My husband and I traveled to Lander a couple of weeks ago for work. We're musicians and we played at the Maverick Lounge. Our employer placed us at the Frontier Lodge, which is part of the same ownership group as the bar and restaurant.||||It was a one-night engagement, and since we were quite busy, we didn't spend much time in the room, but the main priorities were covered, which was a comfortable bed, clean bathroom and quiet during the night. The room wasn't huge by any means, but the decor was typical western kitsch with quilty-looking comforters and log style bed frames. I liked the wood cut-out decorations on the walls above the beds, which you'll also find all over the place on the exterior. The room looked to have been recently painted, and as other posters have alluded to, had a large flat-screen TV, as well as a microwave and mini-fridge. Their wi-fi was nice and fast, too. No coffee maker or hair dryer though. ||||Inconveniences endured were relatively minor. You can park in front of ground floor rooms, but the parking area is really small. Good luck if you have to turn around for any reason. There is a back exit, but only has 7' clearance. There is a larger alternate parking area across the street from the bar and restaurant. Also, the rooms do face the rear of the bar and restaurant, so employees on smoke breaks, empty kegs, etc. are in plain view. The latter are smoker-friendly, and all that that implies. ||||Our gig went well, we made lots of new friends and when it came time to crash, we both slept like logs. The Frontier Lodge is one of the more reasonably priced motels in Lander, so if we ever had to pass through and pay rack rate, we'd have no...

Read moreSince we ate at the attached restaurant (good), we decided to take a chance and stay at the lodge, too. Our first room on the first floor was terrible; no housekeeping evident, with what appeared to be fecal matter on the toilet seat, tissues in the wastebasket, and a funky smell to the room. After complaining, we were given another room on the second floor that apparently had been recently redone. Much better, even if it wasn't a particularly good remodel job. Both rooms opened onto the courtyard, which, as others have noted, serves as the back of the restaurant. That second room was quiet and comfortable, but after seeing the first, we were left with an uncomfortable feeling in general. || While we love staying at older motels, you definitely take your chances. We're heartened to see people trying to make a go of it, and realize that it's a tough job bringing an older place up to modern expectations, but there are some minimum standards. We really don't mind too much seeing a row of used toilets or doors arrayed outside an unused room (as here), as long as the rooms are clean, quiet, and comfortable. We do hate seeing shoddy workmanship and a lack of interest. We hope this lodge can get it's act together, but it's going...
