Stayed here on 10/27/2023 in room 140, a Queen bed with a jet tub.
The parking lot has a few pot holes around the storm drains and the concrete in the walking path is broken and flaking away. Their was a Chrysler Pacifica (crossover) in the parking lot with a flat tire right by the lobby and it looks like it has been sitting their for a bit.
The lady working (Brandy?) was friendly and check in went fine. The lobby has a few chairs and a couch with a tv. Typical hotel lobby with information of stuff in the area. Looked clean and kept up. The check in / check out sign behind the counter was blocked by a bunch of stuff piled up.
After check in I walked the length of the building inside to get to the rear where my room was. Hotel has new carpeting, or at least clean carpeting, in the hallways. This was a good impression of what to expect until I noticed the amount of cobwebs on each hall light on the walls as I walked to my room.
In my room, first impressions was its clean and decent. Sheets clean, room clean and the vinyl fake wood floor looked fine. Checked the mattress and it was clean. (I always check for bedbugs). Jet tub next to bed was clean looking and worked fine. Bathroom was clean. Nothing stood out.
When shower time came I discovered the exhaust fan worked for 3 seconds and stopped spinning, but just hummed. That is a fire hazard if left on. This caused the room to get warm. The AC unit took a while to cool the room as cold air only came out of half the unit.
Used the jet tub. Plenty of hot water in this place. Never had an issue getting hot water, but the place didn't seam to be booked with a lot of people ether, so take that for what its worth. As expected, water got on the floor, so after drying off took a towel and wiped the floor and what I found was disgusting. The white towel was dirty... very dirty. Like the floor haven't been mop in a long time. I bet they use a Swiffer duster and not an actual mop and bucket. My feet were dirty from walking on the floor.
The bed. It sucked. If I didn't look at it before I'd swear it was a sheet of 1/2" plywood I was laying on. I know Super 8 is a budget motel chain, but I think the dirt/grass outside my window would have been softer to sleep on.
As I was laying in the bed, I noticed a red spot on the ceiling. Was it ketchup? Maybe some hot sauce? Probably blood. I don't know. I didn't lick it. But you could hear whoever was in the room above as the ceiling must be wood beams... At one point I thought a bowling ally was above me.
Lighting in the room was fine, I guess. All daylight bright LED bulbs. Not soft white or warm. And they had standard bulbs in 3 way sockets as you hand to turn the know twice to turn it on and again twice to turn them off.
TV.... worked. No fancy menu system. Just straight cable.
Wifi..... FAST! I pulled 90+Mbps down and 50+Mpbs up. Most hotels throttle you.... not here. Its open for the taking.
Check out was simple enough. But the lady working, different from the night before, seamed to not enjoy her job or not want to be there. She was just in a bad mood / had a poor attitude.
The rear door was propped open most of the time even though a sign said not to do that. Several blind spots for the camera system in that part of the hallway.
I don't think I'll stay here again based on the concrete slab for a bed and how dirty the floor...
Read moreThis super 8 should be ashamed of itself. After a house fire that completely leveled a multi family house, that had three separate units, one unit for mom and partner, one for daughter with New Born and here partner, and the third unit for Mom's brother. So not 1 family but three separate families. The Red cross was very helpful. (The red cross is tied in with the super 8)But they treated all of us as one house hold , at first putting 6 people in one room. Yes great where out of the cold, but all in shock of what just happened and mom who had lost the most was mentally checked out ( not a harm to self or other) so after began and pleading with super 8 we got a nother room. Well the manager and staff are talking and looking down at these Three separate house holds like they were trying to get one over on them because we needed two rooms (really the red cross should have handled it as there separate cass) so after making us feel like we're trying to run some scam, they aloud a nother room. Still people had to sleep on floor. Not complaining!!! very much appreciated of the help.. The next day the manager was watching through the security cameras at mom who is still in shock ( not in her right mind) not bothering a sole going back and forth from the room to outside too smoke the manager said he was watching her,in the lobby Mom was having a meeting with people that were going to assessed with aid for a few more nights at the super 8 the manager seeing mom is not in room and busy he had a maid that was cleaning at the other end of motel come to (clean) with no one in the room and the no housekeeping sign hanging. After the maid leaves. The manager comes in the lobby and in front of the lady that is going to help. He rudely says that she is smoking in the room and he has proof. So now everyone is in the bathroom of the first room looking at a little black spot behind the toilet which the manager claims to be a cigarette Ash . (Not that I smell ,or smelled cigarette smoke). Not being able to prove that black spot as Ashe's because it was not, no one had smoked in that room. After not being able to prove his false case. He took the Lady that was there to help, into a private room and lid to this lady . What ever was said to her she had a look of discuss on her face as she walked past the three separate house holds, that were in true need of help and she left . Then this manager proceeded to kick everyone out, his reasoning was in the second room there was a couple boxes of donations some one brought. The manager stated it was a fire hazard and we had to go. Super 8 who is contracted with red cross to help families that are homeless after a house fire. Has a manager that is so evil that 1 day after these families Lost everything. This manager down right lid stopping any more aid kicked three greff struck family out of a red cross paid room 2 days early. It's been awhile since this happened and super 8...
Read moreFirst off, I have worked in the hotel industry and I know that it is hard work but reviews are necessary at times.
You will not find a midlevel or upscale hotel chain in the Grayling, Roscommon, or Houghton Lake areas. One might consider a mom and pop instead.
My husband and I stayed here for four nights. Upon walking in we noticed that the lobby was nicely decorated with souvenirs that you could purchase. This hotel has an indoor pool with a sauna and a hot tub. The room was what you would expect from a hotel of this price range, it does have a small refrigerator and a microwave. The breakfast is served continental style. You might want to consider shopping at the local grocery if you want something hot for breakfast.
The room was a bit dusty and the bathroom could have been cleaned a little better. After checking in, my husband and I drove to the local grocery to pick up my own cleaning items and needless to say I did give the bathroom a good wipe down once back at the hotel.
Twice, we had issues with the plumbing in our room. I went down and spoke with the front desk agent and both times I was handed a plunger wrapped in a plastic bag to handle the issue myself.
We requested housekeeping one time. I’ve worked front office in the hotel industry before and I know what can go on behind closed doors. So, prior to my husband and I leaving on the day we requested housekeeping, I took pictures with my cellphone of our belongings. When we arrived back later that night I looked at our luggage and then the pictures that I took and noticed not only were our bags placed differently but the handles and zippers were not in the same position I had left them. Yes, I placed them in an unusual fashion for moments like this. I went through our belongings and didn’t notice anything missing, though I could have been wrong. If you stay here, I would recommend purchasing locks for your luggage and using them. Even though I had proof someone was in our personal belongings I decided not to report it, I know most times it is “he said, she said”, so a review...
