Before I begin this review, allow me to share a few of my quirks and the way I choose accommodations. No matter the luxury of the hotel, no bedspreads shall ever touch my body, nor my feet the carpet. I'm weird that way. I frequently check bedbugregistry.com though I think fewer people are submitting reports (or maybe the hotels are figuring out how to fix the issue). So I am a just a little germ-phobic.||||My child is attending Occidental College, and I came out from the East Coast for a visit during Fall Break, so needed an inexpensive place to stay for 3 nights. I had reserved Eagle Rock Motel for my family once before, then cancelled and switched to a place in Pasadena because of odd reviews from other sites. This time, because of a communication with another reviewer, I decided to give it a try.||||The motel is at the edge of neighborhood of mixed homes and schools (off Yosemite). It is next to a fenced dilapidated lot and plant/flower shop. Registration is outside through a window like you're buying cigarettes at a really shady bodega, so that was a little off-putting - but the owners are very pleasant and friendly. ||||Parking is below, all rooms except the handicap accessible are up outdoor stairs (carpeted with new carpet). There are 7 or 8 rooms in a row you access via the upstairs balcony. Rooms are small - and in a nod to its previous incarnation as a no-tell motel, the double rooms all appear to have mirrors on the ceiling above the beds. The king room in which I stayed thankfully did not.||||Here are the pros and cons as I experienced them and why I gave it a Very Good rating:||Pros||Unbelievably clean - I mean, no smell, shined up, vacuumed. Every day they clean like for a new guest. They change the sheets even. ||Quiet - I mean, with the mirrors on the ceilings in nearby rooms, I had to wonder but not a peep through the walls. Even the street is quiet - at 10pm every night a loud motorcycle went by, but nothing after that.||Taco truck out front every night - I didn't try it, but I would have if I had been hungry||The towels though bleached had some other kind of wonderful laundry smell||Refrigerator & microwave - two small bottles of water every day||WiFi & large screen TV with HBO and whatnot||||Cons||The parking - oy the parking. There are two spots that could accommodate SUV size cars & the owner reserves those - from other reviews I see you can ask for those spots. The rest of the spots have poles and it was like an Olympic sport maneuvering my rented Hyundai Sonata into the space. Backing in was the only option. I give myself a 6 out of 10 in the parking event.||The overall appearance of the hotel outside & in does make it look like it's not going to be the best experience - but honestly it was just fine - and at $50+ more per night at places that might be one of those chains recently found to not change sheets between guests, you could do a WHOLE lot worse than the $90-ish per night at Eagle Rock.||The towels are small and scratchy - but smell really good! And you can ask for more.||Not a hotel to hang out in - but hey, you're in SoCal! Get out, enjoy the weather, see the Hollywood sign, find a star!||||Recommended for singles, couples, families with kids who are still willing to...
Read moreIt's a great little motel. It's in a decent suburban neighbourhood so you feel safe. There isn't any convenient stores or anything like that but if you have a car there is quite a few options. The room was interesting to say the least.. mirror for a headboard, mirror on the ceiling and then another one across from the bed under the tv. Other than that the room and bathroom were very clean. The guy who worked there was nice. The tv had lots of channels and the on demand had a lot of free tv shows to watch. My only complaints where that the internet never worked the whole time we were there. I had a data package so I didn't really mind but for people from out of the country or need wifi that would really suck for them. Also the door had a bit of a gap at the bottom so it let in a bit of noise from people walking by. Over all it was a really good experience and if you're looking for a cheap place to stay then I would recommend this...
Read moreA good value for the area. Not easy to find, gotta know where to look, check your GPS. Away from the business area of Eagle Rock. Chain motels on Colorado Blvd are much more money, and book up faster at busy times. Room was good, nothing fancy, but clean. Fridge, microwave, TV, chair, and small desk. Overall a quiet night. Parking very tight, under building. Gotta be careful between the poles, could loose a mirror. Not many guests the night I stayed, so I got to use one of the bigger spots for my midsized Hyundai Sonata rental car to unload my luggage. It still was close getting car in the spot. After driving back to motel from dinner nearby, I took the challenge , and got the car backed into one of the smaller spots. Good thing for back-up cameras in new cars! Good for a one night stay, and close enough to freeways to get to other...
