My husband and I first stayed at Hotel Walloon in October of 2019. We traveled there less than a month after getting married, and as we both are teachers, the most immediate time off for a honeymoon of sorts that we could muster was the first weekend in October. We were drawn to Hotel Walloon out of a love for the Northern Michigan Hemingway wrote about and neither of us having much experience visiting or traveling that part of the state. We thought we would mostly use the hotel as a sort of "home base" from which we could venture into Petoskey and Harbor Springs, and take our first trip through the Tunnel of Trees and up to Legs Inn, crossing off the area "bucket list," so to speak. While we did all these things, we more so found ourselves immensely enjoying spending time just relaxing in the beautiful Hotel Walloon lobby, utilizing the outdoor spa, walking along the dock or beach, or enjoying an expertly prepared drink, particularly by Chris. At the recommendation of the staff, we also had the three course dinner at Walloon Lake Inn, as well as a meal at Barrel Back. Moreover, we loved the breakfast offerings that we could enjoy each morning before heading out to explore the area, the snacks and hors d'ouevres during the day, and especially the desserts to complement a beverage by the beautiful fireplace at night. I would be remiss if I didn't mention how lovely the bathroom's heated floors were, especially after the time we spent outside admiring the fall colors. The lake and surrounding areas are a splendor in the fall! Although we could see how the history and beauty of the area would be worth the trip any time of year. Overall, everything about our experience was impeccable - the cleanliness, service, friendliness and helpfulness of staff, dining options, and atmosphere. We loved it so much we returned this past fall (2020) and even with Covid restrictions, our experience was nothing short of wonderful. Truly, it is an unparalleled experience, and has quickly become one of my favorite places, and areas, to...
Read moreI can’t give enough praises for Hotel Walloon. Truly my favorite getaway and if I could go back every quarter I would! The cost per night can be pricey, but it is worth every penny because of the amount of care and work they put into making it the best experience possible.
Walking into the hotel it doesn’t feel like a hotel, but like walking into a friend’s house. With the welcome glass of wine, to the warm fire going next to the bar and the coziest of chairs. The little snacks they have all day with amazing coffee and tea selections. And then each and every room is crafted with the most wonderful details that just add to the cozy vibes. Blankets to snuggle, water bottles in the fridge that can be refilled, heated bathroom floors, binoculars to view the lake, even a wireless charger on the night stand so I don’t have to remember my own!
Their turn down service provides the extra touch of joy and comfort, with little touches that make every evening an event to look forward to.
Every time I go there is something new, some little touch that makes the experience better, when I didn’t think it could get better!
I think it all comes down to the staff who I feel like truly love their jobs. They get sparks of joy in their eyes when they make their customers smile and want each and every guest to feel the most comfortable and happy possible. Time before last I asked for oat milk for my coffee, this last time I was there they left a note saying they remembered I prefer oatmilk and prepared some in my room’s fridge so I could have it any time. That little gesture remembering such a small preference meant the world to me.
I cannot recommend Hotel Walloon enough. You will not be disappointed, they make it their goal to make sure you walk away as happy...
Read moreThis was by far one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. All of the staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful, always offering assistance or just a friendly greeting. The four food presentations were greatly appreciated and enjoyed. The pastries offered at breakfast were always delicious (huge muffins, croissants, coffee cake). The appetizers presented were varied and extra special like from a fine dining establishment. The desserts were also excellent ranging from cheesecake to chocolate flourless torte (the best!) , truffles, carrot cake. The staff did a wonderful job replenishing the food all day. The coffee machine was an unexpected bonus. Coffee was delicious but also offered espresso, cappuccino, lattes. The mixologist in the hearth room, Michael, made delicious espresso martinis. |The rooms were very comfortable and there were so many special touches in the room such as notes, chocolates at nighttime turndown. The robes provided in the room were quite thick and warm and were useful for trips down to the outdoor hot tub, especially since it was slightly chilly. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked with every amenity you would need. The lighted mirror in our room did not work properly (flickered) but there were plenty of other light options so it was not necessary. (It was not reported to management until checkout but based on the experience there, I’m sure it will be fixed.). The private porch was nice but wasn’t utilized because of weather. |I have been wanting to stay here for several years and it was well worth the wait. I will definitely...
