I really do not know where to start. I’ve dreamed of my wedding day all my life, never thought it would happen at all, or turn out as AMAZING as it did! Kevin and I originally had a different venue we were set on, on a whim we decided to walk in Lakeside Resorts and just check it out, that’s when we met Brooklyn, after 5 minutes I said, “we are getting married here, this lady is amazing,”. Brooklyn has a gift and I’ll always remember how she made me felt that day and still. So we talked it over and the decision was a no brainer! Throughout the process she was very attentive to any concerns, questions, and me just being a nervous wreck! The food, it was phenomenal, and they had dietary accommodations for any special request, vegan for 2 of our guests, gluten free options for others, everyone no matter what their dietary restrictions were, was able to enjoy a great meal, and an amazing spread. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Back to the top, she returned every phone call, and I called a lot, (it was my wedding I was a nervous wreck). She talked to my aunt and my husband kept in contact with all of us via email, call, or when we went there to dine if she was there and had a moment she always checked to make sure we were doing ok! When I say this was my dream come true for our wedding I literally honest to god mean it. And if it weren’t for Brooklyn first off I doubt we would have been able to decide so quickly. As she assured me, everything went absolutely perfect, even though it was windy and freezing they still set up outside for us to have our ceremony, that was my dream. Others tried to get me to call it and bring it inside, but she asked what I really wanted and she delivered tenfold! , ( I recommend really getting to know who the person, minister or ordained person you choose, we should have asked her, we didn’t know, we didn’t go with her recommendation on that choice.)Every recommendation from her was a pure blissful amazing experience, the Dj the Photography etc. Anything that could have gone wrong didn’t!! Every important moment she was there keeping it together and being the rock star that got me out down the aisle with ease, now the thing is everything was so perfect I keep reliving the moments, the view is breathtaking, the staff was fun awesome and very attentive to all our guests and us. The large suite was perfect for me and my brides ladies to get ready and have fun while doing it, I can’t really describe how having our wedding be such a priority to the venue and her meant to us! She helped fulfill my dream and I tear up while looking back at how special and spectacular everything was. If you are thinking and debating on a venue for a wedding or any sort of party I strongly recommend The Lakeside Resort! My dreams came true with family, friends, and a venue with staff so accommodating to us and all of our guests! We were treated like people not dollar signs, even after we had paid in full we were still the priority of the day! Pure magic! I’d do it all over again just to be back on that day! So should you? Or - Shouldn’t you? ABSOLUTELY SHOULD! I can’t thank everyone enough for turning my dream into a reality. Read moreI was really excited to spend the weekend out on Houghton Lake with my family. I sold my husband on the place as there was a water park AND a beach so if the weather wasn’t great we could still be entertain our daughter with the water park. I called the night before checkin to see if they could accommodate early check in and they said it shouldn’t be a problem but we’d need to call in the morning to secure it. We left metro Detroit leaving around 10am and called the hotel around 11am to see if we could check in around 12:30 and was told check in was 3pm and that’s when our room would be ready. Strike 1- don’t tell me the day before they should be able to accommodate us and not do it.
Strike 2- While we were waiting we used the lobby bathroom. Based on the appearance alone it should have been closed. No mirror, no soap, no paper towel. Only a toilet. It looked like they could have been remodeling. Again, they should have just closed it or remodeled before Memorial Day weekend as i assume there when busy season starts.
Strike 3- While waiting they did however give us wristbands to the water park. Hoping to pass some time we walked in and it looked like a run down mini waterpark which consisted of a lazy river, hot tub and a water slide. Let’s start with the lazy river- it was infested with dead flies. Not sure how that’s even possible seeing as tho it’s a indoor pool. The lazy river was broken so t was just free standing water. I took it upon myself to start skimming it. I had to shake it off multiple times for just the little area in front of me. They should have just drained the pool and start over because it was that gross. Moving on to the water slide. It was missing a important piece to make it function....WATER. It broke early in on our stay. Nasty non functioning lazy river and no water water slide = should be shut down water park.
Strike 4- like I mentioned earlier- I sold my husband on this place based on being beachfront. Granted it is waterfront, I would not call this a beachfront resort. We have a daughter that was looking forward to building sand castles and walking in and out of the war from the beach. That did not happen. They did have a VERY small beach on the side of the building that could hold maybe 4 chairs but it wasn’t my idea of a beach front. On top of that it was trashed with trash, a tire, and just junk.
The only saving grace was the room wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be. We were supposed to stay the weekend but after a few attempts to get out of it, they finally agreed to refund our second night. Read moreWe paid for a family suite for two nights. Upon checkin we found that the bunk bed in the second room of the family suite was swaying back and forth when my kids tried to climb up to the second bunk. My husband a builder looked at it and found the screws were all falling out. I called down to the front desk and she said maintenance could come the next day to fix it but not tonight it was at 8pm then. She said she'd switch us rooms so we had enough beds. We switched down the hall we got all moved in and I started checking around them and found the light switches didn't work and there were spider webs with spiders on it above the beds. As if it hadn't been used in sometime. I called back down to request it be cleaned. She said nobody was there to do that she was alone. I went down to speak to her and tell her if these were only options we were leaving with a full refund. She said she could cancel our second night but bc we've been in these rooms so couldn't refund the 1st. I asked to speak to a manager or owner neither of which could be called at home. She said the manager would be in at 9am the next morning and I could voice my concerns. She suggested she'd move us back to the 1st room and she'd come try to fix the bed shortly. I explained she needed a Allen wrench per what my husband said and she didn't have one but said she'd try. We to the pool while she tried to fix it our teenage son stayed in the room. She wasn't able to tighten it one bit so it wasn't safe to sleep in. The biggest kicker was she came in our room without a mask with my son there and stayed sometime. That was the final icing on the cake. The pool was fun for the kids but the paint was chipping everywhere and in the pool, hot tub, etc. We were seriously worried about our kids eating paint if a bit of water goes in there mouth going down the slide. So we left the pool area after a very short visit.
We checked out early the next morning. The new girl at the desk was very apologetic she said she felt horrible. she tried calling the manager at home it was 830am and was told she was at home she'd call me later. There were also several complaints about cleanliness while I stood waiting at the desk. The manager called about 11am and said the rooms haven't been used recently. Apologized and gave us $100 refund but still a standard room was cheaper than that . Very disappointed wouldn't never return and never...
