Sara's Campground is in a perfect location at the entrance to Presque Isle State Park. The park is beautiful and just feet away from Sara's. Sara's Campground is more of a mobile home park than a campground. It spans both sides of the road. The lake side is full of very old trailers/campers that are there year round, but also has a beach where you can pitch your tent. You are not assigned a "site" like a normal campground, it is just space for tents and you are fairly close to your neighbors. Fortunately, we had great neighbors near us. Tent camping cannot be reserved; it is first come, first serve. The bay side also has mainly trailers there for the entire season, but they look newer and are better maintained by their owners. The bay side also has weekly/nightly rental sites for trailers that can be reserved by calling. There are only two "group" tent camp sites on the bay side and they squeeze a lot of people into the sites. I appreciate them trying to accommodate as many tents as possible. ||||The bath house on the bay side was newer, larger, and cleaner than the lake/beach side bath house. The shower stalls on the lake/beach side are a small maze of shower curtains without much privacy or a dry changing area. Most days I chose to walk over to the bay side and use the bath house there. The lake/beach bath house was heavily used by both the beach campers and the trailer campers (older trailers perhaps didn't have functioning bathrooms?). On the bay side, I only saw tent campers in the bath house. It was much less heavily used. Showers are 25 cents for 5-minutes, coin operated. The bay side showers were hot and had good water pressure. The lake/beach side had luke-warm water and poor water pressure.||||The staff were all very friendly. They had coffee and donuts available for purchase in the office in the morning and were always available. ||||Parking was a problem. Many of the trailer owners had family gatherings and would have 4-6 cars per trailer, taking up most of the spots for the tent campers on the beach. The trailer families were often rude to the tent campers and definitely saw us as encroaching on their private trailer park. Any noise complaints were from the trailers having parties, not the tent campers. ||||It is not a luxurious campground, but you can't beat the view! I have camped from Maine to Alaska and lots of places in between. This campground falls in the middle of the scale for what...

First of all, this is for the campground, and I don't understand why there are so many reviews for the restaurant mixed in. They are separate businesses. This place isn't my cup of tea. There is an amusement park literally next to the campground and watching the roller coaster go by is cool at first, but the screaming gets old fast. It must be horrible at the beachside part. The office is on one side of a busy 4-lane road and all the transient RV camping is on the other side. There are signs saying to go ahead and set up in your site if you've reserved (we had) and go to the office after, BUT, then you don't have a map, and there are no signs telling you which way to go for certain site #s like most campgrounds have. It's crowded (the sites themselves are sized decently enough, but the roads are tight, and it's busy). There were a ton of rude people walking right through our campsite, they only stopped when we strategically hung a hammock, moved the picnic table and put out our awning and patio rug. And I'm not talking about them walking through the front of the site, but using it as a shortcut. We shouldn't have to make an obstacle course to have people not walk right past the bedroom window, it's creepy and inconsiderate...and I know the campground isn't fully responsible for the behavior of guests, but their layout is part of the problem, and also I've been places before that have it published in their rules that you shouldn't do that. Should be basic courtesy, but people are rude and ignorant. They say something about no excessive barking, but they don't do anything about it...2 sites down they dog barked at EVERYTHING, very annoying. Also, they state that they have cable, but there's only 1 shopping channel and 2 pay-per-view advertising channels...don't know if that's a temporary problem, but noticed that a lot of people have their antennas out. Also, they don't tell you that the showers cost money! Obnoxious! You pay to stay here, it should include showers, this isn't a truck stop! The internet is quite decent, I do have to give credit for that, and it's so close to the state park, but I don't think that's enough to make me want to come back ever. Oh, I almost forgot, the bayside campground is up against like a steep hill or ridge, blocking cell service (T-Mobile anyway) and their internet blocks wi-fi calling. Get away from the hill and there's excellent signal, it's just at...

My wife and I were looking for a beach side camping experience in an area we have never been before and found Sara's online. The website displayed beautiful pictures of tents along a large beach where people could park their cars right up against the sand within feet from their site. We drove 6 hours to Erie PA to try out what looked like an awesome experience. When we arrived, the beach was tiny and super congested for tent campers. Most of the beach was rocky or made of cement foundation blocks. Not really any sand. What little beach they had was just nasty to be honest. We were also not allowed to keep our car near our tent and had to park it on the other side of the property. Its a shame how deceptive Sara's out of date website is and we probably would not have made the huge trip out to Erie had we known what the place really looked like. To anyone looking to come here i would recommend you skip the beach side camping and just get a hotel and go to the beach at Presque Isle State Park instead. That is an actual beach with sand and space to breathe.

But there were some very nice things about Sara's campground. The staff were very welcoming and understanding with us. They gave us a tour of the property when we arrived and explained everything in great depth. They also had no problem refunding us our last 2/3 nights which we were thankful for. The bathrooms were also very nice for a campground in general. They were very clean with large showers and plenty of hooks to hang things while...

We stayed one night on our way through and would absolutely come back. Staff at check in were incredibly helpful and kind. Looking at other reviews we would agree that the sites are tight, but they are very well laid out so that you have privacy in your space. The location is PERFECT! You can access the beach and all that Presque Isle has to offer in walking distance. What we love the most: concrete level pads, trees that were perfect for the hammock and providing shade, ice cream/diner right there and while other people complained about the 25 cent cost of a shower, this will be the best shower you’ll get at a campground. Huge, clean bathrooms with very powerful hot shower. You get 5 minutes on 25 cents. Really… it’s a deal! Lastly there’s a great Thai restaurant in the same lot as the campground entrance. It was perfect as we got in late and didn’t want to cook. Some things to be aware of if they bother you: it’s very noisy during the day. There’s a busy diner, an amusement park with a rollercoaster you can see from the campground and LOTS of traffic. This all wraps up by sunset though and the whole place is very peaceful in the evenings. On the bayside of the campground there’s only one bathhouse. If you don’t have your own facilities it may be a hike in the middle of the night, but was always clean and never busy. Really a gem of a location. So much to do! Don’t miss the sunset from the beach.
