We visited Jekyl Island Campground with our 53 year old Blue Bird Wanderlodge RV and 3 kids, and stayed for 4 days- a weekend and two weekdays. It’s not a “motor coach resort” and that’s a good thing! Bottom line is that if you want to camp with your RV on Jekyl Island, then this is the only show in town. If you want paved spots and luxury amenities- go to Hilton Head and pay literally 3x the price as Jekyll Island. Here there is a slower pace, and the campground has a chill vibe. If you want to be surrounded by massive oaks and pines in a rustic setting you will like this place. All the people and staff we met were nice and the 50 amp service, water, and sewer service all worked great. Didn’t try the cable TV..didn't turn on our tv once. You get an aluminum pick-nick bench and a fire ring as well. Some sites only have 30 amp service. Be prepared to level your rig. Here’s some top tips I would tell someone coming here for the first time: 1) Make sure you bring a screened tent if you plan to eat or sit outside- the gnats and mosquitos are fairly bad. Bug incense / coils and spray goes a long way and you will be miserable without it. Also bring after-bite for your kids cause they will get bitten. 2) the spots are mostly dirt and leaves, so bring a mat to place outside your RV under your awning. Some sites are gravel - ours was not. 3)Some or the sites are close together, some are a bit more spaced out- we were pretty happy with our spot privacy wise, although a neighbor arrived behind us, who hung up all kinds of LED string lights and lit up the entire area. Appears there is no enforced “lights out” policies at this campground as lots of folks had LEDs and awning lights blaring all night. There was no noise, other than the occasional dog- it was very quiet overall. We like it very dark so maybe some people don’t mind light and yes, we do have blackout curtains. 4) There is a swing-set and a small basketball court but other than that, not much for kids. 5) We paid around $55 a night- which was a great deal I thought. We love Jekyl Island and of course will be back...

Read moreJekyll Island is beautiful and the campground is convenient, and hosts are nice so that gets it 2 stars. Otherwise not much else positive about the park. We’ve stayed at a lot of state parks and this one is near or at the bottom of the list. Bathhouses are dirty, well worn and outdated ( not to mention not private). I’ve seen the same waste items in the showers on multiple days. Sights are crammed together with little space between campers. Lots of nice shade trees, but the grounds are covered in leaves making it look grungy. No attempt is made to clean anything up. Make sure you have bug spray as this campground is a MOSQUITO breeding / feeding ground. They do wash the floors in bathrooms but then leave the door open and the lights on for the floor to dry. This in turn lures the mosquitoes into the bath house so you can swat them while taking your shower. They are in the process of expanding the park so there is heavy, LOUD machinery running morning to night cutting and chipping timber. At our sight you had to talk loud to hear each other a few feet apart. Comparing this to the rest of the island, (which is all magnificently maintained and beautiful) the campground is by far the most disappointing spot on the island. If you stay here, spend your days elsewhere and come back after dark when you can’t see the premises, shower in your RV and stay inside. Another item they fail to mention when you make a reservation and you wouldn’t know unless you were local is that on top of the campground charge the island charges a daily “parking fee” at the bridge tollbooth of $8 per car...
