This section of Pacific Coast Highway (between the 710 freeway and Wilmington Avenue) has a number of motels and for some reason at least half of them have "Travel" or "Eagle" or both in their names. This motel chose to eschew the "Travel" and stay strictly avian in its name. I have stayed here a number of times over the years and have always left feeling glad I stayed. You'd think being right off of PCH and only blocks from a major truck stop gas station that the noise level would be high. But it's quite quiet at night even when crowded, which it often is. This is the rare type of 2-star motel where the manager will help you carry your bags to your room instead of staying barricaded behind a plexiglass window and glaring suspiciously at your ID. Don't misread me, the staff is very watchful and aware of what's going on at all hours (which, to me, is reassuring). The rooms are newly appointed with comfortable beds, working area, microwave, refrigerator and, miraculously a closet area with real coat hangers. Maid service is efficient and quick to notice anything that needs replacing or refilling. While there is a soda and snack machine on the premises, don't hesitate to explore the plethora of fast food spots within a block or two from your motel door. In addition to the obligatory McDonald's, Jack's and Carl's Jr., (which is actually inside the truck stop), there is a decent Mexican restaurant, a Winchells Donuts (with freshly made fruit and veggie smoothies), a respectable steak house and a few blocks farther, a great Italian deli and a Persian spot that delivers. If you come to this part of Long Beach as a tourist, you will need to rent a car, use taxis or walk a few blocks and catch the numerous LB Transit busses that will deliver you to the Queen Mary, the Aquarium, The Pike and other local places of interest. This area of Long Beach is light industrial and residential. While not the most picturesque part of Long Beach it is relatively safe and friendly - much the the way you'll find the staff at...
Read moreI knew already not expect a superior experience at a 2-star motel. That being said there are a few things they could do to make it a more aesthetically pleasing motel. Using bleach to clean their towels, sheets and bathrooms would not only clean but disinfect as well. There were hairs everywhere! On the bedding, floors, bathtub, etc. Using a small vacuum would eliminate that issue, as well as having staff pull their hair back. The room also had an odd smell but our travel Febreeze took care of this. We also wiped down every touchable surface and used a plastic bag over the TV remote. Honestly our stay wasn't horrible, just wished the room was more sanitary. The cotton string mop they use actually causes a build up, they're better off using a steam mop which you can bleach wash and reuse. It's the little things that matter. The getlemen that runs the Eagle Inn was very kind and accommodating. He apologized about our sheets. If you're on a tight budget and don't mind cleaning a little bit then this place is for you. Just don't expect a 5-star...
Read moreThis was my second year in a row staying at this motel, and my friends and I plan on staying again next year. I think they are under new management because the owner this time was very kind and courteous and constantly checking on us whenever he saw us in case we needed anything, and we didn't really see the owner last year. The beds were comfortable, the place is affordable, and I appreciate having air conditioning, a bathroom with a tub and shower, a refrigerator, and microwave. It's not as pristine as some of the popular chain motels, but it was clean enough to me. Only complaints were 1) the wood floors could've used a scrub--our feet got dirty quickly from simply walking around our room--and 2) the water pressure in the shower was weak. These are not dealbreakers for me, however. Also is a great location for having a large variety of...
