second room cleaned first to make the transition as smooth as possible. We went back to the office at 2:30 PM., the door was locked, a man named Eric let us in. We told him the woman earlier said to come back at 2:00 PM, our room would be ready and we could check in early. Eric questioned this twice as if we were lying as to why she would tell us that when check-in is NOT until 4:00 PM? As he was noticeably frustrated, he went ahead and let us check in. My husband and I definitely felt a little uncomfortable right off the bat😳, (not a great 1st impression to say the least). The next morning around 10:30a.m., we were told we could put our bags in the new room, they would be getting to it right away and let us know when it is ready. We had already received our code to our new room the prior day but decided to stop in the office just to double check on it. Eric informed us that because we booked through Expedia he would need our credit card on file even though we prepaid, we talked a bit about the fact that I thought I was booking under their website, but it was actually Expedia and I did not realize that until after I booked, no big deal…….then he proceeded in telling us how Expedia takes 18% of the total of the room and if we really want “The BEST treatment”, to book on their own website.😲….. I guess that should have been a red flag as to what was to come……. he told us to come back at 2:00 PM for our room but not to try to get into the room before then. We got back at 2:45 PM and of course the office door was locked & nobody was in there. We proceeded up to our room only to find him standing outside our door. With smiles we said “Oh, hello, is our room all set?” With a baffled look on his face and snottiness in his voice, he replied “Nooooo your room is NOT ready!! I told you 4 o’clock!!” We said “No sir, you never ever mentioned 4:00? You told us to come back at 2 PM.? He then proceeded in basically reprimanding us as he raised his voice by saying “ I had this conversation with you yesterday and I am not going to do it again! I told you check in is at 4 o’clock. I am not going to argue with you.!!!” This conversation went back-and-forth for a minute or two because he did argue with us…. My husband and I were so taken back, never ever in our lives have we ever been spoken to the way Eric spoke to us. This was extremely embarrassing as other guests were out & about nearby. After already wasting most of our day waiting for our room, as we stood in front of our room & Eric guarding it with his life, my husband suggested just going to the beach until our room was ready, but I was fully dressed and my bathing suit and all our belongings were in the room which we were not allowed to enter because it “was not ready”. After getting nowhere with Eric and being extremely embarrassed after being talked to as if we were 2 little children, I told Eric it is a shame because he is absolutely going to ruin this place with his terrible & unprofessional attitude. We were told he will text us when the room is ready & that’s that! As we sat down on the patio to have a snack while waiting again for our room, We heard Eric in the distance continuing to harass us yelling out across the way, “Ma’am! Ma’am! Ma’am! Check in is at 4 o’clock! I checked and it is at 4 o’clock Ma’am!!” In front of other guests on the patio…… we were so humiliated and embarrassed. We did not even respond to him. We just could not believe we were hearing this again!…….. needless to say we never received Eric‘s text because he had left for the day and obviously could care less. We finally went up to our room at 4 o’clock only to find that the housekeeper had just finished up our room as the last one of the day so I guess he proved his point about only getting “The best treatment” when booking on “their own” website instead of Expedia as we did, or any other site as such…… we were also told by several other workers that this was not their first time hearing complaints about Eric. I should also mention the night before, we met our New Hampshire friends for dinner and after bragging up and down about our wonderful place we were staying at, we brought them to see it as they had been looking for someplace nice to stay, we also bragged to our other friends and family the same, and before we would be ending our vacation there at 935 Ocean A Beachside Inn, I was set to book another trip back, this time with my mom, and my daughter for our yearly girls trip. Unfortunately, as long as Eric is still employed there, this will not be happening. None of us will be booking at all, thanks to the extremely inconsiderate, rude and unprofessional Eric, whom absolutely ruined our trip. To be honest, we really wanted to leave and not spend our second night there, but we had already paid and knew we would not get a refund. It is beyond my comprehension as to why the owners would allow someone with such a terrible personality basically run their business? It’s unfortunate that because of Eric, our trip was ruined & this was our only trip for the year, as my husband & I are unable to get away due to having a disabled son at home….. on a positive note, the owners did an amazing job with their renovations, the place is immaculate, loved the espresso machine, and the back patio with their Surf Shack and live music, not to mention the manager of the Surf Shack Chris was so extremely nice, he was...
Read moreReally loved this place when we arrived. Would have been a very enjoyable stay but the manager, Erik was extremely rude, and very unprofessional! It started with his nasty attitude, earlier we were told by the nice woman at the desk we could come back at 2 PM and she would have our room ready but when we did, Erik questioned it and right away, got an attitude with us. He clearly has a problem with anyone checking in early. We were there for a two night stay, but the next day we had to switch rooms. We were told by the woman and the staff they would have our room ready first thing and would make the transition nice and smooth. We were given our code for the new room, but stopped in the office just to double check it and Eric told us we could check in after 2:00 PM. We went to our room at 2:45 PM only to find Eric standing at the door, he argued with us and denied ever telling us that we could come back at 2:00 PM. He raised his voice at us, would not allow us to go into our room and embarrassed us in front of other guests that were around. We sat down at the patio waiting for our room and heard Eric yelling across the way in front of other guests trying to tell me check-in is at 4:00 PM saying it over and over how embarrassing. We never got a text from him as he said he would when our room was ready, apparently he left for the day, and in the end our room was the very last room to be cleaned. Earlier that morning, Eric had made the comment that we booked through Expedia, they take 18%, and expressed to us if we really want the best treatment, to book a room through their own website, I guess he proved his point By the way, we were treated. My husband and I were never spoken to or treated us the way Eric had treated us. After I had put a review on Expedia and also TripAdvisor we received a phone call apparently from marketing as she stated, she wanted to know about our trip, she was in shock after hearing what had happened and told us we would be getting a refund for our entire trip. She was not happy at all about the way things had happened. The problem is we never heard back from her, I have emailed Stephen The marketing Director, I also emailed the Inn but unfortunately, as of today, we have not gotten a response from anybody. Our trip was on June 4-6th……. very disappointed, and the fact that not a single person could take the time...
Read moreWe arrived later at night than originally planned. The email we received gave all the information we needed about getting into the room as they use a keypad for the locks and they gave us a call in the morning when we were on the road to make sure we knew how to access the room and gave us information about the hotel itself and events that would be going on there over the weekend. It was very helpful.
We stayed on the third floor and the room itself was spotless. One of the cleanest hotel rooms I've ever stepped into before. The bed was extremely comfortable, but I will say that if you're travelling with more than 2 people, the pull out secondary bed will be a little cramped. We brought our two younger kids so it fit them perfectly. Bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean.
The bathroom was clean though smaller, which is usually the case in these styles of buildings. Water pressure and hot water was fantastic though.
They seem to have a lot of events in the back yard but they break up around 10pm. It's really cool that they do all these things and don't last all night long. One night they had a DJ, the next night they had a movie. Very cool to see this sort of activity.
The beach across the street is decent and pet friendly. It has both sandy sections and rocky sections of it. The locals were all really kind and engaging with us while we were over there.
Staff at the hotel were also great. They were super nice and helpful to every question or need we had. Just be aware that there is no staff on site at night once the events are over.
Overall, this is one of the best places I've stayed in New England and will do so again in a heartbeat if/when we make it back up there. The town is smaller so it's the perfect getaway if you are looking to avoid massive crowds.
I think the only suggestion I'd even have to make this place better would be to add some towel hooks on the empty wall of the bathroom and maybe a shower caddy to be able to have more space for soap and things you need in the shower. Very minor thing. This place was...
