There are five-star hotels. There are incredible B&B’s. But none of those compare at all to the Victorian Lantern in Kingman, Kansas. As a young girl I used to drive by this home and always thought “This is such a beautiful old house. If only someone would come in and revive it, it could be so much more.” Well, the Rowland family (Dave and Rayma) did just that and now this stately Victorian home is restored to its greatness…actually, probably so much better now…and it is a wonderfully comfy, cozy, homey home away from home. I had the opportunity to stay here for two weeks, so that would be sufficient time to discover anything “wrong”. There is nothing wrong with this place. NOTHING. When you drive up, it is inviting and the attention to detail totally draws you in. Once inside, you are taken back into time in the best way. It is thoughtfully decorated…beautiful Victorian furniture, the original sturdy woodwork all throughout the house, stained-glass windows, lace curtains, claw-foot tubs, inviting and amazingly comfortable beds, soothing showers, the coziest fireplace to enjoy a glass of wine by or simply to just relax…I could go on and on. But to me what made my stay better than literally any other place I have ever stayed was the owner, Rayma Rowland. Rayma is that person that you feel you have been friends with all your life. She is soft-spoken, thoughtful, an incredibly talented cook, but most importantly, she honestly cares about every single person who steps through her door. Her and her husband spent countless hours/days/years revamping this gem of a home, and Rayma will tell you that while the house means a lot to her, it is her customers who mean even more. I can’t imagine this home without her. Her presence makes your stay. She will check on you if you need anything, will chat if you wish, will get to know you and your family, but she doesn’t pry and is not overbearing. She simply wants for your stay to be a pleasant one, and she will bend over backwards to make that happen. I stayed here while enduring a difficult time in my life, and Rayma and this beautifully-restored home were my saving grace. I didn’t want to leave! I hope everyone gets the chance to stay here. You will put this place at the top of your list and you will always want to come back. The comfort, delicious food (she is the BEST cook) cleanliness, attention to detail will draw you in…but it is the thoughtfulness and true generosity of a sweet soul named Rayma who will make your stay the best you’ve ever experienced. It is a place...
Read moreWe came to Kingman for a concert in the historic theater downtown and were looking for B&B options. Wow, we were so blessed to stay at the Victorian Lantern! Everything was just perfect, which is a rarity these days. The house is beautifully appointed, our room was simply wonderful, and my goodness - the breakfast was to die for! We stayed in the Elizabeth Ann room and that bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in - much better than what we have at home. Rayma is the most gracious and warm host you could ask for. She was there to greet us upon arrival, show us around, answer our questions and make us feel right at home. She recommended options for dinner (we ate at Jeri's and the food was on point). Rayma had coffee ready for us at 6am, as we are early risers. Breakfast was so filling - yogurt/fruit, french toast, farm fresh eggs, ham......every bite was beyond divine! We will be back for more concerts in the future (the theater is a leisurely 7 minute walk away) and this will be the only place we will stay. Rayma went above and beyond to make our first experience in Kingman...
Read moreThis was our second time staying at the Victorian Lantern and we can’t wait for our next trip already! Last year we were upstairs and this year downstairs in the Elizabeth Anne room. It was my husband, myself, our 1 month old daughter and 1.5 year old labradoodle named Max. The room was very spacious and we felt right at home from the moment we walked into the house! And I can’t forget about breakfast….FANTASTIC!!!!! Like I said before, can’t wait until...
