Medical Discrimination / Big Brother Night Clerk / Smoking in a Smoking Room
After introducing my fiancée to my mother, my fiancée and myself were traveling from Fargo. On the way, I was sick while driving. We needed to stop early on the way to our planned next stay in Hastings due to my illness and weather conditions on the road. We chose the Super 8 in Melrose because we have previously gladly stayed at many Wyndham properties. We got a smoking room, as we always do.
We checked in and began to watch TV, eat, and prepare for sleep.
Then we heard a tapping at the door.
Initially there was an unidentified person at the door, who was blocking the peephole. This caused some concern, as we have certainly stayed at many hotels where this may be a dangerous situation. My fiancée called out "just a second". I think I may have heard "front desk" at some point, but my fiancée does not recall ever hearing him identify himself. When I was dressed and prepared to address this person coming to our door interrupting our sleep, the clerk claimed there had been complaints because we had been smoking in our smoking room.
We found it unlikely that there had been complaints from other guests given there were a total of three cars in total in the lot when we were present, including our own, and presumably that of the clerk. I would have hoped the clerk would have managed not to place us next door to the only other guests present.
This front desk clerk had not at one moment been the least bit polite or hospitable during check-in or our stay and now dared to interrupt our rest because of supposed complaints about smoke from our smoking room. I question the competence of this individual and note that this location is staining the well-deserved reputation for hospitality which the Wyndham brands otherwise enjoys.
I will also note that I believe there are grounds for medical discrimination claims against this location and individual based on these actions given that Minnesota has legalized cannabis for medical uses and this property's smoking policy as posted on 4/19/2022 is, in its entirety: "Smoking is permitted at this hotel. Please be sure to select your guest room preference."
We were in a smoking room, as he had insisted in demonstrating to me, against my explicit wishes: I had requested to simply check-in and book a room and he refused and showed me the room instead, wasting more of my time when I was feeling extremely unwell and simply wished to be able to lay down.
As a result of his actions, we felt unsafe and unwelcome and did not wish to stay around to see what else this man would choose to do to demonstrate his displeasure with our existence. I do not know why such a man chooses to be in such a position, but I would suggest his personality is better suited to a role in traffic law enforcement or debt collection rather than hospitality which appears to be an unknown word to him.
We attempted to talk to corporate but gave up after their online form refused to accept submission and they bounced us between two different phone representatives who refused to give us an email contact or physical address to address a complaint and claimed to redirect us again but just left us on hold until call time reached 8 minutes and we decided to go enjoy the rest of our day instead of spending more time with this unfriendly place, even in memory.
In total, our time in the room was less than two hours. Goodbye, Super 8 of Melrose. You will...
Read moreSep 2 2025 was driving from Seattle to North Carolina. Stop here to get a couple of hours of sleep. Creepy as hell I enter and was greeting with an Asian lady look like she was sleep. This lady three time tried to manually put my banking information in to take more money out of my account( which she did and I’m still fighting these charges from my bank.) I had to withdraw $80 for my dogs for any issues it would cause. I get to the room to be smacked Roth moms and smoke that trigger my asthma. I went back talked to this scammer of an employee to complain and she verbally said she’ll adjust the price once I check out. I was cool with that. Got up pack my dogs and bags in the car and spoke with her again s out the adjustment and she was like no problem I’ll take care of you. To my surprise once I got to my destination I notice she added more to the price and she did another transaction. I called her right away and told her and she said I’ll take care of it. Three days passed I notice the transactions went through and I called her and told her if she didn’t correct this I’m getting my bank and a lawyer. Nothing happened and those transactions went through. She has done this before because she was very comfortable. I should have walked out after the third time she swiped my card. Stay away from this...
Read moreIf I could pick no stars, I would have. I reserved a room for Christmas eve for my daughter and her family. I was quoted a price of $101 and some odd cents. Daughter and family drove home to WI so our oldest daughter and son in law decided to stay instead. I was hosting Christmas. In the same town. They wanted me to fill out some paperwork and email it back. I don't have a printer. Then they said they were going to kick my daughter out of their room. I could not get out of my garage, I had 3 vehicles in my driveway. My family was in bed. Sleeping. It was 11:30 PM. My daughter said she would pay for the room and they said they wouldn't charge my card. I was extremely frustrated and the F word slipped out. She hung up on me and wouldn't take any more calls from me. To top it off, no breakfast. No ice. The door by their room that went outside wouldn't work with the key. They charged me. Only it was 180. Still don't take my call. I would not suggest, recommend or even hint that we have any kind of motel. 12 miles E or W there are nicer motels. Broken english. Employees that don't know prices. Stay...
