We are owners for approximately 30 years. We have always had good vacations until this year. We go in Jan. When it's mostly below zero temps. & extreme wind chills at times. We snowmobile (trails were very good) & ice fish (tough going with all the snow/slush). That being said, the main draw for a Jan. vacation is to come back to a warm hot tub. Ok, I'll give some slack that hot tub was down, but almost all of them? & only found out about this '3 days before our vacation & 'only' because I had contacted the office regarding something else. Ok, we'd deal with it. But to come to find out that the fireplace was also not working! & no one let us know this either. What's the big deal, you may be wondering.... it's freezing with a whole wall of windows & if it's below zero temps & if there's lots of wind... which we had both, the furnace can't keep up very well without the fireplace. My husband & son arrived on Fri night & called me Sat. to bring many blankets/throws to be able to hang out in main living area cuz was v.cold. Now to give perspective, I keep temp at home at 65 during day & maybe to 67-68 while watching TV in evenings, so, we can handle cool. They did put new carpet in our unit, looks real nice; but, doesn't keep us warm after snowmobiling or fishing. :) If needed, the Board members could have authorized movement to another unit where things were working for us & other owners. Example, no one was in the connected unit the whole week. I doubt that hot tub & fireplace were not working there & if it was not, then why focus on new carpet. We've been paying maintenance fees plus occasional extras for ~30 years & still original hot tub. & It was brought to the attention of staff (this would have been the 3rd year) that the hot tub was overly loud & the floor in the connecting bedroom would vibrate. I was prepared this year with ear plugs so, I wouldn't have to sleep down on the couch all week, like the past 2 years. Lol, well, that was not a problem since it wasn't running.

Sadly, the furniture was put back on the new installed carpet & one of the chairs created big snags where they pushed it. We put Mt. Dew cardboard under legs, so that it wouldn't get worse after letting the office know. Hopefully, maintenance did something after we checked out. We appreciated maintenance setting up a table for us to clean fish in their garage. Security for indoor pool/workout area should probably be revisited...

The housekeeping was the best we've had in years when arriving at the unit (disregarding some carpet dust, cause literally...it just got put down). We enjoy cooking while we are at Causeway, so, pleasantly surprised with the heavy duty pots & more cooking & baking options than previous years. We love being up in the area. The 2.5 rating was for the most important amenities not available for a winter week & lack of communication/ disclosure from the Board of Directors & no effort to accomodate the situation. 5☆ housekeeping 4☆ maintenance 5☆ checkin & checkout 2.5☆ unit 2☆...

The SPIRAL STAIRS ARE DEADLY!!!!

So, my Mother and I took a break from the cities and we were at the resort #45 for 5 days. I came late. When I arrived Saturday night I Immediately used the Jacuzzi [Extremely worn down, noisy, and dirty]!

So, afterwards I relaxed in my loft room upstairs rest of night.

Late night went to get a drink of juice and slipped down ENTIRE staircase!!! Minus 1st 2 steps.

I Was knocked unconscious with SEVERE injuries!! Immediately noticed the problem! OUTDATED carpeting and padding, and NO RUBBER ON EDGING to prevent slipping (socks/carpet/short steps do NOT mix!)

Made complaint next day, filed report, and manager asked if any alcohol involvement? I says no. She says (with my Mom as a witness): "strange how no one drunk EVER falls, only sober"! So I says so you mean to tell me MANY have fallen without FIXING ISSUE!😡🤬 I got EXTREMELY angry inside, kept calm and said "all you simply needed to do was place rubber on edging", she says "yea, if they will spend the money".😲😢😭

🤦🏾‍♂️So now I am limping the path to healing with 'Inner Light Chiropractic' with MAJOR injuries, and RUINED way of life because of something that COULD'VE been avoided!!!🤬😭

Other than that, GREAT place to stay 🤷🏾‍♂️

Attached are 2 photos. 1 of stairs, other with my artistic design for their HOPEFULLY "MAJOR" remodeling project that should be IMMEDIATELY under way, resort wide, that could've saved my well being, and COULD save YOURS or YOUR LOVED ONES LIFE!

While your at it, maybe replace the outdated carpeting, and swap the beds! After injury had to sleep on couch because of outdated or🤔🙄 CHEAP mattresses!!!😒

Hey Causeway, thx for the AMAZING...

Mainly cons for this place. I’ve stayed at Grandview and it is luxurious, feels like you’re on vacation, and no complaints or issues. Here is the REAL HONEST SCOOP of this resort: both pros and cons bc to say everything is bad would be a very biased review.

CONS:

-My back HURTS after sleeping on the really terrible beds. When you go on vacation you want to feel well rested and excited to sleep. I actually left a day early so I could get back to my own bed ASAP!

-Super scary and dangerous stairs. I personally have not fallen down them but I feel uncomfortable on them and my fiancé has fallen down them twice.

-Squirrels/mice living in walls. Pretty disgusting that you call yourself a resort but have pests? Not only did the painful beds keep me up all night but so did hearing little critters. You go on holiday to relax not come back with absolutely no rest or sleep.

-Outdated look makes you feel bogged down. Doesn’t have a cute welcoming feel that makes you want to cozy up in the cabin.

-No WiFi

PROS:

-Location is great

-Big and spacious

-Hot tub & fireplace

-Backyard with your own space

Overall I don’t think I would recommend to anyone bc even if you are a hard sleeper or have no body pain to manage the rock hard beds/other cons, the stairs are still a major problem & may seriously injure someone.

Sorry Causeway but you guys really have some work to do. I had a lovely time being in Brainerd with my family but getting no sleep made my vacation draining. That is NOT the way you want guests to feel who you host. Please look at your problems and...

I've been going up to Causeway for more than 30 years. We own two weeks up there (six months apart) and we're extremely happy with them. Only disappointing thing is their lack of wi-fi in the units and their no-pet policy. The no-pet policy is understandable (legitimate service and emotional support animals are exempt), but the wi-fi is something that will need to be addressed eventually. **2022 Edit: There is a problem with the in-unit hot tubs that has forced the shutdown of all tubs. Be aware that this amenity is not currently available. ***2025 Edit: Fiberoptic Wi-Fi should be available January 1 2026. Hot tubs are gone and nothing in their place yet.

Stayed here for a week in January, it was very quiet and a great cabin! The four season porch with the large hot tub was a huge bonus for us. The front desk staff was very helpful with places to go in the area ( Bar Harbor and Cru were great), and they had a great free selection of movies, games, and XC skis to check out. We will definitely be back!
