We booked a tour to visit the top of Mauna Kea with Arnott's. They only pickup guests in Hilo so we met them at the visitor's center at Mauna Kea which means we missed the visit to Rainbow Falls. We met David at the center with the rest of the group to acclimatize to the altitude before heading up to the summit. David is a great driver and really made the bumpy road better than it actually was (his driving skills and the specially built tour van are most in display during the descent). He was full of knowledge and shared a lot of local knowledge not just about Mauna Kea but about what the people of Hawaii went through in the past years with COVID and such. Great insight! After driving us to the top and ensuring we were protected from the wind, the jackets provided were perfect for keeping us warm in the harsh winds (it was a warm day but the winds made the wind chill quite cold so vou need to dress up). We watched sunset and then immediately drove down closer to the visitors center to start the astronomy tour (the rangers don't allow anone to stay at the top after sunset so don't expect to be able to stay when it gets dark). The astronomy tour was incredible as you are above the cloud cover and the stars are amazing to say the least. Using his laser David showed us many of the well known constellations as well as the local constellations. His knowledge of astronomy is extensive and his passion is quite evident. If you're looking to take pictures do it after the tour as you don't want to expose your tour group to any light pollution which will ruin everyone else's enjoyment of the dark sky you are in. Ideally, book this tour during a new moon cycle to get the most exposure to stars. A bright moon means less stars available. Overall this tour was the highlight of our trip! Well worth The money!

These people were awesome !!I did the Mauna Kea Summit tour. I booked with another tour guide and 2 hours before pick up they canceled on me. I was so bummed out, it was a trip I really wanted to do and my flight was the next day. I called around and everybody was booked. I called them, they picked up on the second ring and we're so nice to me and said sure we have a spot tonight. So I met them at the visitor center. Donna was my tour guide and nobody could have been better. She went way out of her way to make sure that everybody was happy. She explained everything perfectly. I highly recommend them!!

From all budget-friendly places around the World I stayed in in the past, this establishment had the most signs with all kinds of directions. What you can / cannot / should / must do peaks at you from every imaginable corner. However; this business is run with a very good heart and a firm structure, and offers tremendous value for the $$ you spend here. My group of 4 used the campground for two nights. The amenities included (fully equipped kitchen, hot shower, TV room, board games, free parking, WiFi, lounge with dining tables or sofas) made it a luxury stay on a tight budget.

First of all, how am I the first to write a review of this place that has been here since 1990? Owned and operated by the same family since its establishment. Yes I did my homework before arriving! Now that I’m here, wow! Just wow! Located close to ITO airport and the beautiful beach, this property has a little or a lot of everything for every traveler! From incredible house/lodge style accommodations (think barndominium - I live in Tennessee) to basic hotel style rooms and suites, even onsite camping for travelers! I was immediately greeted by concierge Lauren who took her time, walking me around the grounds even though I’m just here for the night. I arrived late, but just before sunset. Ok ok, let me go back…. I was flying in from HNL and as my flight departed at 5:00pm, I received a text from Arnotts confirming my arrival. This personal touch started my journey to this review.

Being only 12 minutes from the ITO airport, a taxi ride is about $15.00. The drive is beautiful, scenic, and the view of the ocean pretty much the entire drive in reaching the resort.

The atmosphere is green, lush, and quiet. Many common areas, so if you’re traveling alone, not to worry, this Lodge makes you feel like you’re among friends!

Check in and be ready to be escorted around the property with a personal tour of all the amenities and your room!

Although there are no TVs or phones in the rooms, WiFi is strong and the air conditioner is cold! What more do you need? You’re in Hawaii! Go enjoy the sights!

The Lodge has its own tour company, excursions! No need to leave your accommodation to find things to do, this place has its own all.

10/10⭐️ for sure! Listen, if you want the beach, close to the airport (without noise, I literally heard chirping birds only), excursions, friendly people, beautiful lush grounds, a clean room, and peace! This is your place!

Thank you Lauren! You made my first visit to Hilo one I won’t forget!

I was here for 3 night. I felt enjoy and relaxed. I woke up at 3 am and go to sleep around 9 pm. I can't adjust my body clock but it's not a big deal for me cuz I didn't have plans much just snorkeling and taking photos of Milky way.

I would like to review 3 things Staff : everyone was very nice and friendly. Room : I stayed in a 6 Bedroom House. My room was very nice, clean and a good smell. I don't know what perfume they spray but very very nice. Mauna Kea Summit tour : I went in the Evening tour. My guide is Andras. He's nice, knowledgeable and friendly. I got very beautiful milky way pictures. I would recommend you to go in the Evening tour cuz you'll see the beautiful sunset, million stars and milky way (only February-October I'm not sure. Plz check with the Lodge staff). Don't forget winter jackets. It's really cold and windy. The important thing is you'll get discounts if you are the guest of Lodge. Only one thing that I sad is they do NOT have bicycle rentals anymore.

From the Lodge It's only 5 - 10 minutes walk to 3 beaches; Keaukaha Beach Park, Chalk's Beach and Onekahakaha Beach Park. It's only 2-3 minutes drive to Carlsmith Beach Park but if you walk it take 20 minutes. If you like to see the sea turtle. I would recommend to go to Keaukaha Beach Park and Carlsmith Beach Park. If you like to enjoy the weather, have a picnic and play in the water. I would recommend Onekahakaha Beach Park or Carlsmith Beach Park. If you like snorkeling. I would recommend Carlsmith Beach Park. For me I like Carlsmith Beach Park and Onekahakaha Beach Park.

I hope you enjoy...
