There are fewer and fewer small independent motels that provide a comfortable stay. Sad fact, but there it is. However, a quick web-search implied that the Liberty Motel might be a cut above the pack. We were in town for a family event, so we took a chance and booked two rooms. At check-in, the owner walked us to our rooms and showed us around. The Liberty Motel is an older ma-and-pa place. The building is cement block, and it does not have a great deal of street-appeal - it is neat and clean, but doesn't catch they eye. However, I spoke at some length with the owner, and he has a lot of pride in his place. He and his wife are very friendly and helpful. They have owned it several years now, and have been systematically upgrading. Beds and linens and furniture are new, the bathrooms are redone, and our room was recently painted. There are nice TVs, a DVD player (!), WiFi, remote-control air conditioners (wall units), LED reading lights, and a small fridge and microwave. Fresh coffee is available in the office in the morning. He plans to replace the carpet in the next year, and upgrade the electrical with more outlets as well. Because the carpet is older as of this writing, it has some residual smoke smell, even though it is now a smoke-free facility. They have cleaned thoroughly, but can't get all the smell out. They are masking that with, frankly, too much air freshener. We had to set the air fresheners outside during our stay. When we left, my mom left some things in the fridge. Within an hour, we got a call from them, letting us know and asking what we would like them to do - unusually good service in this day and age. All things considered, we got a clean and comfortable bed for a great price, and I heartily recommend the...
Read morethis motel is very outdated and dirty. there were holes in the drywall in at least a dozen places, the caulk in the bathroom was physically peeling, the curtain rod was broken and wouldn’t close the window all the way. On top of that, i found two dead cockroaches under the bed when i went to plug in my charger. They called me multiple hours before to request the time i would be there in order to turn the heat on and when we got there the room was still freezing and the heat wouldn’t even turn on. I refused to even pee in the room once we walked in, and while the front desk was friendly, i was told my reservation that i set over two weeks ago and had a full confirmation for hadn’t been paid and that they wanted me to re-pay the entire bill in cash (in all fairness, they did not force me to and contacted the agency we used to book), i cannot say anything about the area, as i left due to the uncleanliness in the room in less than an hour. Went to a hotel a little further than i originally intended to, but for peace of mind and safety, it was definitely the right choice. Do not book here unless the cleaning service is overhauled to the point that the cockroaches are at least hidden away and the...
Read moreWe went up to Indiana for a funeral and needed a room to stay in for 1 night. So we found this motel since there wasn't many places to choose from. We get in the room and it looks decent (what you would expect for a motel with only 6 or 7 rooms). The room actually smelled very good but that was because there was air fresheners everywhere! We stayed in room 4 and everything was going good until 2am. I woke up itching like crazy on my hands and arms. So I jump up and run to the bathroom to find myself covered in bedbug bites. I grab my flash light on my phone and flip the lights on and in the bed I find several bedbugs. I immediately kill them. I start panicking, try to get the office people to answer their phone and they wouldn't, I rang their door bell and banged on the office door but still no one. So I took pictures of everything for proof. This is a nasty place and I would never stay there ever again even if I had to sleep in my car!...
