Amoray is a conveniently located dive resort in Key Largo that has great diving first of all, and knowledgeable dive masters and captains who really know the areas. It’s a PADI certified resort and you can acquire your cert and refreshers as well as specialties. Rental gear is all provided and the boat is roomy and fully shaded. Dive resorts have it hard. They have to run a fully geared shop and boat service and crew with all that entails PLUS be resort-y-ish for the non diver in the parties. Amoray strikes a nice balance in between. The pool is heated, clean, gated, and private. There’s a small sandy beach and inlet that has kayaks and paddle boards you can take out. There is a lovely waterfront silky white sandy sun lounge with tiki huts and beach chairs and loungers. The premises are quiet and safe and each suite is well furnished, clean, and comfortable. It’s not the Ritz Carlton and there’s no spa or dedicated camera room but the suite has plenty of open counter space for your gear. There’s a food truck permanently parked in front open early and all day serving pretty decent strong coffee and breakfast and food. The front office area has SOME dive gear for sale - not a lot. Housekeeping is low key and able to help with the everything. Like I was freezing after my dive and asked for several blankets after the day. They came in with three smart little fleece blankets! The dive sites are pretty weather specific but if it’s good, you can see a lot of wildlife. Nurse and reef sharks, barracuda, rays, moray eels, lobsters, turtles, as well as wrecks a plenty even in the shallower dives. The boat can accommodate all levels of divers and my husband did a deep wreck dive on the fabled Spiegel. The coral was a little washed out/bleached in areas which is sad but intact. There’s a free ocean cleanup dive which is fun. I enjoyed the Elbow reef and Hannah Bell wreck a lot. All our dives were less than 33 ft so it felt weird to have no safety stop but also convenient. These dive masters leave you more or less independent to swim around as you wish, and I think you have to pay extra for a private dive guide. I had a refresher which was really a one on one refresher with task demonstrations which I learned a lot of new info, from Rob. If I were to include some minor suggestions they would be to have three or so light wall hooks in the dive center showers so you can hang your towel, room key, etc. and the rooms would really benefit from a kitchen shear and one steak knife. The beds and linens were great and the AC is great. There is a Publix grocery and TJ Maxx on Tarpin Blvd about 5 min south. Lots of quirky restaurants nearby. Tipping is best with cash but they do Venmo too. A lovely gem of a resort that has the best low key unpretentiousness of a dive shop while also comfortable enough to relax and read in a hammock by the water if that’s your jam! We’d definitely come back. My husband really appreciated January as the dive master on...
Read moreCame down to the keys for a long weekend, being there for a wedding already, why not stay a few extra days! Overall the place is super cute and what I expected coming down to the keys. Though the rooms were nice and the property was fantastic, there were some downsides.
PROs: the rooms are decently large. I stayed in a small apartment mainly for the kitchenette so I wouldn't have to worry about going out to eat every night. There was a full size refrigerator as well as a stove and microwave with tons of cabinet space. The room also had plenty of extra pillows and blankets which is a huge plus because I love sleeping in the freezing cold with tons of blankets. (Crazy, I know) the air unit worked amazing! Kept the room super cold and it was refreshing on the hot days. The pool area was pretty much surrounded by trees along with another building which was perfect for those super windy days. We were still able to hangout and catch a tan without being freezing or worrying about our belongings blowing away. The beach/cove was lovely as well. There were some chairs in a drop down cove which also had the same effect as the pool with the wind blocking, but the upper part which almost seemed like more of a dock with sand over it was beautiful on the not so windy days. There's tons of chairs lined up looking over the gulf. It truly is a pretty site to lay around and hangout for the day.
CONS: if you are staying anywhere at this resort, i highly highly HIGHLY recommend staying in an upstairs room or apartment. The floors are EXTREMELY thin and you can basically hear anyone talking or coughing through the floor. Unfortunately I had the worst upstairs neighbors with the loudest elephant feet and least amount of consideration for anyone around them. (Slamming doors and throwing things around) There was no sleeping past 6 am for us. Also the room service was in their room around 730-8am on the dot every morning SLIDING and BANGING everything possible into the walls and all over the floors. As someone that truly cherishes their sleep I was not happy. It sounded like a hockey game on the tile floor above our room.
The burners on our stove all were not working the first day as well as our fan making an obnoxious clinking sound, this was a super easy and hassle free fix with the staff. They went down and fixed it all up right away! That was a nice plus, especially being someone that travels quite often and knows how you have to track someone down just to get them to come look at what's wrong in your room.
All I can say is you're traveling to the keys to not be in your hotel room/apartment the whole time. The place overall really was pleasant and the staff was super friendly and tried to make your stay as great as possible. You get what...
