This is a great private campground in range of a number of parks and trails. The campground is divided into two main sections. The top section (where we stayed) has about two dozen big rig-friendly full hookup sites. All the sites are gravel, fairly level, and are wide: after the super narrow sites we had at our last two campgrounds, having lots of space between us and our neighbors was a relief. The top section is also home to the office, a recreation room, a bathhouse, a play area (with a swing set, basketball hoop, and horseshoe pits), and a communal grill area.
The bottom section is laid out in a semi-circle that hugs the Sevier River. The southern end of this section has water and electric hookups for RVs that back up to the river’s edge. The rest of the area is for tent camping or boondocking (some of the tent sites did have water). In the middle of the semi-circle is a wide-open field with a single teepee that visitors can camp in. While there is no fenced-in dog park, that field plus the perimeter of the campground provides a lot of space to walk your dogs.
The cell service was decent. I couldn’t get a consistent speed test reading with my Verizon Jetpack hotspot and MIMO antenna - the day we set up I saw between 10 and 50Mbps down and between 4Mbps and 12Mbps up - but I had no trouble working online and we streamed TV with rarely any stutters. Meanwhile, my AT&T cellphone was getting 26Mbps down and 3Mbps up.
Even though the campground was nearly full every night of our 3 week stay, it was very quiet: there’s a little road noise but it wasn’t noticeable. And with Hatch being a small town, you can see a lot of stars at night.
At the front of the short road leading into the campground is a building that houses a small convenience store that serves ice cream and a Mexican restaurant. But if you need actual groceries, you’ll have to drive 15 minutes north to Panguitch for a local grocery store, or an hour down to Cedar City for a Walmart. There is a Sinclair station in Hatch that can refill propane tanks, but when we were there the sole employee was still waiting on their certification to work the propane (as a fallback, there are places to refill propane...
Read moreWas racing in the 50 mile Bryce Canyon Ultra Marathon. Needed a place to stay for the night and saw the reviews of this place and was highly rated compared to the other places in the area. I was thinking the place was probably going to have a run down feel since it's located in a small town out in the country and lowered my expectations. To my surprise the place was actually very nice. An elderly man was running the place by himself , but he's very welcoming and very nice. The room itself was very spacious and has everything you need. The beds are very comfortable. The mattress has a tempurpedic feel to it which absolutely shocked me. Was not expecting that and the pillows have good support. Restroom had all the towel sets you need, a blow dryer, and even had small travel size shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, body wash. The travel size toiletries were amazing. I really thought none of that would be provided since we are out in a small town so I brought everything with me, but since I saw it in the restroom I had to try them. They smell great and seems to be a great product. I'm thinking it was made locally because if this motel is buying these products for the customers to use it would seem super expensive. . . The rooms are very clean and the room I stayed in had no carpet, but wood flooring. The floor felt clean as I walked on it with my bare feet. Room has a fridge and I believe a microwave as well. Also has a couch, night stands, and a big dresser. Basically fully furnished with still lots of space. . . I would absolutely recommend everyone to book a room at this motel if they have a chance or need a room. The only bad thing I could say about this motel is that my room did not have a TV. I don't even think that's a bad thing, unless you really enjoy watching TV, but when you're out in the country in that small town with Bryce Canyon right there I don't think you'll have time...
Read moreRiverside Ranch has been of the top sites we've stayed at after being on the road for 3 months. It wasn't perfect, but we certainly miss it already.
There are three levels as this campground dips into the valley. At the top, there's a motel which appears to be managed by a different group (our family stayed there and had nothing but great things to say); a middle level with gravel, full-hookup sites; and a lower level by the Sevier river (power and water only). The lowest level also had tent sites.
We stayed by the river as the sites were a bit larger, and more room to run for the kids. We picked this site for the location close to cell phone towers (great for Verizon) and location between Bryce and Zion.
While we would have stayed for two weeks, we decided before we arrived to leave early as the night temperatures were dipping into the teens. The office staff was fantastic to work with. They were friendly, accommodating, and had great proactive communication about the campground.
Pros: Quiet rec center with foosball, ping pong, books, TV (with cable) and games amazing sunrises sleepy Sevier river with lots of fish (we only caught one) corn hole, horse shoes and swing set great lighting for electric boxes great signage (easy to find at night when you're coming back from a long day) great wifi speeds (I was able to work the whole week taking videos calls etc - 40-80mbs down, 10-20mbs up)
What we'd like to see: better wifi for the lower level campsites (it was great in the top and mid levels and in the rec center younger age playground set on-site propane fill full-hook ups for lower levels more...
