I was so excited to stay at Whitney’s Inn for a relaxing mother-daughter hiking weekend, but unfortunately our experience was deeply disappointing — not because of the rustic charm or age of the property, but due to poor customer service and a lack of basic hospitality.
We booked a Deluxe Queen Room through Expedia, which included a seating area, but were placed in what was clearly a Petite Queen Room. When I brought this up to the innkeeper, she neither confirmed nor denied the mistake — instead offering us a “free upgrade” to the Penthouse Suite. At first, this sounded generous, but in reality, it was just a modestly larger space with an awkward layout (just the shower on the first floor), old, uncomfortable beds, a TV that didn’t work, and minimal security — only a doorknob lock with no interior bolt.
As two women traveling alone, this felt incredibly unsafe. After returning from dinner and noticing that things in our room had been moved or turned on, we had to block the door with a table just to sleep.
The room itself felt thrown together — furniture still had the part number stickers on it. The beds are uncomfortable and old. It is such a bummer to see such a beautiful property with so much potential cut corners.
What really stood out was the innkeeper’s lack of attention to guests. The moment I mentioned we had booked through Expedia, it was clear she didn’t want to engage with us. After our first night in the Petite Queen Room — which we hadn’t booked — she texted asking how our stay was going. I replied, explained the issue, and she offered a room change via text.
However, when we returned to the inn later that day, she didn’t seem to remember the conversation at all. She asked if I was checking in, and when I reminded her I was the guest she had been texting with earlier, she said she didn’t remember me or what we had discussed. Then, the following day — after we had accepted the new room and spent another night there.
The only bright spot was the dog on the property, but even that was overshadowed by the fact that it was using a pee pad in the dining room, which I almost stepped in — completely inappropriate for any food-adjacent space, especially from the perspective of someone who’s worked in the hospitality industry for over 40 years.
I know how much a bad review can impact staff morale and business, and I don’t take writing one lightly. But everything I’ve listed here reflects choices — choices to cut corners, to underdeliver, and to avoid accountability. These aren’t issues of the building being old or the vibe being rustic — they’re correctable problems that show a lack of attention, care, and hospitality.
This inn has potential in its location and concept, but as it stands now, I would not recommend...
Read moreMy husband and I will forever have so much love for Whitney's Inn!! We had our wedding here on 11/11/23 and Don and their entire team made our wedding an absolute dream come true. From our first visit to the venue, to returning for the tasting event, to the big weekend itself..this place became a second home to us. It was the most charming, warm and cozy venue for hosting our rustic fall wedding, and the prices were more than reasonable compared to other venues we were seeing. Don and his team were receptive and willing to do anything within their power to address every idea, question, detail and concern that we had (Don literally upgraded all the string lights before our wedding because he knew how much we loved them). It was also important to us to find an LGBTQ+ Supporting venue, and we truly felt part of the Whitney's Inn family by the end.
In November, we had no idea if we were going to have our ceremony at the Woodland Ceremony Site with the cold. After some back and forth planning, we made the call to do it outside on the wedding day, and Don and the entire team switched gears and had everything ready in no time! Not only was it the right call, but despite the cold, we had blankets for our guests and they couldn't stop talking about how gorgeous the ceremony was (and the pictures certainly back that up!) Having accommodations on-site (with so many nearby) was a no-brainer, including an actual salon for the women in our wedding party!! It felt like a little getaway with all of our favorite people, and there was so much for guests to do and explore on their own time. Having breakfast with everyone in the morning was also one of the more special moments from the weekend that I'll always remember. We went to the Red Fox for our rehearsal dinner, but they offer that as well!! Literally, it's a one-stop shop venue and Don has a great connection to vendors (shoutout to Dutch Bloemen Winkel and Autumn Nomad).
At first glance, it may seem humble and quaint, but it truly transformed for the wedding, and people could not stop talking about how special our wedding weekend was. The staff brought so much energy and charisma, and were fantastic! There are so many spaces for guests to enjoy sweet little moments. The barn was already gorgeous, but became totally transformed once all the lights, fireplace and candles, and flowers were all out. Can't speak highly enough. We were so sad once it was all over, and know that we'll be back for a visit...
Read moreWe got married at Whitney's in 2022. The venue is a lovely little mountain retreat. They do almost everything, food, bar, and space for your guests to stay right on site. It's been 3 years and friends and family still rave about the fun they had at our wedding. The ceremony space by the brook is so romantic, and intimate feeling.||We recently re-visited because they had a Second Honeymoon event. The event was lovely. We had champagne in the room waiting when we arrived, we had delicious house-made chocolate covered strawberries, and a romantic gift basket.||The following day we got to explore where we said "I do", and spend time together in the Jackson/Conway area. We visited the spa at the Christmas Inn, and had a very relaxing, very affordable hand and arm treatment. The spa was lovely, low key, and had delicious tea and flavored water available.||At the provided Second Honeymoon dinner/cocktail hour, there was wonderful company, food, music, and even a romantic little dance. The steak tips were AMAZING. The bartender knows how to make a good, well balanced aperol spritz.||Everything was personalized. The little touches were so very appreciated. ||Everyone on staff makes you feel like an old friend, there's no pretentious attitude in the building.||Whitney's, please continue this Second Honeymoon event. It was an honor to be a part of the first one ever.||The romance of being back in the place you got married, and being able to reminisce with each other and the other couples felt so very special. I wish other couples the opportunity to be part of such a special event.||Couples looking to get married, you will not regret getting married at this beautiful, low key, fun and so very...
