I should have listened to the reviews! The condo and the grounds were clean. The staff were kind and helpful. Our only major complaint with the condo aside from it being very worn out and dated is the bathrooms are super tiny and they don’t have exhaust fans so anyone taking a hot shower or using the toilet, the steamy/stinky air had nowhere to go except the bedrooms. I didn’t even know it was up to code to have a bathroom without exhaust. The restroom is so cramped, it was almost like being in a porta-potty but with running water. The condo itself was clean but obviously very worn and in desperate need of remodeling. Our unit did have somewhat new flooring but the rest was old and past its life. The pool and spa were nice and the views were amazing. The property photos are pretty accurate but obviously they show the ideal conditions. During the right time of the year, I imagine the beach area would be wonderful and a lot of fun. Unfortunately the time of year we came (August), the winds out of the southeast are driving a relentless parade of rotting seaweed, garbage and debris (sewage?) onto the shore. The property managers are obviously trying to keep it clean. Before and during our stay, they brought tractors onto the beach to try and clean it up, but there is so much of it and every low/high tide cycle brings more so there is no way they can keep it clean. The result is a smell of rotting detritus that is so overpowering that it renders the beach, pool, and lanai virtually unusable. The stink hits you harder than the hot humid air and we were basically sprinting from the condo to the car and back anytime we had to step outside to minimize our time smelling it. We got in the pool a few times - for as long as we could stand the smell and met a few other families there that also could barely stand to be outside for more than a few minutes. It’s worth noting that EVERY beach area facing southeast during the time of our stay had the same problem. It wasn’t unique to this condo area and the property did try to remove the stuff along their beach but the neighboring properties didn’t even attempt to and it was simply overpowering. We went to Sombrero beach which is supposed to be really good family fun but the detritus there was even worse and we only stayed for about 15 minutes. There was definitely raw sewage (probably from the cruise ships moving through the area) blown in with the rotting seaweed - it was truly disgusting. In the 15 minutes we stayed, we saw three other families also arrive, park, get their beach stuff out, and walk to the beach - only to turn right around and leave. I share this to say that we weren’t the only ones and the problem exists all along the shore - wherever the wind is prevailing into. We will never come back to this condo unfortunately for reasons mostly outside of the property’s control. It was just too disappointing and disruptive.

The beach wasn’t very swimmable. Reminded me of the ocean up north, not what I think of when I see water in the keys. The building we were in leaked during the rain. Staff was friendly and attentive when we had any issues. Honestly just didn’t care for the location in Marathon either. Maybe would just stay a night or two (we stayed a week and left early). The view was amazing though, I will give them that (we had an oceanfront property).

The beachfront villa we had the pleasure of renting for a week in Marathon was picture perfect! All the amenities of home, stellar views, great AC (it was SO hot and humid out), the pool and beach really were fantastic. This is a place that served as our home base for exploring the keys and it was so comfortable to come home to and also hang out to ride out a day of rain from the hurricane.

We wanted quiet and on the beach and this place delivered. Our villa had plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 kids. Parking was easy and each car had a tag to display. There were charcoal grills on-site. No need to buy any supplies for the grill they had them right on-site, you just need to buy your food. The villa was clean and while a little dated, it didn’t matter because we had a great time. Each unit is elevated with a washer, dryer, trash and storage located underneath. The main floor has a sitting area, desk if you want to bring some work ( but who needs to work on paradise), a table for 6, the kitchen and access to a huge screened in porch. The porch has a table and chairs, lots of space for your pool floats, rocking chair and a few loungers. We used this space the most heading out every morning to have coffee and ending every night listening to the water. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you would need including dish soap, dishwasher soap, trash bags (if you need more they are by the office), towels and so much more. It’s a little tight for more than two people but the pass through to the porch was convenient. The spiral staircase takes a little getting used to but no issue for us. There is a little table and chairs upstairs and and a living room with seating for 5. The couch pulls out to a bed. One bathroom is located off the living room and the other in one of the bedrooms. The bedrooms were spacious and plenty of drawer and closet space. The laundry baskets in the closet were a nice surprise and convenient to take towels down to the washer. The pool was rarely busy and some days we had to ourself for an hour or two. The beach had chairs in the shade or sun you could sit. They provided a great spot to watch the sun rise or to look at the moon. The hot tub is powerful but a nice treat after a day doing water sports. We can’t say enough about how kind the staff was and how much we enjoyed our stay. My kids are already asking to stay...

When my wife and I started looking for a place last July to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary I stumbled across Coco Plum Beach & Tennis Club thanks to the wonders of the internet. The shape of the units caught my eye and gave me a sense of privacy that my wife and I favor. I read the reviews and really felt like this could be a great place for us to spend a week. We REALLY enjoyed this place! So many reasons why. The resort is small and out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the main drag. The units provide privacy and have plenty of room. We stayed in Palm Court with a partial view of the ocean which was lovely. Let me tell you about the beach! I would argue that the beach at this resort is the best in Marathon. It was pristine with lots of space for all the guests. My wife and I enjoy the beach and this was a really big surprise/addition to our stay. The pool was nice as was the hot tub. There was a mix of families and couples. Coco Plum is quiet and so relaxing. We had a maintenance issue and called the office. Within minutes “Britt” showed up to take care of the problem. What a nice guy! Britt is a Boston native and was so friendly…he also acted as our personal concierge giving us all kinds of good information about the best places to eat around Marathon. Coco Plum has lots of guests with lots of turnover so you will see some wear and tear in the units as anyone would expect…but you can tell they work really hard to keep things nice with the guests in mind. The Coco Plum staff really work hard to make sure their guests enjoy a wonderful stay. If you are on the fence about this place, go for it. I’m so glad we did and we would love to come back...
