Found this hotel from the Ascend Hotel Collection and I could only read 3 reviews, but they sounded good enough, that I called in. Lady at front desk very helpful but some miscommunication about the amenities. The deluxe continental breakfast was far from it with just fruit, pastries, and microwavable items. Grounds were nice enough and as a photographer got some decent shots, thought the pond water very dirty, and the above grounds in rough shape, be wary of loose river rock paths edges! I even took a few pics for fellow lodgers out for a big night. The room is mainly why my rating so low, as smelled of mold. There was some standing water in the back parking lot of Inn, portion blocked off, and the odor of room very similar. There was an overhead light that flickered off and on, unless shut off completely. The floor sloped and was soft in places. The bed decent but pillows extremely uncomfortable. Noise was easily heard through gap in room door. Above noise was same, but fortunately the lodger was quiet after 10. The 2 person listed whirlpool was not, at 5"5' i could touch toes to the oddly designed (very old) tub, and my 6foot husband impossible to fit sadly. It is wired to the wall, so after in, had to get back out and turn on, quite the wet hassle. Aveda products a nice touch. Gave a point for the architectural appeal of the room and the unique couch that surround two walls, but was not comfortable, so just for aesthetics. balcony was very nice, no view, but spacious and a plus. As a military couple who travel the US we felt like they tried a NOLA vibe, but just could not pull off at this mill to the standards we are accustomed with older lodgings. At check out tried to speak with the young man about who to contact about the issues we experienced: no owner info available, private, only given a "managers" number. With that said, hoping Ascend does reach out, and pay very close attention to reviews like mine, that are quite different than what I was able to actually view about the Inn at the Mill. The mold aroma/issue especially, as coughed a lot, and had known would not have...
Read moreWe booked online and really appreciated the front desk clerk who found us a better rate upon our arrival. It would help new visitors if signage for the office was a bit more clear.
The room itself is on three levels so is not handicapped accessible which was not a problem for us. The decor has a strange mismatch of styles which threw us both off because the room itself is so spectacular with the old mill beams and the view out the window to the water wheel and pond.
The bathroom area is very classic with a diamond pattern of tiles, mostly marble. The hot water was great. However, no hand soap whatsoever, only shower gel and shampoos. The bed was overall comfortable but the linens showed wear with some slight holes. The Roman Shade on that floor was broken
My advice? Ditch the large armoire, and wall mount the television across from the sofa. Put a differently styled desk and chair where the armoire is, and ditch the rolling bar cart that is circa 1970. Put a rolling oil heater in the bathroom so guests can warm up all the chilly marble when needed.
Overall, I give this room a high score because we loved the history of the Mill and the aged beams were lovely to see throughout the room on all three levels. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. The breakfast was better then the toast and scrambled eggs you usually get. The grounds were absolutely lovely to walk around and if the weather had been warmer we would have...
Read moreAlthough this hotel had plenty of beautiful rooms (pictured when booking, very misleading) we were booked into one on the ground floor facing the parking lot and street, with guests above us stomping around late into the night. We tried calling in the days leading up to our stay, to ask if we could secure a room with a view, but they never answered the phone. Once there, my wife asked if there were other rooms available, or if we could pay to upgrade, but the answer was a flat no and even the price we had already paid was not taken into account for an upgrade into one of their many empty suites. It was our anniversary and we were so disappointed to have ended up there. The receptionist told us to use their more preferable booking website for our next anniversary night with them. It was clear we weren't prioritised simply due to who we made our booking through, and the receptionist was deluded enough to assume we would be coming back next year.
The booking had also stated that it includes a hot breakfast, but available was stale bread, cheese/meats and fruit. The tv in the room was so tiny and stuck in a closet beside the bed, not viewable from the bed for both of us. The exterior of the hotel is beautiful around the building with the suits. But most of the king size rooms face the street and the pictures made it look secluded and quiet,...
