I recently had a distressing experience at the Wagon Wheel Motel after hitting a bull elk and being towed to town at 1 am. Unfortunately, Cindy, the staff member we encountered, was extremely rude and unsympathetic. While I understand that being woken up in the middle of the night isn't pleasant, a little empathy goes a long way in such situations.

The room itself was nice and comfortable, which was a small relief after such a harrowing night. However, Cindy made it clear that we were 'lucky' she even woke up and had a room available for us. Her attitude was far from hospitable, and she brusquely informed us that we had to be out by 11 am, with no exceptions.

The next morning, I asked Cindy for an accommodation, hoping for some help given our circumstances. Instead, she flatly refused, telling me that she couldn't help and suggested I walk 6-8 blocks to the store to get tweezers to remove shards of glass from my feet.

In stark contrast, the RV camp host, Brian, was incredibly kind and helpful. He was willing to drive us the 136 miles one way, offered coffee, water, and a place to rest if our ride didn't arrive by check-out time. He even offered to take us to breakfast. His generosity and compassion were a welcome relief in an otherwise challenging situation.

Overall, while the room was satisfactory, the poor service from Cindy left a lasting negative impression. Thankfully, Brian's kindness provided a much-needed contrast and some comfort during our stay.

EDITED TO RESPOND: You’re right, we all know exactly what happened that evening. I have a witness to how I was treated outside of my boyfriend, who encouraged me to write my truthful review.

Of course you’re going to collect $100 when had a vacancy and you’ve just been woken up… despite the policy. You did tell us to be out by 11, no exceptions. I was upset and angry that you didn’t have any compassion or empathy towards the situation—you seemed to be harboring feelings from the first encounter. The car accident made us feel happy and grateful to be alive; your attitude made a stressful evening worse and put you in a bad light in our eyes. My car was totaled, and this response further shows you weren’t listening when we said we were on our way home from camping. Thanks for further proving that we will not do business with you as long as you own...

We absolutely loved the cabin we stayed in. It was clean, had everything we needed for the kitchen, and it had a bathroom/shower. There was a view of the mountains from the front porch, and two chairs for us to sit in, which was nice. There is a/c and two fans inside the cabin, so the temperature was comfortable throughout our stay. There is a sign in the bathroom that the hot water tank is small for the cabin, so make your showers quick. We didn't have any issues with that, and our showers were both hot. The check in process was also really easy and the person working at the office was very nice.

There are two TVs in the cabin, but I wouldn't expect to use them because the wifi is pretty terrible. It was so slow, even for our phones to connect to. The TVs really had a hard time connecting to anything, so we weren't able to watch anything at all on them. That was a bit of a disappointment. Also, the bed had a big dip in the middle, so we both found ourselves kind of rolling towards each other during the night 😅

All in all, we would absolutely stay here again. It was a really nice stay in a nice cabin. There are some things to improve up on, but nothing major. We really enjoyed our stay here and honestly will...

We visited last year and it was a wonderful stay We felt so welcomed and everything was so easy going. We like to travel when it's off season pretty much. This trip late May there was absolutely nobody in the RV park yet we were "scolded" for coming 45 minutes early... |So that kind of set the tone.😌 I The young lady may have been new employee. We had no idea that checking was at 2:00 p.m. for RV park so beware. We had no idea where we were going to go for 45 minutes as we arrived at 1:15 p.m. I do believe she begrudgingly checked us in early. Thank goodness because we traveled for nearly 3 hours pulling a 30-ft trailer and I am disabled so we were ready to take a rest. We were happy we had the entire RV park to ourself and got to adventure all the way up to Salmon Idaho. Wagon wheel is a very clean RV park and centrally located to all the wonders and...

I am giving 5 stars simply because it is a small town in the middle of nowhere with very limited options. The room was nice and clean with ample parking. The staff was very friendly. We were traveling with a dog, that only cost an extra $10 and there was a special basket in the room just for the puppy! It had a towel, sheet, treats and a bowl, very nice touch and a great surprise. I typically stay in $300 per night hotels, so for approximately $80 dollars, this was great! We will be staying there again. The pictures of the deer are from directly across the street from the hotel!

Great place to go RV'ing in the summer, you can bring your Side by Sides and quads to take a tour of the old Mackay Mines! In the winter the camps are closed but cabin and motel rentals are open. Be careful though, they get lots of snow in the winter season and are usually booked a year in advance! The staff and locals are friendly here, the small towns got anything you need!
