My family and I stayed at Sunrise Ridge for a week and we had an absolutely amazing stay! The hosts are so welcoming and truly care about their campground. Our kids enjoyed the sweet pop-up library at the entrance of the park (FILLED with children books!) as well as the free range chickens roaming by the owners’ home. The bathrooms and shower house was PRISTINE. Hands down the cleanest, nicest campground bathrooms we have ever come across (and we are full-timers!). They even thought of the little things (no nasty shower curtain, a shelf for your soaps, handicap accessible with fold-down chair, a bench for items and multiple hooks). You can tell the owners take pride in their work and we saw them outside every day working hard to keep the grounds maintained. Sunrise ridge was the perfect location to explore Hot Springs. You are only 7 minutes from Wind Cave NP and spotting bison or pronghorns, many local hot springs to swim in and not far from Custer! You’d be missing out if you don’t swing through the tiny town of Hot Springs and stay at this lovely park!

This is a gem of a campground, a must-stay when in the Hot Springs or surrounding area! So much to do within close proximity or a little drive to the big monuments and National Parks (a huge herd of bison are less than a 10-min ride away at Wind Cave). We are a full-time rv travel family with 2 small kids so we look for smaller campgrounds that have a family-friendly vibe, are quiet, and have friendly owners/hosts. If that’s what you’re looking, this is it! Josh and Alicia are incredibly personable and really seek to make your stay enjoyable. They gave us tips on what to do/see in Hot Springs so we were able to keep the kids busy during our week-long stay. Back at the campground, the kids loved the free library at the entrance, petting the cows, and that the bathrooms were super close by. We loved how clean and quiet the whole campground is. When in South Dakota again, we’ll 100% stay at Sunrise Ridge. Thank you for being such great hosts!!

First off, I have never written a review for this campground despite staying here every Summer for almost 5 years now and I really had not ever planned to. I recently read one review that was completely off base and not my experience at all with the new ownership change, I felt inspired. Admittedly, I was fairly nervous during the ownership change since this has been my "summer home" for a while now and I really liked the previous owners and got to know them well over the years.

After being under new ownership for two months now, I can safely say I will continue to stay here during the summers for the foreseeable future until I bore myself with the RV life (don't see it happening anytime soon, love it.) Laura & David are great, and have been nothing but kind and super hospitable during my stay. I am fairly self sufficient and know my way around the place, so I do not often have problems I cannot handle, but I can say first hand they are super accommodating. I had a problem that was beyond my control and also nothing to do with the campground that was handled with grace and care. If this were a place that was run by the type of individuals that were described in the review I read, I would have left and found another place to stay. I care very deeply about the people that would be entrusted with this special place, and surely would not be able to stay here if it were run by delinquents. This campground is often described as a "hidden gem"; it absolutely is. There are several factors that inspire people to describe it as such. The absolutely wonderful views are one, and I assure you if you step outside your rig; you can enjoy them from every inch of the campground. The impeccable grounds, and let me tell you about the shower house. I have done a lot of traveling and from the day I arrived here to this day, they are the cleanest, best kept showers/restrooms I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. My dog Buddy loves the place with the dog park and every once and while Buddy makes a new friend. Among other things, last but most important (important to me), are the people that run the show. If they were anything but great like I said; I would have left. I see them and talk with them almost everyday when I am walking my dog, and they are working around the camp. Speaking of work, they are putting in 10-12 new sites as we speak and with unobstructed views no less, and a brand new washer/dryer facility. The place is practically kept brand new looking year round. None of this would have been possible without the work of the previous owners, but I have witnessed first hand (I see it out my window everyday!), Sunrise Ridge is in great new hands.

Lastly, sometimes things just happen that are beyond your control. Life goes so much smoother if you take small inconveniences in stride, without entitlement or harsh, borderline inappropriate attitudes. (Fiery Redhead is nothing but further from the truth and just plain mean to describe anyone as.) Everyone chill out! Also, as a point of fact checking the accommodations the individual received from "The Review" was probably the most coveted site in the entire Park. The owners let them pull front facing into a site that is absolutely not equipped for a giant Class A. (The Class A actually obstructed my view! I can in my spot just look right out my window and see the spectacular views any day. I should demand a refund!) I can assure you though, from that site as long as you have windows(they had plenty of windows), they had the best view in the house. All you have to do is tilt your head up a bit, to avoid the....checks notes...electrical boxes? Also, despite whatever inconvenience presented it is not generally a good look to walk up and down the camp site yelling at your husband and the fiery red head. I was working that day, and I heard a lady from inside my RV, looked out the window and felt sorry for the guy. Later I got into my bright red truck to go stock up on provisions right down the road, the whole town of Hot Springs is close by!

If you want to witness some bad customer service and conduct from a fiery redheadhere.

Complete chaos at check-in with the new owners of this campground ,worst customer service I’ve ever received in 50 years of my working career in the Customer Service industry.

Checked in at Sunnrise RV campground, South Dakota after booking my reservation in February 2025 for May 2025 arrival . We arrived on my schedule day of reservation printed confirmation in hand, brought it into the at Sunrise RV Campground book office gave it to Laura and we were completely/utterly argumentatively denied our planned site and terms that was booked with the previous owner Angela, I believe was here name . (forgive me if that name is not correct.) Angela, the previous owner was marvelous outstanding .She genuinely helped me pick out a site to be facing the mountain (not the road ) by allowing us to turn our rig around because we have extenders to do so . There were many phone conversations and emails about this arrangement in the notes on the computer that Laura (new owner) was actually reading at check in that we would be turning around and it was No Problem At All. Laura actually said to me hold on. I have to read all of these notes on your reservation. (I wanted everything to be crystal clear and transparent upon booking this reservation.) The previous owner Angela actually called me a month before our reservation and said. “I would like to move your campsite over one site because I was walking around the campsite thinking about your requests and this would be a better campsite for you .” We want you to be happy and enjoy your stay . I said thank you so much I absolutely appreciate your concern/care in my reservation. I even mentioned to my boyfriend how great the Customer Service was.. When we arrive with the new owner, Laura and her husband it was polar opposite.

Did you ever walk into her place and know instantly the vibe is not right right from the get-go that was my experience immediately upon entering the office. I was shocked /disappointed, about the treatment we were receiving and the denial of the reservation that was so carefully planned in hand . The chaos snowball into my significant other and I having an argument and we don’t fight, it ruined my day .

The options Laura was provided were terrible. Laura made me feel like chopped liver an our desires and reservation was second rate.

We opted for available site facing the mountains with a windshield view only ,sacrifice both slide out views for propane tanks, 4 large electrical boxes, the washroom, the other side we got to enjoy a bright red, shiny vehicle, and a cabin 3 feet away from our window and door . So we just closed our side blinds left the windshield open for our viewing pleasure. We are tree, hugger, kind of couple seeking serenity ,kindness, and peace on a 30 Day Rd. trip :”Seasoned veterans as my boyfriend says.

Big fans of the Harvest Host locations, and people unfortunately none were available in the area.

Thank goodness, we had a couple of day tours and we didn’t have to see her mulling about . It appears she lived in a cabin right below our windshield down the hill.🥺

So this was our experience . Buyer beware they are rookies at best. Don’t expect good customer service and you won’t be disappointed.

It takes a lot for me to write a bad review but this put me...

Campground Review - Hot Springs, SD

  • A Hidden Gem in Hot Springs - Peace, Pines, and Professionalism I'm spending a week here while drawing up final plans for my next build, ChiCamocha II, and I couldn't have picked a better place to clear my head. This campground is hands-down one of the best-kept secrets in the Black Hills. Before arriving, I saw a negative review from someone driving a high-end Class A motorhome-complaining about one of the owners, described as a "fiery redhead." Let me just say: that reviewer couldn't be more off base. I've met the owners myself, and they are the very definition of warm professionalism-welcoming, helpful, and clearly passionate about maintaining a peaceful environment for all. With 30 years of RV travel under my belt, including luxury campgrounds across the country, I've learned what actually matters: quiet nights, respectful neighbors, and good folks running the show. This isn't a place where you'll find late-night parties, beer-fueled nonsense, or guests treating staff like servants. It's calm, clean, and surrounded by spectacular pine-scented mountain air that'll make you want to stay forever. The mountain views are jaw-dropping, and just two miles down the road you've got trout fishing spots that'll make you cancel your dinner plans. The nearby lakes? Unreal. Clear, peaceful, and perfect for soaking up South Dakota's underrated beauty. If you're after peace, natural beauty, and genuinely good people-this is your place. And if you're the kind who expects champagne service while throwing shade from behind your sunglasses......
