We personally love to stay in old world charm motels. This place is definitely one of those... Even had a real key! The rooms are outdated but we expected that because it is older. We don't mind that at all! It was very clean with well working showers and hot water, refrigerator, microwave, TV, bed and small coffee maker...all the basics. I would bring your own toiletries however, because although they do provide a bit of soap and shampoo, it is minimal. Our only complaint would be the bed and it's condition. It was very old and EXTREMELY squeaky and the bedspread was something out of the seventies with the plastic backing underneath. Otherwise, it was a great stay and perfectly priced! The owners very friendly and even walked us to our room. There are no ice machines or other amenities like continental breakfasts or pools... but if you don't mind that, (in which we don't!) this place is definitely a great stay! We spent two days to go adventure the caves and it was a perfect location. Again, I cannot emphasize how perfect pricing was. Very clean as well! Great memories

Absolutely impressed with this place. Not a lot to look at from the outside, but very clean, cute, vintage and spacious room. We stayed in a non smoking room up the stairs, but lots of comfy chairs and ashtrays on porch. Newest mattresses I've ever seen in a hotel room. Mini fridge and microwave in room. Only downside is the wash stall bathroom. Toliet was very small, shower was tiny, but it was clean. No breakfast. Paid $55 with taxes for 1 night. Best vintage motel I've stayed at. Will definitely stay again if I'm back in the area!

It has potential, I was excited to see a family owned motel with great reviews. I'm not sure where these reviews came from. Very dirty, blinds are filthy, window screen is broke. Cob webs on baseboards and ceiling. Smoke filled room. Old candy wrappers left around, bugs crawling on towels. Chair was disgusting. For over $80 a night I wouldn't stay here. Its not going to be a fancy hotel but it was filthy, and people are living there but they seemed friendly.

Can't tell ya what the rooms are like, but I can say the staff is either children, or a very angry man. I didn't make it past the front desk. Editing to add, the man who shredded my "receipt" refused the refund. So, considering all the other reviews of his made up fees- Not only does the staff suck, they're thieves. I booked through Priceline, at an awesome price ($49) for a room with 2 full beds. When I arrived to check in, the owner asked me all the standard questions, and if I had any pets, to which I answered honestly - Yes, I have my service dog. He asked me what services she provided, and I informed him her services focused on my PTSD/symptoms from a TBI. He told me I would have to pay the pet fee and extra deposit because I had not disclosed her presence when I booked. I informed him that there was no option to disclose a pet through the blind booking on Priceline, but that I had freely disclosed her presence as soon as I was able. The owner got agitated and told me it was an option on Priceline, and that it was my mistake and I had to pay more. I told him fine, I'd pay the $20, but that what he was doing violated the ADA, and wasn't right. I pulled out my phone to the Priceline page and pressed "book again" and showed him there was no option to disclose a pet. He had me come around the desk and showed me that Expedia absolutely has that option. I reminded him that I didn't use Expedia, and that I had shown him the process on Priceline. Then he yelled at me to get away from behind the desk (that he had called me around to), and that he was cancelling my reservation because he won't deal with "complicated people". He physically ripped up my "receipt" in my face, and told me multiple times to leave. I attempted to clarify the situation, not because I wanted to stay there, but because of it happened to me- It'll happen to other customers. He wouldn't listen, cancelled my reservation (have yet to see a refund), and just told me to leave. Personally, I wouldn't sleep in the parking lot if I was paid to- Not a lot of organizations work with the VA and vets, and the ones that do are obviously overburdened. My dog is my lifeline, and I had to wait and fight to have her with me. This is the second motel/hotel in this area of KY that's violated the ADA, so not only would I not stay here- Might be worth heading towards an area that understands the laws regarding disability.

But if you're gonna stay there, make sure you throw a tip to the child labor, and definitely don't use Priceline, or call before you arrive and make sure they know you have a pet or...

As soon as my wife left them a good review. Kept both our rooms incredibly clean even before checkout so they didn’t have to be bothered with it she turned the towels in in the morning as instructed to the property in the morning and was told they would bring us more. She waited all day not bothering the and I get home from work so tired after a 14 hour shift I work 7 days a week and asked for our towels before bed that were never brought and was told I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE ANY TOWELS TO SHOWER AFTER WORKING ALL DAY UNTIL IN THE MORNING WHICH MEANS I WONT GET TO SHOWER GOR A WHOLE DAY. ECAUSE I HAVE TO LEAVE AT 4:30 am for work and very morning! After we have paid for a week here. I pay for the service of this motel and no matter what time I get home I SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO TAKE A SHOWER. I WORK , and love y life on my time when I want to shower. I’m a free man and unless I live in an institution or hospital or jail and am ordered to do different…… my freedom and the service I pay for should be provided. I will be contacting the property owner. As well as instruct my wife to take down her five star review she gave them !!!!!!!!!!!! Now….. if they decide to accommodate as they should because that’s what I PAY THEM TO DO AS WELL AS CHANGE OUT ROOM AS PROMISED THEN I WILL GIVE A BETTER REVIEW AND TAKE THIS DOWN BUT UNTIL THEN I WILL NOT BE TREATED AND TOLD I AM NOT ALLOWED TO SHOWER ALL BECAUSE THEY DONT FEEL LIKE GOVING ME MY TOWELS THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO BE BROUGHT TO OUR ROOM 17 hours ago!!!!!!!!!!!!! Completely...

The Horse Cave Motel is an excellent "mom-and-pop" budget motel near Mammoth Cave. I'm normally hesitant about staying at budget motels since I've had bad experiences with them, but after reading the online reviews for the Horse Cave Motel, I decided to give it a try. I'm happy to report that the reviews are accurate. The staff was friendly and outgoing, my room was very clean (bedding had a couple of minor stains, but nothing that was off-putting), and the price is unbeatable. A couple reviewers mentioned bed bugs, so I inspected the bed carefully with a flashlight. I could not find any evidence of bed bugs at all. The building looks a bit old, but the property itself is both well-maintained and well-lighted. The walls are as thin as any other motel, but the area does get very quiet after 11 pm. As other reviewers have noted, the place feels safe. If you're visiting Mammoth Cave, the motel is located about 20 minutes from the visitor center. For dining options, there are two restaurants close by (one of them is not yet listed on Google Maps at this time, but it is located half a mile east on East Main Street). Nearby Cave City (which contains a collection of chain hotels and chain restaurants) is located about 10 minutes closer to the visitor center, but you would pay a lot more for a room for that...
