We used to occasionally come here and typically had decent B to B+ food and experience. Flatbreads used to be good and the steaks were palatable enough that I wasn't afraid to recommend them to folks we were with. The place now lacks the pinch of class that it used to have and its obvious that there is no concept in understanding the science or art of food among the staff, much less pride in what leaves the kitchen to be served to guests. I always get a sinking feeling as to how the expereince will be when the tonic in my gin tonic is flat (which it was on this occasion). Brussel sprout appetizer was ok, but it was clear the stuff was simply reheated and thrown into a bowl. The flatbread pizza the couple we were with ordered looked very un appetizing and undercooked (cheese was barely melted) and it was obvious there was no standard of care. My wife liked the wild rice soup which we applauded as the feel good moment of the food experience. Against my better judgement I ordered the Confit Chicken - the skin was pale and soggy (no crispiness what so ever) and it slid off the hurriedly cooked and tough meat in patches the way ones skin slides off when they are soaked in the ocean for days on end (so I have read in shipwreck stories). If I had to guess, I would say the chicken was cooked in a hot water bath just long enoigh to get the meat to a safe temp. One anemic peice of limp broccolini was drooped over an exhorbatantly large pile of undercooked potatoes. It was very obvious that there was no standard of care in the kitchen. Unlike in the old days, no manager or chef came around to the table to inquire how the meal or dining expereince was, but then again, why bother when the answer is so...
Read moreMy husband and I went there for a special occasion dinner. Our reservation was at 9 pm, and we were running late so my husband called to let them know. The woman on the phone was very rude, and expressed that the kitchen closes soon, and they were keeping it open for us. We reinforced our gratefulness and hurried to get there! We showed up within 10 min of our reservation time, and the kitchen was completely closed. They had shut it down and refused service to us, telling us this was our fault for being late. As the conversation went on, it was lie after lie. They said they called us, but never did, etc. The kitchen manager came out at one point and noted she didn’t know we had called, so clearly it was poor communication on their end. We spoke to the overall restaurant manager the next day, and she was just as unsympathetic, explaining she has never had anyone show up a few minutes late to a reservation. I find that so hard to believe! It was terribly disappointing for my husband and I. We do not understand why they take 9 pm reservations, if their kitchen closes at 9. They should communicate this is a hard stop and that you need to show up early to your scheduled time, or they should not take bookings at 9 pm. Do not make a late reservation here, and expect to be blamed for any lack in customer service by poor management during your...

Best customer experience at a restaurant I can recall, hands down, ever. After being VERY late for a reservation, the staff graciously accommodated myself and my traveling companion with poise. Our server Cassandra knew the menu well, was prompt, professional, and courteous. (Thank you!)
The food was expertly prepared and beyond delicious, chosen from a menu with several thoughtful gluten free and vegetarian option. The salmon and beef tenderloin were both exceptional, and a return trip for their notoriously savory walleye will be in order.
A minor misunderstanding with a drink order (I’ve been sober for a few years and a mocktail had a little of the good stuff by accident 😵😅) was remedied immediately and without issue. Mock tails were delicious with and without the artisinal Vikre Distillery aquavit.
After dinner we caught the full moon rising over Lake Superior at the gorgeous Larsmont resort (see photo).
If you have the opportunity, treat yourself to likely the best dining experience on Minnesota’s the...
