Really a 4.5 but I'm voting it up.
First off, Paige at the front desk is just so wonderful. Super sweet and helpful despite being the only person at the front desk on a nearly full night. She was hustling but with a smile on her face. She also made sure we got a gift bag that had chips, andes mints, and boxed water (yay no plastic!). She also got us hot water at like 11pm so we could have before bed tea! Just top tier service and sweet as honey.
We had a room on the first floor with a patio. Ours faced the parking lot/highway which was kinda a bummer but the room was surprisingly well insulated from the highway and road noise. We stayed with our dogs and room type was great for them. The grounds had lots of places to walk the dogs (that's when I took pictures of the grounds) and dog waste pick up stations on the perimeter of the rooms. The grounds are very pretty and obviously well cared for. The care put into the coastal oaks was wonderful to see. There are a lot of well maintained grass areas and a frisbee golf area. I took the dogs on a second walk after dark and the paths, parking area, and surrounding areas were well lit. The landscaping has a lot of pretty uplighting of the oaks and it's just very serene. I really can't compliment the grounds enough. It's truly lovely. Oh, and the music playing outside is very fitting (mild reggae, traditional and modern Hawaiian, etc). The pool and hot tub area are very nice with one small exception (explained later). We really enjoyed the hot tub and saw numerous families enjoying the pool.
The whole place has a modern take on mid century minimalist style. A beautiful spin on vintage motor lodges. Each room has its own temperature control and mini split unit (nice temperature control and not too loud!), a mini fridge (no freezer), coffee bar (with coffee and hot chocolate pods), ironing board and iron. The bathrooms are very nice, good water pressure, soft towels, and fully stocked shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I'll note that our bathroom was ada compliant and a wheelchair user would only need a shower chair and maybe a non slip mat. Plenty of grab bars. Our room was also quite spacious. Definitely big enough for 3 adult sized people, our luggage, 2 small dogs, and the dog's stuff. If someone was a power chair user, it would definitely be big enough for full turn maneuvers.
Now the "needs improvement but not a deal breaker" stuff: The room key cards were VERY finicky and we had to get 3 sets before they worked properly. We weren't the only ones either. Obviously something was up with the key coder. Though it looks like the pool has been recently renovated, there was missing about a 1'x1' piece plaster in the shallow end. Hopefully it gets fixed. The cable in our room didn't work. We got "a connection error has occured, check your cables and router connection." We discovered this about 1030 at night and despite checking the connections, it was still not working. Not a big deal but for a new place you'd think that would work. The router/cable box was kinda dangling from the TV so that could have been the issue. It looks like it had been mounted with two sided tape originally but at 1030 I was wasnt going to investigate more. In our room, we could hear people talking while leaving the restaurant, coming in and out of the building, and people out on the patios. We could also hear our neighbors talking. I don't know if it was because they were loud or it was an insulation thing because as I said, well insulated from outside road nouse. But there was low level "murmuring" frequently.
Overall we'd definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. Paige in particular was just the sweetest and super knowledgeable about the area. As I said, the grounds are lovely and the rooms are very comfortable. For a place that's only been open 4.5 months, they're...
Read moreMy wife and I wanted a getaway to the central coast and ended up at the Village Inn in Vandenberg Village (in the hills near Lompoc). The entire hotel was renovated and it is spectacular. The restaurant and outdoor grounds are exceptional. We spent hours at the pool with friends and enjoyed the hot tub. There was always beautiful ambient music. ||The staff were eager to please and very helpful.|The cost was reasonable.|The food was excellent and reasonably priced.|The accommodations were excellent. We really enjoyed walking out our back door and strolling over to the pool or restaurant. ||The thing I really enjoyed the most, however, was the beautiful oak trees that surround the hotel grounds. They are each stunning. When people visit California they are told to see the redwoods and sequoias, but the oaks are an absolute treasure. So beautiful. ||While we were in the area we visited Jalama Beach, a county maintained beach in the area. What a treasure. Such a beautiful area. ||If you to be near enough to tourist locations like Solvang, Santa Barbara, Goleta but want to stay in an place where you feel like you are on a retreat, the Village Inn may be the best place on the central coast. ||(PS: I uploaded some pics of the grounds. I would have uploaded more photos of the buildings themselves but I didn't think to take pictures of the buildings when I was visiting. Sorry about that. They are beautiful, fresh and still sparkling from a renovation but they still have the original "vibe" of the 1960-1970 era....
