The motel is a cute little place in the small town of Hatch. The rooms are clean and comfortable. They offer free coffee, water, wifi, and satellite tv. They also have a microwave and small refrigerator in the rooms. The lobby is in some need of upkeep, but after talking with the some of the family that runs the place it sounds like they have been continually renovating. The sister of the owner told me her brother recently bought the motel and was restoring the place.
Hatch is a little town sitting on a beautiful landscape of small farms and horse stables nestled in valleys between forested canyons...very pretty.
The reason I wanted to leave a review was the exceptional quality of the staff and family that run this little motel. When I arrived at the motel I had suffered a dislocated shoulder reaching into the back seat of my car. I had done this before so I figured I could get it back in place. I decided to check in first and try to do this in my room. I informed the front desk of my situation and told them it wasn't a big deal and that I would be able to pop it back.
After checking into my room and getting my two children (3 and 9) situated I tried and couldn't get it back in place. Not long into this the kid who was tending the front desk when I got there knocked on the door to see if I was okay. He told me he had the phone number to the doctor about 15 miles up the road. I told him to get it! Not long after he came back with a woman named Dixie. I can't remember how they were related exactly but they were family. She offered to call the doctor and drive me to the hospital.
At this point Dixie, along with her boyfriend Danny, helped calm down my children (it was late and my 3 year old was showing it), get them in my car and helped me get my stuff together as well. She then drove me to the emergency room where they tended to my shoulder. This took an hour and a half. Dixie sat with my kids and took care of them the whole time! Keep in mind it was getting really late and my kids were tired and upset. She then drove us back to the motel.
I can't thank Dixie enough! She was so incredibly nice I really don't know what I would have done without her help. I offered her some money after we got back and wouldn't take it. There aren't enough people like her! I am so grateful for what she did for me and my family.

Read moreVery cheap in price which unfortunately equated to cheap in quality. Had black mold in shower area and above window. We took pictures and video footage. No water pressure, no tub plug, dirty sheets. Ceiling that had been bandaged together to hold it up. Guy Thompson, possible co-owner was down right disrespectful when we asked for a refund for our second booked night. He threatened to call the cops to have us removed from the property when confronted by us for a refund. Also, there was no service at the front desk when we arrived at 9:30 pm, despite the web site advertising it would be manned til 10:30 pm. When we walked into our room we knew we didn't want to stay another night, this is when we chose to cancel our second night. But nobody was at the desk. We tried again the next morning waiting til 9:30 am to finally find someone at the desk, despite the web site advertising it would be manned at 7:30 am. We traveled to the restaurant they own to try to talk with them. Finally found the owners back at the Inn but they refused to have a civil conversation with us about the sub par standards. We even tried to talk to them about a family emergency but they refused to cooperate. This was on a Thursday morning and only one other vehicle was in the parking lot, meaning they weren't bumping anyone out of business by telling customers they have no vacancies. Ridiculous experience. Worst we've had in the past 25 years...
Read moreThe good: Spacious, clean rooms, friendly staff, quiet, comfy beds, big TV with satellite cable, free wi-fi.
The not-so-great: Horrible showerheads, our door, free wi-fi.
We stayed a couple of days after Labor Day. As noted above, the rooms were big and clean, the beds were comfy and our neighbors were quiet. We ate dinner (twice) and breakfast (once) at the Galaxy Inn which was convenient, decent (if limited) menu and friendly staff.
However, the showerhead in our bathroom had only two settings -- razor-sharp and needle-like. I thought my skin was coming off when I took my first shower (pro tip: turn the water flow down to ease the jets). We were tempted to go over to Ace Hardware in neighboring Panguitch to pick up a replacement. Likewise, the door to our room was pretty difficult to get open but I didn't feel compelled to run out to the hardware store to get a replacement. But that shower. Ouch!
The internet connection was slow, slow, slow, but being in a remote area, I was amazed it was even offered. But you know what? I didn't care. I was on vacation and ain't nobody got time for Facebooking in God's country.
PS, if you need a blow dryer, they're available at...
