Read moreI’ll start by saying we will stay here again. The setting is a little slice of heaven. With that being said, there is room for improvement given the level of luxury this hotel wants to aspire to (and that you pay for…). We went with our kids to enjoy the beach. Each day we were there there was some rain in the morning, however it cleared by early afternoon. All the chairs stayed soaking wet (like with puddles in them). There were no towels outside. There were no umbrellas. On the first day, the front desk mentioned they sent their beach attendant home. On the second day, they mentioned since there were cuts, they weren’t asking their beach attendant to come that day given tentative showers. In the evening, we could see that all the towels from the guests that day stayed outside (the next morning, they were still out). The trash was still full from the day before (I saw our trash in there!). In short, if you compare this beach experience to other beach resorts it is very unimpressive (at least if you have cloudy skies - i can’t speak to what happens if forecast is 100% sunny all day). Again, if we weren’t paying over $600 a night, that would be a little more tolerable (and expected). This very much surprised us and was not only disappointing but felt unfair given the price point. When I was checking out and the front desk person asked how our stay was, and I mentioned my surprise at how not maintained the beach was - she just smiled and nodded. What?!
I will say for how underwhelming and inattentive any beach staff was…the valet was amazing (yes..I know…it doesn’t seem like a big deal…but when they are as exceptional as these guys were…it stands out and is memorable. They went above and beyond (especially Dave, I think his name was?) to give recommendations in town, make sure we knew where we were going, be super friendly to the kids, etc. Of all hotel staff, the valet made the hotel feel most welcoming, luxurious...
Read moreWow. What a find this place is! We came here for a few days of total rest and relaxation. Having read some of the other reviews, I decided to give Madison Beach Hotel a try. Upon arrival I knew I'd made a wise decision. The location could not be more perfect - right on the tip of the beach/Long Island Sound, with pristine views of the water. The room overlooks the beach/water and could not be better positioned. It has a magnificent view and lovely balcony. The room itself is spotless, Madison has done an outstanding job as our housekeeper. The bed - I think it might be the most comfortable hotel bed I've EVER slept in. The room is beautifully and tastefully furnished with a lovely bathroom. Electric fireplace also. The beach is small, perfect for the size of this place. Daniel, beach attendant, was super helpful and really attentive all day in positioning our chairs so we stayed in the shade and serving us delicious food and drink. The food at the Wharf is spectacular. We ate there almost every night, not feeling the need to leave this oasis I discovered. Michael worked a miracle and found us a table on the porch, during a very busy evening last night. A true gentleman. Matt made the best martini I have ever had in my life - so if you are here and love a good martini - make sure you have him make it if he's working. We met John, the manager, as we were looking at all the photos of the property from the 1800's on the wall. He came out and answered all our questions and was as pleasant as could be. My significant other said that if he didn't know any better, he'd think he was in Bermuda. All in all, this place is a true gem and we will most certainly be back in the very near future. Thanks to all who work so hard here to create such a peaceful and...
