I was super excited to sit down and eat great food with great service while watching the fireworks on the fourth of July however I was highly disappointed in what we ended up with. My family and I reserved a table for 6 over a month ago specifically for the fourth of July. We get to Sundowners 15 minutes before our reservation, they go to sit us outside at a table that had a beautiful view however was directly next to the speaker of the band that was playing. That would have been too loud to converse and enjoy our meal together. We asked if we could get moved to one of the other 3 tables that were outside and far enough away from the speaker and band. They told us they can’t do that but they have a table in the front. The table in the front is underneath a tent with pop up chairs right next to the parking lot. We weren’t happy with that especially with the fact that we’ve had these reservations for over a month and wanted to watch the view of fireworks and boats that were on the water. So whatever we deal with it, we order our drinks and appetizers and everything was fine. We go to order our entrees and we decide we don’t want to eat we will just get our bill and move to another spot so we can see the water. We had to ask 8 times for our bill. We asked the first time and waited for about 20 minutes, after that we kept going up to the two servers who were serving our table and 2 of the managers of the restaurant and we still couldn’t get our bill. The servers didn’t know what we ordered drinks or food wise, so we all had to then name off every single thing we got. Mind you this entire time those three other tables that were open were still open by the time we left, the manager then tells me they cancelled they’re reservation 20 minutes ago. So the table that was here 15 minutes early couldn’t have gotten that table after they haven’t showed up even 15 minutes after their set reservation time? Okay. So to let everyone know apparently they’re grace period here for a reservation is over an hour, take your time if you have a reservation they’ll wait on you!! It’s so unfortunate that the service and the people who run the place are terrible at their jobs because I will say the appetizers we ordered were delicious so good job to the cooks who are the only people who know how to do their job apparently! This place used to be really good but the new owners of it have a terrible way of...
Read moreThis was a surprise. We have been here before but, this time we were disappointed beyond anything we have tried in all of Key Largo. The first courses was the only saving grace today. The shrimp escargot were good. Then the entrees came out. It was early in the evening so we were eating light. The wife choose the chicken Cobb style salad and I got the pork bowl. I never would say this about another cook or chef butbI think they tried to make the food bad and hard to eat. The pork tasted like it was cooked many days in advance, mashed into a puree, place on an unwashed broiler plate, kept in storage for days to absorb the unique flavors of OLD and Rotting meat. Then the plate of mashed food was placed in the oven to heat up and as it heated a crisp crust of hardened dry pork formed over the top-(think of a fried egg that had been burn to a harden crisp in a saute pan). They must have scooped this up and placed it on the plate with over cooked rice and black beans that were spiced with a handful of chilies. This was mine dinner. The salad my wife ordered was with grilled chicken. The chicken was obviously butterflies open (to make it so thin it resembled jerky) to reduce cooking time and marked on the grill and then placed on the same old broiler plate to warm up in the oven, I had a bite of her chicken to see if it tasted as bad as my dish and had the nasty old rotten food taste on the outside as well.
Needless to say we ate around the dishes of food that did not have the main proteins in those bites. The ranch dressing on the salad was okay and we picked through the pre-cook and soggy undercooked bacon and tiny chopped canned red bell peppers.
Portion sizes were ok. But I think for these prices we could have had freshly...
Read moreI had to take one star off unfortunately because of how we were received at the entrance tonight. A few days ago, i called twice to make reservation, the second time was to make sure i’d get a nice table by the water. I was told i would for sure no problem. When we arrived tonight this “ blonde” lady received us asking if there was a reservation i said yes at 6pm and my name. Absolutely nothing was on my name. Thankfully they did have one table left for that time and not even a sorry or else. I then told her about the nice table and her response was” yeah no that we don’t have” i mean ok mistakes happens but not even a sorry or anything. I was quite upset as you can imagine. Thanks for her we were in second line so we did got to have quite a nice view but not what was promised days ago. NOW, i do have to say that everything else was absolutely perfect. Our waitress was very nice, attentive and responsive. She did not rush us into ordering all at once like they usually do in other places. I would not recommend the mojito key lime, it was not sweet at all and very strong. On the other hand, The food was absolutely delicious, every single plates! I would say my favorite was the starter -tostones with shrimp-!!! Fried calamari was amazing, and we both got the lobster, shrimp, blue crab pasta with tabasco( my husband got some rice instead) and it was on point, not too spicy just perfect👌🏻 And to finish the Key lime pie is usually something i dislike but this one was delish!! Honestly great experience if we can pass the fact that they did not took my reservation or cared for it at all, but that is on that lady in the entrance.
Parking was pretty bad but it’s Saturday so.. I would still come...
