I was really excited to visit a hot springs resort for the first time in my 21 years, but unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the expectations. We stayed in Room 1, which was just okay upon arrival. The dining table was nicely set, but all of the chairs were stained and torn—I avoided sitting on them entirely during our stay. The floors were cracked and even missing pieces in some spots, and the window shade didn’t fully close, leaving very little privacy (you could easily see someone’s knees or thighs from outside). The bedroom was visually nice, but the bed was extremely firm and uncomfortable—not ideal for relaxing or even just laying down. The A/C unit was positioned right next to one side of the bed, which meant loud airflow directly in your face if you slept on that side. The bathroom had a beautiful soaking tub, which was a big highlight at first glance. However, the tub was unstable—it wobbled and you slid down while trying to relax in it unless you placed a non-slip towel inside. The sulfur smell was strong (understandably, given it’s a hot spring), but the bathroom window wouldn’t open to help ventilate the room. We tried everything to get it to open but had no luck. We ended up moving the dining room fan into the bathroom just to shower or soak without feeling overwhelmed. Even the fan/light combo in the bathroom didn’t seem to work properly. The bathroom ceiling had some interesting angel designs, which were kind of cool but felt oddly out of place with the rest of the room's older, worn-out decor. The kitchen was adequate, but one of the baking sheets didn’t even fit in the oven. The back patio was plain, and the doors felt extremely flimsy—every time we used them, it seemed like the handles might fall off. Locking the door required pulling it tightly toward you just to get it to latch properly. We also paid an extra $10 for access to the private soaking tubs, which was definitely not worth it. The jets didn’t work, so it felt no different from soaking in the room’s tub, just with a little more space and outdoors. On a positive note, the staff was kind and accommodating. They provided us with a blanket for our dog, which was thoughtful, and we appreciated that they gave us a refund for one night after we chose to cut our trip short. Overall, this experience left us disappointed. With some updates, repairs, and better maintenance, this could be a much more enjoyable getaway—but in its current state, I wouldn’t recommend it, especially for first-timers looking for a relaxing hot springs retreat.

Take a step back in time to a place where electricity was something that turned the lights on. It's like taking a trip to Grandma's. Old fashioned furniture and set up, plus your own special place to soak in nourishing waters in the privacy of your open room. The place itself is peaceful, and the local residents are super easy going. If you're looking for a place to balance your spirit, this is it. No tv. They do have Internet. The only signs that it's a hotel are the signs above the toilet. It's set up like a mini home. The table is already set when you walk in, and the cupboards already have dishes. Towels next to the sink for washing dishes. The back opens up into a mutual meeting place out of the weather, then out onto the porch where a bunch of chairs seat a BBQ area next to a crab apple tree. Walk a little further and there's a literal garden area and sauna. The water does stink. It's all hot springs water. It's piped right into the place. Not great for drinking. Would recommend bringing your own water. Also, if you want the real home experience, load you're fridge with food and make a great home cooked meal in the full sized oven. Bonus: deer literally walk by on the front lawn. Almost oblivious to the danger humans pose to them.

If you haven’t been to a vintage hot springs motel, this probably shouldn’t be your first. The water is VERY sulphuric, there’s no getting around the smell. We brought drinking water with us from the grocery store, it’s safe to drink the water here but again, there’s no getting around the smell. We stayed in cabin #15, the room has no TV and no clock radio. There is a room with two lounge sofa chairs and a big soaking tub that can fit 2 average size people. There’s a fully stocked kitchen and a separate bathroom with a shower. The staff puts your keys in your room before you arrive. We were wandering a little to find our room and a staff member was in the garden and helped us find it. They have one outdoor hot tub with spring water piped in, it costs $10 for two people for one hour, we stuck with the tub in our room. They also have a sauna you can use for an additional up-charge. Ultimately, a really cool spot that we will be returning to. If you can’t stand the smell of sulphur, Hot Springs Montana is probably not for you, but Alameda’s is the place to stay.

Summary: Hot Springs has poor cell service and the motel suite wifi is a bit spotty. After dropping roughly $350 for three nights I was charged $20 (not $10 like I expected) for late checkout. A disappointing end to an otherwise enjoyable visit.

(FYI: I'm not sure the doors to the shared porch lock. I didn't notice until the last day or I would not have slept so well.)

I was dealing with an impossible situation, communicated to the front desk and owner (I was trying to help my parents before leaving town) but felt like I could not leave because I would be disconnected from the call after working with TracFone for hours.

I suppose there is no need for compassion when your rooms are full. Therefore they lost stars for what would have otherwise been a wonderful experience. Not the small town "hope to see you again" I was hoping for.

Booked future visits to HS through Airbnb.

LONGER VERSION

The suite was lovely. I enjoyed the deep tub and mineral water. The view is so so. I didn't open the window shades all of the way because of obstructions to the beautiful mountain view.

Without going into detail about my nightmare with TracFone, I was handling a frustrating situation for my parents (very, very frustrating). Once I knew it was going to run long I called the front desk to pay for late checkout which I thought would be $10.

While dealing with the most frustrating phone call in my recent life (no joke), the owner knocked on the door. (The inside door to the shared enclosed deck apparently cannot be locked - I'm glad I didn't realize this until then or I wouldn't have slept nearly as well.) I was on the phone with the nightmare corporation (a whole other story) and explained what was happening (I was trying to help my parents with this issue before I drove back to Missoula and did not want to do this in the dark).

Because of the poor cellphone service and spotty wifi there was one area in the suite where I felt I could be sure my call would not be dropped. I put my belongings on the front porch because I was afraid I would lose my call if walked to my car. I was fine with the $10 and felt that was fair. The additional $10 felt a bit like an FU (what am I going to do about it) after experiencing a frustrating and stressful situation. If I spent the extra 2 hours in the tub, ok. But the owner was aware that I wasn't trying to squeeze more leisure time out of them, I was trying to help my parents before...

I waited almost a month to write this, hoping my memory would lessen my bad experience. This place was clean but the whole vibe is creepy. Paper thin walls, you will hear everything your neighbors say and do and I mean EVERYTHING. The curtains are see through to the sun room. There was a TRAP DOOR in the wood floor next to my funky bed (see pic) I wandered out to the courtyard to figure things out and I ran into some smoking gal who claimed she worked here and some other person, smoking weed by the fire pit. The gal told me they have a bad stray dog problem in this town. She has a dog or two tied to a fence. Yes, dogs were running loose everywhere.||||Parking is a major shortage at this place. I got in at dark and struggled to find any parking where I could keep an eye on my truck. A lot of seedy things going on was the vibe. The property across the street has threatening no parking signs all over. Get here early or who knows where you park.||The water... First I must say I have been to over 60 hot springs in 5 countries in my lifetime so I am no rookie and know the water usually smells. This water made me sick. Made my dog sick. I had the foulest farts for 2 days after staying here. My dog had some of this water in his food and he stopped eating for 2 days after our stay. The smell of this water actually turned my stomach.||||WARNING- Deer are literally everywhere, if you drive to this place at dusk, LOOK OUT FOR DEER. The RV in front of me hit one. Montana puts little white crosses where people have been killed on the road. There are non stop crosses along the road around here.||||I'm sorry to leave such a sad review but it's my experience.||Good stuff.... Lovely flowers. You can pee your dog right out your darkened door. You won't be late tomorrow because you won't be...
