We stayed at Lost Lake Lodge for one week in June for a family vacation. This was our first time staying here as we usually go to the Good Ol’ Days but wanted to try something different this year. When we arrived the first thing we noticed is that the property does not seem to very well kept. All of the grass was very long and the landscaping was not well maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful at check-in. We rented cottage #2 which is a pet friendly 3 level cottage with 3 bedrooms, a loft, 3 bathrooms, 2 living rooms, a kitchen, and a screened in porch. The cabin was very spacious which was nice as there was 7 of us and 3 small dogs. The cabin was clean but we noticed some issues right away including multiple light bulbs out, no lock on the basement bathroom door, multiple kitchen cabinets loose, multiple faucet handles so loose they would come off the sink, the pool cue holder was coming off the wall, the deck railing was broken, the kitchen wall had lots of scuffs, the flooring had massive gaps, and the fridge water filter needed to be replaced so the fridge would beep constantly. Staff was notified of all of the issues and they fixed some of them the next day but they never replaced the fridge filter and would not replace the door handle on the basement bathroom with one that locks. The first night we all discovered the beds were not very comfortable. We enjoyed that the lodge was on the Gull Lake Narrows which gives you access to numerous lakes to fish. There is a boat access just down the road and the lodge has docks to keep your boat at while staying at the resort. Zorbaz is also just down the road or lake from the lodge. The lodge also has its own Heritage Lake Lost Lake. It is owned by the lodge and there are no motors allowed on it. The lodge advertises they have kayaks, canoes, and row boats to use for free. There were only a couple of these down at the lake and there were no oars available. We checked with the front desk and the employee said they should be down by the lake and he didn’t know where they were. The swimming beach on Lost Lake was in poor condition and the swimming area was very weedy as it was clear the lodge had not removed any weeds. There is only one fire pit down by the lake for the entire lodge which we found odd as most places have several near the cabins. There is a place called “Harry’s Garage” near the lake that is advertised with arcade games and recreational games. This building was an absolute dump and was not maintained well. Half of the games did not even work and the building was very dirty and is not some place I would imagine anyone would want to hang out in. One night while we were staying at the lodge there was a wedding going on and staff never notified guests of this ahead of time as it made several areas of the property and restaurant closed for the event. They have a restaurant and bar on site but it is only open Friday-Sunday 4-9pm. We ate at the restaurant one night and thought the food was overpriced and not that good. Most of us got the walleye and it was dry and did not have any flavor and was not worth $30. In comparison to the Good Ol’ Days we thought the cottage itself was larger and nicer than the the cottages at Good Ol’ Days however it was more expensive and the overall lodge and facilities were not well maintained and were not as nice as at the Good Ol’ Days. It was not a horrible stay we just felt there are better places we could go that take care of their facilities for the money. We will probably keep staying at the Good Ol’ Days Resort...

Read moreFirst, I'll say that we really enjoy our time at Lost Lake Lodge as it WAS one of our favorite places to vacation. And, we expected our most recent weekend stay to be no different.
We booked cabin 5A on a bit of a last-minute decision to get away. But, I received a call on Thursday stating that they'd double booked that cabin and that they'd "upgrade" us to cabin 15. Totally fine. Looked at cabin 15 on the website and see that it doesn't have a lake view but, even though that wasn't mentioned in the conversation, not a deal breaker.
We arrive Friday evening, check in, and then we enter an unfinished cabin. unfinished repairs have been made to several places in the sheetrock and a few places in the ceilings; the walls look to be unfinished in many of the corners; the hair dryer in the master bathroom was removed from the wall but not the caddy and was placed in the cabinet; the kitchen ceiling is not finished and the light over the sink doesn't cover the hole for the fixture the shower head in the master bathroom is loose; the floors are covered in drywall dust; in the 2nd bathroom, there were handprints on the wall and shoe prints on the floor no dresser, wardrobe or TV in either bedroom Bottom line is that had we known that this was an unfinished cabin, for the nightly cost, we would have made a different decision. Side note: Cabin 15 DOES NOT like the cabin on the website.
We emailed the office Friday, right after we arrived, and spoke to a much less than caring person at the front desk. I sent two more emails before I received this reply:
"We’re sorry you had a bad experience and were uncomfortable with the lodging. The cabin typically rents for $400 a night, so we believed this would be an appropriate upgrade, as our one-bedroom rate is $300 a night. A number of the complaints were cosmetic in nature and should not have impacted your stay in the unit, however, we will refund $200 to the credit card on file."
Cosmetic? Should not have impacted my stay? Seriously? Yeah, we'll not be staying here again. There are MUCH nicer resorts...
