Extremely disappointing ||Went because free show tickets were offered and it was convenient to stay at the venue. Won't make that mistake again!||The show ("Absolute Queen", a Queen tribute band) and the venue was great. The breakdown is the hotel and casino itself.||Casino: smoke, oder filled. Not all that crowded. As with other large Mississippi casinos the word is out and their payouts are virtually non-existent. Wife fed the slots several hundred dollars, did not hit ONCE. NOT ONCE. Those we spoke to agreed and shared our experience. Beverage service is more miss than hit with few waitresses on staff at any given time. We went to GS shortly after they opened and many times after that, the casino has gone downhill considerably. ||Bottom line: Don't come here for gambling. Horrendous odds.||Hotel: Not the worst, but very near the bottom. At least it is being kept up to a degree. The housekeeping staff has two volume settings: Loud and Obnoxious. That's it. They are too lazy to walk twenty steps and talk to one another, they choose to yell at each other up and down the hallway. I think they spend 30% of their time yelling in the hallway and the rest doing their jobs. ||No reflection on the hotel directly, but because of poor or no sound deadening materials you hear every conversation, every belch, every toilet flush in a 500' radius. And the doors to the rooms have no "soft close" feature, just SLAM mode. But that's on the tacky clientele. A simple cushion on the door jamb would work wonders.||Bottom line: Don't come here for rest. Or gambling.||Food: Expensive, NOT a good value. Buffet prices on a normal weekday/weeknight meal are about $40 a plate. But the food is, IMHO, valued at about $15 a plate.||The reason the price is so high is because paying guests are subsidizing their "friends and family" unofficial program. We witnessed, as in daw with our eyes, two large "families" of color sidestep the cashier and yet were seated. No receipt asked for, no receipt offered. Judging by their interactions with the server they were very familiar with each other. Not going to name the servers because ain't none of my business. That's between the dining manager and his/her boss and the employees. Except that the money has to come from somewhere, and that would be YOUR pocket and mine. Jars off for feeding what could have been homeless folks, so at least I can write off our meals as charity, right?||Bottom line: Don't come for the food. Or rest. Or the gambling.||Next time they have an interesting show, we'll park here and attend. Bit we'll stay, gamble and...
Read moreThis use to be my favorite getaway spot - pre-divestiture to the new owners a couple of years ago. Hotel - Mattresses are hard and even the padding placed on top of them do not help. Far from luxury like it was prior to the divestiture by MGM! Over many recent months, none of the rooms I occupied had a Safe that was dysfunctional. How do you take away customers' ability to secure valuables....on a casino property? Have had to beg and beg for a do not disturb sign. Not very clean (often times dusty, sticky floors or stained, dysfunctional toilets on certain higher floors). Door slamming waaay too loud to be in any hotel, I think. Certain front desk workers could use coaching on communication, better eye contact and tone of voice.
Food - Out of all the eating venus, I rate as 3 out of 5 stars for BET MGM, Steakhouse and buffet (which I believe is waaaay over priced); but the lobby eating venue near the gift shop could use an overall "do-over." Very limited healthy choices, false menu items at times, and too much greasy food as it is the only late night option because all the other eating venus close way too early for an establishment casino entity open 25/7.
Parking - At your own risk.....and they mean it!
Casino - Unfortunately, can no longer recommend dropping a penny here given my huge losses since the sale by MGM! It's extremely depressing! Slots are getting tighter and tighter and is down right disappointing. Table games - no better. They switched giving players the first cards from the card shuffler to improve their edge, although GS did this just before they sold the casino to Cherokee!
After over 25 years patronizing GS, I am deeply saddened about all that I am witnessing. It is as if certain employees became cocky after the sale and no longer engage with players like before and come across now as if they are doing us a favor by booking our bets with plenty of attitude, combativeness and rudeness. When I travel up north to casinos, it is very refreshing to get out of...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Gold Strike Casino, and I must say, it was an amazing experience! From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure my visit was enjoyable.
One of the standout features of Gold Strike is their incredible weekly giveaways. Whether you're a seasoned player or just stopping by for a bit of fun, these giveaways offer exciting opportunities to win big. I was impressed by how generous and well-organized these promotions were, adding an extra layer of excitement to my visit.
Another highlight was the complimentary perks offered to guests. From free room stays to food and free play, Gold Strike knows how to take care of their patrons. The rooms were comfortable and well-maintained, providing the perfect retreat after a night of gaming. The food options were diverse and delicious, making it easy to find something to satisfy any craving.
While my overall experience was fantastic, I do have a couple of suggestions for improvement. The beverage service on the casino floor could be more efficient. It would be great to see more servers available to ensure guests receive their drinks promptly. Additionally, the restaurant at the front of the casino and the one located in the high roller slots area could benefit from expanded menus and extended hours to better accommodate guests looking for a bite to eat.
Overall, Gold Strike Casino delivers a top-notch gaming and entertainment experience. With their generous giveaways, complimentary perks, and friendly staff, it's a destination I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun and rewarding casino visit. I can't wait for my...
