Great low cost place to stay at the top of Steven's Pass. This lodge belongs to "The Mountaineers", reservations may be made on their web page. It is a rustic cabin, and there are no rooms, just a lot of bunks. You need to bring your own sleeping bag, pillow. They have community bathrooms (1 for men, 1 for women) and they have 1 shower stall. You are expected to do some small chore each day to help out. They make community meals, but can make some accommodations for dietary needs. Staying there is a community experience (not a place for your honeymoon). The lodge has a place for your cold and wet winter gear as you enter on the floor level. The second floor is where the kitchen is. Meals are served here, games played, movies watched, stories told. There is also fireplace on the second level. The higher floors are where the bunks are. Electrical outlets in the bunk areas are few and far between. If you have a CPAP machine, you will want to get there early and find your bunk. You should take an extension...
Read moreI love staying at Mountaineers lodges! This was my first time visiting Stevens, and it was epic. I brought a handful of scouts to ski for a day and play in the snow for a day, and the Mountaineers Lodge is just such a charming place to stay.
The rooms are shared with 10-15 other people, so you may not get the best sleep, but the lodge hosts serve meals, and everyone staying pitches in to help keep the costs down. It feels a little bit like grown-up summer camp, except that you get to enjoy the company of hardcore athletes and tiny ski bunnies barely big enough to walk.
I appreciate that it's a drug free, smoke free, alcohol free space, especially since I was there with scouts, but I also just really enjoy the ethos of everyone pitching in to create an enjoyable communal experience in a winter wonderland (I'm sure summer is pretty here, too, but it does lack giant icicles).
Thanks for creating and maintaining these spaces, Mountaineers and especially lodge hosts and cooks....
Read moreSelfishly, I don’t want to tell you how unbelievably awesome staying at this place is. But I know that to keep this incredible experience alive, I must. You have to be open to an experience more than a just a stay. It’s not “The Lodge” that makes this place so unbelievable. There’s bathrooms, a shower, a place to rest your head, and great food, breakfast, lunch!, and dinner! It’s the Mountaineers crew that host you, entertain you with their amazing stories and maybe even guide you through Stevens Pass mountain, and cooks that prepare you for an active day and put you to bed with a full belly. The people are the difference! By far this was my son’s and my greatest ski and stay experience yet! Every one of the Mountaineers that staff the Lodge are wonderful beyond words. Adam, Jaimie, Lane, Owen, Garrett, Julia, and Clif, much love! My hope is that they’re all there when we return next winter! Stevens Lodge is AMAZING. ...
