The property and surrounding areas are gorgeous and the staff was nice enough!
My review is constructive & informative and hopefully management & other travelers will take it as such!
My husband and I stayed here for the last leg of our honeymoon! We booked 5 nights. We left on the second night and drove home.
When we arrived, we had a ton of bags to haul into this old barn that a dolly definitely didn’t fit in, although it was cold outside it was stuffy and warm inside, 75 degrees and stuffy! The AC wouldn’t go on. Only the heat. We asked the woman at the front desk about it and she said her manager had informed her that one room can’t use AC because the whole property had the heater on. AC is an amenity promised by the hotel and far from a luxurious amenity provided the price per night.
I have an autoimmune disorder and I’m pretty heat sensitive. Plus, I feel like if I’m paying for a hotel I shouldn’t have to justify my desire to use a promised amenity!
She asked if we wanted to switch rooms to see if we’d be cooler, we agreed though it didn’t make a huge difference.
The sound proofing was non existent, we heard every noise coming from the lobby. It really felt like we were staying in someone’s house, not a luxury hotel.
The bathroom window is glued shut so it cannot be opened. There’s a sliding farmhouse style door on the bathroom that can’t be locked and you can hear everything going on in there. Our sink screamed every time it turned on?! There were also black/brown water splashes on the sink and brown water leaking from the hotel vents. The shower looks accessible but the shower seat is tiny & curves forward, making it inaccessible unless you hold yourself up by the bars. Also there’s not really a great drain so the water from the shower gets everywhere including the carpet right outside the bathroom. No shelves or bars for the towels, they were laid out on the bed when we got there?
No microwave or coffee machine in the room, though there were two fridges and only one worked. Nice coffee/tea stations in the main lobby and on the 2nd floor which were lovely.
The space between the bed and desk was too narrow for a standard manual wheelchair so thankfully, I’m ambulatory and just folded it every time I had to pass but it’s weird and annoying considering it seemed like an otherwise accessible room.
Bar and restaurant seemed to not exist on the property as advertised. I mean I saw the bar but it wasn’t operational. Staff leaves at 10pm. They give you an emergency number to call after hours. On our second night we went down to make tea and was met with a pitch black lobby. Noped my way right back to our room!
This place has huge potential!!! Again, the views are gorgeous and the property is beautiful!! I don’t know if it’s just being mismanaged, under new management or what but I would not recommend staying here until these issues are addressed. Some of these issues are small but the no AC rly sent me lol and all the other ones just made for an uncomfy experience! A real bummer to an otherwise awesome several weeks in beautiful Vermont!
+1 while seemingly remote, you can still order Taco Bell on UberEats since it’s close to Rutland. I cried into my...
Read moreCan't beat the location & amenities, but I'll wait to visit again til management changes, which happens about every 2 years here.
The manager Joseph is openly profit focused. I went to discuss 2-3 future stays & he went about how the previous management didn't care about profit, & he doesn't need to make deals bc he doesn't have to. All I asked for was pricing info.
Joseph & his staff have strange ways of approaching & interacting w guests. They're unfriendly, pretentious & have off-putting energy.
When I booked it was dog friendly. The day before checking in, I saw they changed to only allow service dogs. They are, but I prefer to stay where dogs are allowed. I don't feel comfortable being singled out bc I am protected by the ADA.
Our first morning, a woman approached our car, w/ out introducing herself, asks what room we are staying in. I ask, “why?”. She says we need to change rooms bc of the dogs. I have no idea who she is. She says ok talk to the manager. So I meet Joseph. He barely looked at me during our conversation.
He asked if they're service dogs, I said yes. W/out looking at me, he said “we're all set". I said the way the woman approached me made me uncomfortable. His response was to ask me again, zero eye contact, if they're service animals, and with zero eye contact dismisses me with we are "all set”.
I felt uncomfortable. Besides, we took effort to never let the dogs pee near buildings, carried them through the main building, they wore diapers inside, & we covered the floors with pee pads, just in case. We left the bed made, garbage & recyclables separated, after a 4 night stay, we left the room immaculate.
No eye contact & barely a goodbye when checking out. 2 hours later, Joseph called to accuse us of urine on the carpet. I said there's no way, we want to come inspect. He said ok, but they already cleaned it. When I got upset at this continued mistreatment, he jumped to cry that I yelled at him.
They are dishonest & don’t expect to be treated as a human being or a visitor, you are just dollar...
Read moreMy husband and I chose Mountain Meadows for our wedding. I could not express how incredibly happy my husband and I were with our wedding at Mountain Meadows. All of our guests have raved about how this was either one of the best or the best wedding they have attended. Bill, Anne, Dave and Lauren made our day absolutely incredible and provided an incredibly personal, tailored, genuine, hands on approach. The venue itself is beautiful with classic Vermont scenery, and offers a ton of outdoor activities. My husband and I did a lot of items ourselves to save money and personalize our day, and the staff helped us every step of the way (like how we needed wire cutters to cut the pins in the flower bouquets at the last minute, they helped us plan the course for the 5k race we hosted the day of the wedding, they helped me coordinate table linens when we decided to provide our own, we had intricate center pieces that the staff put together beautifully etc).
The staff were incredibly professional and yet so friendly and personal it felt like we were being hosted by close friends or family. Bill crafted an amazing meal, cooked just inside the lodge (which was personalized to our taste and needs for some special diets). This meal tasted far better than other (more expensive) meals I have had at weddings, where you know the food is overcooked and obviously prepared ahead of time. The staff took care of all of the details and coordinated the wedding so effectively there was absolutely no stress or burden on my husband and I. By the end of the weekend I was actually sad at the realization that I had not captured a picture with the staff who had made our weekend so perfect.
I highly encourage anyone who is interested in a rustic outdoor Vermont wedding, who want a classic yet family style approach to their wedding to book with Mountain Meadows. My husband and I feel incredibly lucky to have found Mountain Meadows for our wedding and would not have changed anything about...
