The general area is quite nice - there's a pool, volleyball area, lake to go canoeing or paddle boarding, an ice cream shop... and it's a short 5-10 minute walk to the actual beach. My main problem with Beachwalk is that some of the houses are... well, sub par considering the price you're paying. I've stayed here a few times with friends, usually 5 couples for around 10 guests. We last stayed at Poseidon. I know overall we paid just under $10K - for a week-long stay, that's about $1000 per person or about $142 per night. If you think cost-wise, a hotel for that money would be a pretty nice experience. In our case, the house needs quite a bit of work - many small details that I wouldn't mind if we were paying less than $100 per person per night, but that's not the case here. The showerhead in the smaller guest area - c'mon, it's quite garbage. You can buy a quite decent Delta showerhead for exactly $12 at Home Depot these days with 3 modes. The bathtub wasn't even properly caulked, not that it's my issue (the owners will eventually regret this with water damage seeping into the walls) but c'mon, it looks tacky. So does the hole under the guest kitchen cabinets, or the entirely rusted HVAC vent, or the spackled residue in one of the curtains that they didn't even bother painting over, or the giant cutout hole in the wall where the laundry is that nobody thought of fixing. Moving onto the main house, I'll just point some of the insane things I found: a whisk that was literally rusted with no handle, an absolutely trash drip coffee maker with stains that look from years ago and non-reusable filters that didn't really filter properly so you ended up with an overflowing brewing that let all the grounds into the coffee pot (seriously, buy a new one for $20 on Amazon). Nevermind the fact that the kitchen sink faucet is actually broken in several parts (an $80 purchase on Home Depot that one can install in one hour). The wifi was not great either, especially since they didn't seem to have a repeater in the guest house, so good luck streaming anything from your iPad if you're not in the main house. I'm not saying the house is terrible, but these things are ridiculous and detract from feeling like you're on vacation. Keep in mind I would never complain about these things if the place were cheaper, but considering the small fortune of nearly $10 we paid overall for a week, considering the fact that they made that much money just with us and surely they'd have more people staying after us, these issues become unacceptable, laughable, and unbelievable. For less than $300 many of these things can be fixed, and you don't even need to pay a contractor. I can't say that I'd stay at Beachwalk again, it honestly seems more like a money vacuum that barely takes care of some of the properties. The amenities of the general location are not enough to balance the annoyances of staying at a house that...
Read moreDON'T DO IT.... Sad to say this because the location and the houses are beautiful, great area even though it's in Michigan City. However, they are so unprofessional each year we book a training retreat for our company. I booked months ahead of time and the week of I did not receive any information from them, I called them to make sure everything was ready, and told them we would be checking in late around 10pm. They said that was fine they would have the check-in package at the house when i arrived. when we got to the location the address they had given us was to the main office which was obviously closed, there are so many houses around 30+ in the community i had no idea which one was suppose to be ours, and i had 4 cars following me. I called the emergency line and asked the for address they called me back in about 15 minutes told me the address and we found the house.
House was nice, a few things broken but overall great. However, I had arranged for a 4pm check out, the day of they called at 10am and said if we checked out after noon it would be $100 an hour extra. So we stopped our meetings mid-morning, rushed to pack and clean and left to go to Saint Joseph, Mi and finish there.
These are just a few examples there are 3 other things that happened while we were there, that just proved that they are not a professional, organized or good company to work with. I would not recommend. so many other homes to rent in the area or just north in Michigan.
They ended up adding several small charges over the time we were there, and it was crazy. Very disappointing.
Aslo the $10 resort fee they charge you is for a 10X20 small pool that is crazy since the beach is so close. Not much...
Read moreSTAY AWAY!!! I would leave negative stars if I could. I stayed here and it was great, the house was amazing, however the deposit that you are required to put down in the amount of $500.00 (they say they will refund it within 7-10 business days) is a scam. I have been checked out for 3 weeks now and still cant get my deposit back. I have called multiple times after waiting the 7-10 days and no one there can help me at all. They say its in my account but there is a hold not on their end but my credit card company says no such refund was ever given and they are not holding anything. I have called multiple times, left 7 messages for a manger to call me, and can not even be given the decency to get a call back. I have sent 4 emails to Christy the "manager" and absolutely no response. The customer service is so AWFUL here, the staff is rude, and no one can help you. What is the point of the office if no one can do anything or even email me back. I would never ever stay here again due to this. They have over 500 houses in this area that they manage and this is just absolutely unacceptable and sickening how this is being handled. You are ROBBING people of hard earned money and just basically telling me "oh sorry that sucks I cant help you". Odessa and Christy the so called "managers" are an absolute joke. The ONLY person attempting to help me with the company was Melissa, she is wonderful but unfortunately has no authority to help me resolve this issue. Make Melissa manager stat to save your company. From the last few reviews I have read, I am not the only...
